did It? I just bought mine, got the cheap 64gb one and a 512 sd card, maybe I'll use for playing on the sun on my balcony a bit, also need something portable for when I need to go to the hospital to take care of my old parents,
was split between a deck and a laptop
>did It?
yes
how?
Doesn't the 64gb model have slow flash based storage? have you noticed long load time on games? what have you been playing? i want to get one but im leaning on the 256 model with faster storage
>have you noticed long load time on games? what have you been playing?
no idea, bought it last saturday, is on the way, with a 64gb ssd games are going to the 512sd card anyway
I've been also thinking about using it with steam link
I have a 256gb one + 256 sd card. I use the internal storage for steam games and the sd for emulation roms
It's 2 lanes instead of 4 but not really noticeable on APU hardware, you can always replace it and probably should due to shader cache eating up space.
The key is to buy thd 64GB model and then throw at least 1TB in it for less than what valve charges for a 512GB deck.
I got the 64GB and upgraded it's NVMe to a 1TB for the price of a 256GB. But you need to pry it open, I had a kit with tools that make it easier to pry open without damaging it.
Got a 1TB SD card as well for storing ROMs.
You sucked it off too hard and it came prematurely. All your hype and excitement gave Valve the idea they could put out an inferior product (to the Switch ofc) and still think it would sell, but then ya know, you jobless gays didn't have money for it anyways. LMAO.
How is it inferior to switch?
What a stupid ass question.
It didn't though. They're already already working on the Deck 2 due to its success.
>Valve's promises
>Ever
L0L
Valves promises are a lot more reliable than russias promises.
As in valve actually keeps to their shit.
Only thing you do'nt get is hl3 but rest they've fulfilled.
Honestly I think deck 2 is planned to solve de problems the first one design has
Cool.
I'll sell my deck for 500 bucks and buy the new one for 600 when it drops.
Yeah, this is what I will do as well. Funny really - because I bought the 64GB model and upgraded the SSD myself, I might even end up getting all my money back.
I should add though - I disagree with that anon's claim that a Steam Deck 2 will come any time soon, because the biggest flaw with the machine by far is battery life and there have been no major advances in power storage.
Yea but there wont be a deck 3
Deck 2: Episode 1
too expensive
Watch this obvious bait thread reach bump limit because steamies are insecure
not very subtle are you, falseflagger-kun
You're supposed to reply to me once this thread reaches page 10.
You mean tendies right? Its them making these pathetic threads each day coz their scared their children's toy might be dethroned
>hes still trying to force the Steam vs Switch consolewar a year after
Dedication man
You mean because they took control of this thread and are using it for genuine discussion about the Steam Deck. You DO still remember how to discuss things genuinely, right anon?
>flop
Another seething Switch drone ITT.
To me, not the OP you massive retard.
FUCK THE SWITCH!
Hi again,
I understand your motivation for going through all of the RMAs and I'm not suggestion you're doing it for other reasons. I am suggesting that your expectations on some of these units being defective may be misaligned from the tolerances that are acceptable on the unit.
A refund with the amount of playtime and when you originally purchased your units is very much outside our refund policy, but I don't want you to feel like you are stuck with something you're not happy with. The option for a refund in your situation is an exception based on all the conversations we've had. Trying to do right by you, who's so far not been satisfied with the product.
So if you would like to proceed with a refund, then we can do that. I'll hand you off to one of my colleagues to start that process.
What do I do? I wanted to buy another one to guarantee it's brand new but at this point I feel utterly defeated
I've been RMAing this thing for a year
List the number of RMAs you've made and the defects they had. We need to judge whether it's you just being a gigantic autist or not. The anime image suggests autism.
1- rattling fan (likely bad bearing)
2- rattling fan but worse (morons who "fixed" it are worthless and probably left a wire loose or something
3 (replaced with second deck)- one of the trackpads was extremely mushy and oversensitive to clicks causing missinputs and had horrible haptics
also one of the joysticks grinded into the housing and one of the triggers was mushy, but I could've lived with these
4- for whatever reason they replaced BOTH trackpads and then when it came back the left one made this plastic clicking sound it isn't supposed to and didn't before, again the morons who "fixed" it just fucked it up
5 (replaced with third deck)- both the trackpads are oversensitive to clicks and cause missinputs, worse on the right trackpad
clearly whoever they contract to do the repairs (united radio) is a bunch of moron apes and don't give a fuck about putting the thing back together right, and I'm 90% sure any replacement units they send for RMAs are just previously RMA'd scraps which would explain why I kept getting dogshit units
>4- for whatever reason they replaced BOTH trackpads and then when it came back the left one made this plastic clicking sound it isn't supposed to and didn't before, again the morons who "fixed" it just fucked it up
Without seeing actual evidence it's difficult to judge, but this sounds like a really minor issue which probably would've gone away with use anyway. It's a bit hard to believe that you've now had three sets of trackpads on 2 seperate consoles and they were all defective.
