I find it helpful to go to sleep. In silence I just start thinking about everything and anything. My mind can't settle down. With a voice talking in the background it calms my mind.

I have intense ADHD brain so having background noise while playing mindless shit or games without any real story makes it easier to focus. I don't watch these multi hour video essays though. nobodies opinion on anything warrants that much fucking time spent listening to it.
I mean it's the same with how people listened to radio. I'm at work and in the background I'm listening podcasts or this kind of stuff.
Similarly when I'm playing a game like recently Kingdoms of Amalur I might listen to something in the background or when I'm on a long drive.

I have no issue with super long stuff like this existing but its never done in a way that makes it easy to come back to, the chapters are there only to split up each talking point and not to split the video up into bite sized chunks that you could watch bit by bit.
this one has chapters in the description but each one stands mostly on its own with a few exceptions

I watch Tehsnakerers videos quite regularly, and they tend to be well over 1 hour, yes. And I do focus on them, watching them in chunks rather than in one go.
I also sometimes let some video-related channels as a background noise. But it's often stuff like GGG's starcraft streams, or videos I've already watched in the past.
I like people like Snakerer and can justify the time investment because the guy has some pretty interesting insights into games and genres I would not be otherwise interested in, and that just expands my understanding of the media.
