It's funny because back in the 90s I did care about "good" graphics, but now I see it all as a style choice even when it was just the developers making the most of what they had available to them.
I can handle text based games, I can handle gen 2 graphics. It really all comes down to to exposure to the stuff, you deal with it more, you'll handle it better.
Interface is the most important followed by gameplay as no matter how good the gameplay might be, it will get terribly dragged down if the interface/controls are atrocious.
as long as its playable and the visuals serve the game well i dont really care
most text games are unplayable because of the controls, not the graphics
I'm usually a gameplay first guy however for old RPGs, MM3 era graphics (so VGA I assume) is where I draw the line. I just can't get into blobbers that don't have proper graphics.
I don't mind old or simple graphics, but ugly art stylesstyle can be a dealbreaker. The graffics version of Tales of Maj'Eyal for example is so hideous I can't enjoy the game. I can deal with ASCII just fine.
pong
I don't need graphics at all. I was born before the internet so I still have this thing called "imagination".
My thing with text games isn't the lack o graphics, but the lack of easy controls
I also still MUD like an intelligent human being instead of some sort of consumer monkey.
Style > fidelity. Even "bad" graphics can be done well.

Graphics are fine at any point, from text based and beyond. The issue is always the interface and the clarity of gameplay elements
I dislike "realistic" graphics.
Give me anything pre N64 instead
It's more the fact that they're artificially difficult or have no qol features.
As long as it doesn't hurt my eyes its fine, ZX Spectrum games for example have such bright colors that i can't look at them for long.
the zx does have a sickass color palette though
I just can't stand very birght colors, especially the way old PCs displayed them

IWizardry on the Apple II is one of my favorite games, so I have a very low one I guess.
If a game lets me set graphics to high I want to. It doesn't matter when I can't. I don't mind ASCII

i have to understand what I'm looking at without using a 3 mile long spreadsheet
OP pic is fine, dorfort is not
I don't mind graphics actually.
The problem is always the playability / quality of life functions that are now basic.