Yeah this bro sounds autismo as fuck and support probably hates him by now
my first deck's trackpads were fine
the second only the right one was fucked up, and then only the left one was fucked after they "fixed" it but functionally they were the same as my first deck's after that
both of them are fucked up on my third deck
clearly there is a severe lack of quality control for these fucking things
also the plastic clicking was only on one side of the pad, like I said they fucked something up putting it back together and I doubt it would've gotten better, if anything it was probably causing damage
I don't give a fuck about the feelings of a billion dollar company and the pajeets who can't even type a support ticket without typos and broken English
I paid money for a product and I expect it to fucking work
Kek the 'tism rage is hilarious. I worked as support once and the only people who wrote raging messages in your style were amerilards. Are you one?
https://streamable.com/2v23x6
here was what the clicking was like
turn the volume up because the camera didn't pick it up very well
Honestly anon, that is a far lesser problem than the other one you said you'd tolerate (analog stick grinding against housing and mushy trigger). The left trackpad is barely used anyway, and when it is, you basically never use it for clicking. I can almost guarantee this problem would have gone away over time as whatever components are rubbing together got eroded. I would have stuck with that one. This is the kind of thing I'd notice and go "huh" and then never think about it again.
surely you can understand how infuriating it is to send something in to be "fixed" only for it to come back with a new problem it didn't have before, especially multiple times at that point
I didn't feel like it was acceptable for me to have to accept that or try to fix it myself considering what I had paid and gone through already
in hindsight I probably would have stuck with it out of what I've gotten so far but there's no way for me to know that they'll just keep fucking up and sending me things with problems, I mean surely the QA can't be that bad right?
>I mean surely the QA can't be that bad right?
Valve QA honestly based on your posts sound like literal saints for even bothering to reply to gigantic autismal gays like yourself. Imagine having a job where some retarded gay keeps pestering you over and over about imaginary issues and still having enough self-control to actually not tell him to fuck off.
>you are autistic if you expect a working product
>a working product
You have yet to provide a single thing that shows you actually got a product that doesn't work.
Trackpad making a slightly different sound than what you expect (which you can't even prove, since it sounds like exactly like mine in that clip you posted, and that's definitely not an issue worth even mentioning, let alone RMAing the device) doesn't mean your device doesn't work, and any sane tech support would already tell you to fuck off, just like every time you post your made up issues here you get replies telling you're an autistic sperg, but don't worry, it's them and not you, you're perfect.
I already outlined the various issues I had
are you saying your trackpad makes shitty clicking noises independent of the haptics like that too?
>I already outlined the various issues I had
Every single one of those issues boils down to "device was making sounds I wasn't expecting it to make", not "device wasn't working". And when it comes to sounds in your head, I'll stick to the Occam's razor principle that says it's far more likely that you're a mentally ill spastic that already hears various noises and intrusive thoughts and don't take your meds than the slim chance that somehow you're literally the only person in the world out of more than a million that had to RMA a device 5 times and still didn't get a "working device", and you being mentally ill is just a random coincidence and has nothing to do with it.
>the fan is SUPPOSED to rattle
>the trackpads are SUPPOSED to have horribly mismatched haptics and missinput clicks just by using them normally
fucking have a nice day
Read my post again autismo, a mentally ill fucktard saying something "rattles" is about as credible as a street corner preacher saying judgement day is tomorrow at noon.
The only piece of "evidence" you managed to produce just further proves these noises are coming from your head.
>have a nice day
I don't have any reason to, I'm not the one off my meds and hearing imaginary noises in my head. Survival rate for your kind is even lower than chuds, so I expect we will stop seeing your posts very soon, probably about the time your 8th or 9th RMA fails.
https://streamable.com/s3bama
YES THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL
AND THIS IS AFTER THEY """""FIXED""""" IT
FUCK OFF

Jesus fuck, you're retarded.
I'd say I'm sorry but I'm not.
Have you considered euthanasia?
bro… that’s like the most nothingburger problem ever
literally nothing
wow
I fail to see an issue that warrants an RMA.
turn up the volume retards
turn up the med dose schizo
The fan is definitely off, my fan when it ramps up doesn’t sound like that, nevertheless just get used to it.
Tekken 7, those buttons on the deck aren’t that good lol.
I think it’s mid, also don’t listen to YouTubers it’s hard to open up, it’s very easy to strip the screws. Just get the 256gb model.
I’ll probably sell this thing and the acessories when there are updated windows clamshell handhelds.
For anything other than gaming it’s just an expensive brick.
> It's extremely easy to open anon. Getting the other version is almost like paying a laziness tax.
Lol lies, it’s incredibly easy to strip the screws I bought a 512gb ssd just for the deck and tried to open it, I ended up stripping the 4 screws I’m the middle.
do you experience this level of ocd with your other devices?
tbh i feel like if your madness is this strong the only way to fix it is to learn how to to do repairs on your own so at least you’re not always left guessing about some underpaid pajeet’s handiwork
I experience that level of OCD with everything in my life
I have no faith in myself to repair something this expensive
>one of the joysticks grinded into the housing and one of the triggers was mushy
got my deck RMA'd because i fucked up a repair and both decks had the same problem, probably a manufacturing issue.
if you got it RMA'd just once you probably got the same one back
or do you know it was a different one
i wasn't paying attention but i doubt it's the same one. i messed up one of the screw holes, the back cover and one of the trackpads but it looked completely new when i got it. i haven't opened it up to confirm though, can't be bothered.
there's still a trackpad issue where it registers a click twice in desktop mode if the left trackpad is set to soft press but it doesn't happen in game mode so i think it's software related.
