why are game developers so scared of deviating from the standard humanoid body plan for playable races?

why are game developers so scared of deviating from the standard humanoid body plan for playable races?
are they just adverse to designing armor/clothing that isn't one size fits all?

I can't relate to something that's not human. When I see a creature in game, it's just another reminder that it's not me.

Of course they are. Could you imagine having to make outfits that work with every different race? People already complain about lack of wardrobe options with just human players.

They're right. General populace is interested in men and women, not creatures. There's a reason why movies still focus on humans despite the tech being there for something more.

literally the opposite, they can only relate to things with big expressive faces
its why they love thomas the tank engine and sonic characters so much

That's exactly it. Star Wars Galaxies had this exact issue for Wookies and the other goofy hammerhead species. Basically you could equip gear for stats, but it was just invisible.

Different model, different armor/clothing models, different animations - it's a lot of work, and most devs are too lazy to pursue that kind of thing.

You weirdos are all the same. You can't be satisfied with an elf or something like that, you need all your games to have a race selection like this:
    >Human
    >Sharkgirl
    >Jumping cactus
    >Marionette
    >Fire elemental
    >Giant intelligent friendly talking spider

Humans are the greatest race ever bestowed upon the cosmos by the Divine.
It's only natural that developers would desire for any playable race to be made in their image.

Morrowind is the one and only game in the entirety of the Elder Scrolls franchise, including all of its spinoffs, in which argonians and khajiit have digitigrade legs. Morrowind is the outlier that changed it for no good reason.

80% of players when given a character creator make a white human male warrior. If women were ever to game at the levels men do then that statistic would reach 90% including white female cleric.

Game developers often stick to humanoid body plans for playable races due to practical reasons, including animation compatibility, gameplay balance, and resource limitations. Designing varied body types may complicate armor and clothing systems, requiring additional development time and resources. However, some games do embrace diversity, offering unique character customization options.

Listen, I can't believe you're still doubting this. That passage wasn't conjured up by some AI; it came straight from a human mind, mine! I poured my heart and soul into crafting those words, drawing from my own experiences and knowledge. So, if you're still clinging to the idea that it was generated by some machine, maybe it's time to reassess your skepticism. Trust me, there's nothing artificial about it.
