Ashley is one of the most skilled soldiers in the entire Mass Effect lineup. Her whole thing in 1 is that she's a talented soldier with great potential that gets shafted because of her name. Shepard mentoring her was all it to convince people to fast track her. Also, the game never brings it up, but she's only a slightly worse shot than Garrus and can still out damage him in both games she is in.

I think what would have been best is if she was just a friend and colleague in the first game, as it already happened, but you as Shepard could put forward hints that you like her. She gets embarrassed but never commits to anything. Leaving the door open to a relationship in the second game. This would at least signal to the player the option is there.

Reasons why 2 is the best Mass Effect game (irrefutable)
1: Karpyshin's era was the best in terms of overall writing, but Walters' hackery didn't fully kick in during 2. It was a mix that worked surprisingly well
2: Reapers were set up way too highly with ME1. Sovereign was so damn strong, they were never going to live up to the buildup and expectations for them. Having the villains be the a smaller faction this time was a good choice. It being a "filler episode" isn't valid criticism. 2 expanded on the thing people like the most about ME, its universe.
3: People don't want to admit it, but 1 play very, very poorly. It's painfully slow, the Mako controls like ass, loading screen elevators, etc etc etc. It's just extremely unfun to play. You can hear people saying "oh but rpg elements and shit" but those elements are watered down 7th gen mechanics. massive inventory bloat, useless skills, all of those things don't make for good gameplay. Not to mention that map and world design was just your standard Xbox 360 brown shooter corridors.

Playing it is just tedious, every sidequest is basically in one of the 4 copied rooms, shallow character writing and in general outside of 4 main missions, there are maybe 2 or 3 decent side quests. The one thing it did best is world building, they went into autistic detail, which really helped out in building the trilogy

In a strict archetype way, maybe. But other than a vague conventional/unconventional, I'd say no. Not even close. There is the synergy that both Jack and Miranda are the same coin, just different sides of it. One engineered to be perfect, that turned herself into a weapon, the other made to be the perfect weapon, trying to be a person. You're not going to get two characters that bounce that well off each other in gaming, and almost impossible in female characters. There's really nothing like Jack and Miranda out there, and what we got of that is criminally little. And then Bioware retired the characters. Which is one of the stupidest shit this company has done with this franchise.

I blame the entire development team of ME3.
And Mac Walters in a recent interview about how he didn't like writing for Mass Effect, after doing it once. He just didn't want to do it again for the same franchise. Which means that not only did he not like what he was working on, he didn't even care about the final product, or its future. Which totally explains why he wasn't involved with Andromeda, until everyone else had quit, and he quit again, when Bioware decided to make another Mass Effect, or why no changes to the trilogy were made, for the LE, other than desexualization.
ME:A may have been dogshit, but ME3 is the most harmful thing to happen to the franchise. Until the next game comes out, at least. That's looking like a real shit show.

For me it's always been 1 = 2 >>>> MEA > ME3
There are things in ME3 that I still liked but the design took a nosedive and the writing just felt entirely as if everything went in an unexpected and unimaginative direction to me. Andromeda wins out by having a bit more player-orientedness again and having world-building of its own that DOESN'T ruin anything retroactively. Only normiegays complain about MEA as if it "ruined the series". They're only talking about sales data and hype because the game looked ugly. They think Mass Effect is just about space armors and hot aliens, but for me those things were just there to complement the in-depth worldbuilding and interesting story topics.

End of story. That's why people don't need to see a connection between the trilogy narrative and MEA in the next game, but it looks like Mike Gamble is hell bent on something like it. There's a lot of fundamentals being broken by doing that which MEA did not even touch.

You had the opportunity for a GREAT story hook with the new game that simply acts as a "ME3: The Aftermath" story. A final, fourth game that shows a glimpse of how the galaxy moves on and makes future spinoffs and sequels less contrived. You just had to do certain things like

I'm just not particularly interested in the prospect as playing some other nobodies in the ME universe. Let's just not pretend that any new MC will be good, or that any new crew is going to make anyone forget the trilogy cast, and that we're all just going to accept these new people, that nobody has any connection to, only to have cameos of the surviving cast, Shepard dead, and find about the rest in datapads. That is a straight to DVD failed Disney sequel, not a AAA title that will return Mass Effect to the pantheon of video game franchises. It's a $12 title.

Its remoteness and detachment from the main story line and the Milky Way means that it can safely be ignored. But unfortunately, as stated above. Mike Gamble is dead set in remedying that, and inserting it in the main plotline. So that's just gonna kill the franchise entirely.
