part of what made Bayo 1 and 2 so fun to play was the focus of the games was almost entirely on gameplay, they would run at a constant 60 fps no matter what which made every combat feel great to play, even if there was some frickery with the camera in bayo 2
bayo 3 can barely run on the nintendo switch, every environment looks like a muddy mess of Nintendo 64 textures and the fps is fluctuating constantly, diving from highs to lows of 12 - 20 fps, it is a huge downgrade from the first two games for this reason alone, hopefully if we can play it on the switch 2 this is stabilized, otherwise i won't be touching it again, this is what went "wrong" with bayo 3

Gameplay and setpieces are fricking garbage, and the trend already started with 2
Bayo 1 is the only good Bayo game, although the Cereza game is quite fun for something set in the same multiverse
Bayo 3 strayed from the mold 1 made for better or worse. 2 just felt like a flashier but less substantive version of 1, 3 is doing a bunch of new things and only about half of them land, but I do think that what DOES land is excellent. 3 has the best weapon lineup (though the limitations of hand/foot equipping does hurt them), 3 has the best rival boss in terms of being fun to fight despite Strider's fights having the least interesting backdrops of the rival fights (though Lumen Sage has SO much going on that you can lose sight of the action in his fights), 3 has some of the best genre shifts in terms of how they actually control. But the scoring and Magic economies are even more borked than 2's, the enemy attack patterns are almost as bad as 2's while having the weakest visual design, the level design is vast and dull because of both Demon Slave and the scrapped open world concept, and the story is one of the worst of any game I've ever played (and no, Luka winning the Cerezabowl is not one of the bad things about it). Viola needs two full games worth of iteration both in terms of gameplay and writing to carry a game on her own, and with Kamiya gone I'm thinking they might not even bother and have Cereza still be front & center.
Origins then comes out and effortlessly translates the appeal of the Bayonetta IP into a different genre and tone with no glaring flaws and the best story in the series, feeling like more of a Clover game than anything Platinum has ever made. It even does the "one character on each analog stick" combat system more elegantly than Astral Chain. It blows past 2 & 3 to be the second-best Bayonetta despite being a spinoff that nobody bought.
It has the best core combat, best enemy design, most coherent aesthetic (even though 2 is prettier and more colorful), and is thus the best overall. 2/3/Origins all have good aspects but 1 is the best still, and having it available on stronger systems than Switch is definitely part of why.
