Who are those idiots who just play the SAME game their whole life?

My friend is still playing binding of isaac and has over 3,000 hours on it. This guy has been playing it since launch. Why would someone do this instead of play new games? Is it autism?

It is autism and some autists get aggressive when confronted, see
It is indeed not normal to play a game like Isaac for over 3,000 hours.

    >Why would someone do this instead of play new games? Is it autism?

Some people are afraid of trying new things. They get comfortable in one game and that's their comfort zone. It's hard for some people to break out of their comfort zone.

They'll regret it when they get older and realize they wasted all their time in one game instead of experiencing many games. Then they don't have time for new games...

Not in so many words, but yes I've heard the sentiment expressed many times from end-of-life patients. Often phrased more like 'I wish I spent more time relaxing/less time working'. Of course that's mostly referring to not building meaningful relationships with family, but also (particularly for older men) resentment and dissatisfaction for being an unappreciated workhorse their entire adult lives.

the XIV thing is ridiculous. MMOs do often get those high times from afk and whatnot but there does come a point where theres nothing left and you fall into the trap of sitting around hoping something will happen until you log out to sleep

video games are for fun, if you enjoy them it's all fine. it doesn't matter if you play one game for 3k hours or 10 games each 300 hours. it's all useless waste of time for relaxing/fun.
people who get mad over someone else enjoying something should just have sex.

I 100% disagree, everytime I try to bring this concept up someone replies with "fun things are fun!" There are singleplayer games I've played once as a kid that still stick with me and inspire me or make me emotional to this day. When someone has 5,000 hours of Dota 2 it's all just dead air, it's .01 fun factor over the baseline and they just keep playing in the hopes they get fed in their lane and go on a rampage. They don't remember a single game from that 5,000 hours.
Who do you think is a more well rounded, developed individual? Someone who has read 1 book for 10,000 hours or hundreds?

The most time I ever put into a single playthrough of a single game was 160 hours in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-reckoning with the DLC, and that playtime covered me doing everything in the game completionist style. So, yeah, I agree that putting multiple hundreds of hours into a single game, let alone thousands, is just sad and pathetic. But that's just my point of view and I mostly think people should just play whatever they want.