Anon...you know you can change the sensitivity on it right??
i know, i didn't have the double click issue until i opened my old steam deck one night. i've messed around with all the settings but it always double clicks.
i checked the calibration settings and the trackpad seems fine though.
i just have it set to regular press now.
decided to remove the scroll wheel from the trackpad and that fixed it. an update probably broke it.
when i got my deck the only issue was a slight creak on the right trigger which went away in about a day (common thing apparently). no clue how you got this many issues lol
>any replacement units they send for RMAs are just previously RMA'd scraps
Given that the steam deck happened over the whole pandemic thing, it's also possible that supply chain bullshit is behind these kinds of issues. Some parts don't stay in manufacturing for all that long because of how fast smartphone models move and whatnot, so a delay in design/prototype/whatever cycle can make it so some part isn't available when you'd need it. Then you'll have to pay double for an untested hack replacement or start cancelling orders and declare your toy EOL.
the product just might be what you're lookin for, you have the option to refund or you can keep it, but you cannot rma it anymore, are those problems a dealbreak for you? does the switch on its current status worth the price?
seems support is great, I'm always worried when buying outside amazon
>the product just might be what you're lookin for
sry for the brainfart,
the product might not be what you're looking for
You sound like a fag, fag. No one is this unlucky
>rma'd product so many times that custom service is politely telling you that the "problems" you're rmaing over are inconsequential
basically guarantee the problem is you
Anon I honestly feel bad for you. I dont think all your RMA's were worth it but I'm sure it is frustrating anyway. Take the refund, buy a new one if you want. If it needs "fixing" just give up and accept it. At least valve support is helpful and lets you keep doing it. How long did you have it each time before sending it back? Did you even get to properly try it out yet?
my first deck's fan rattle was only intermittent, so I didn't even notice it for a while and managed to actually have fun with it playing games
even when I did notice it it took me a long time to finally give in and accept I had to RMA it
after that when I got it back and it was even worse somehow I lost all faith in the rma process and got really detached from the thing and barely have used it since because why waste all my time reconfiguring it from scratch when it's still fucked up and I'm just gonna get rid of it again
I'm just wondering if it's even worth the trouble anymore and if I should just finally invest in a proper PC instead, but I know the answer to the is I'm not willing to and I'm just gonna buy another one
I just need to have one that I know for sure is brand new in my hands and not just a recycled RMA replacement to clear my conscience, if there's something wrong with that one then I don't know what I'm gonna do
>if there's something wrong with that one then I don't know what I'm gonna do
A nice relaxing walk or nap on the train tracks will do you wonders
Autist.
Are you the OCD guy from earlier threads?
Please take meds instead of wasting wagies' time with your delusions.
>please think of the billion dollar company
no
Have you tried getting an RMA on your meds, they're clearly not working and should be replaced.
Another anime poster is a total retard. Big surprise.
since ive seen you bitch since at least novemeber its Very safe to say you are simply an obnoxious gay that should have been with the umbilical cord. still, better late than never.
You've posted the reasons why you've RMA'd before and honestly you seem like a nit picky bitch
skill issue
I don't think it did but it 'is' extremely expensive and I say that as a first worldy.
>400 eur
>Extremely expensive
I have doubts regarding your "first world" claim
It's over $1000 in Middle Earth
Send Legolas my regards
Not my problem thirdie
I'm from Mordor and I've bought 512 for myself and 64 for my orc best friend.
It had something like 60$ of overhead when it comes to shipping.
No idea what your problem is.
No gaems.
But seriously: Deck was not marketed to console users as an alternative. No. It was marketed to PC owners, and they have no intention of playing PC games on a portable device.
pc gamers don't go outside and don't need to bring their games on the go
Anyone know if investing in one of these is a good idea for now? In Australia, you can't buy them directly from their store. I have to go to 3rd party sellers. Which is fine, as long as I'm not going to be fucked over by an offical release that has a better battery or something.
They may release a revision soon, but it's unlikely.
They probably won't release a new deck for several years, but do plan to eventually, is what it sounds like so far from what's been said. They want to let the deck sit and be developed around as a standard for a while before pushing out a new one is what it sounds like.
it'll be the steam controller 2 and then index 2 before deck 2 is announced
Good bitch riding that big cock
why dick flop
Obviously inferior to the nintendo switch. You can't compete with actual magic.
>Tendie cope thread #547
It didn't flop
What are you all playing on your decks?
The original OoT Master Quest with retro achievements.

Why? It's not Nintendo who killed Vita.
no 'ick
People found out that you can get better products for cheaper. Good riddence
like?
Standard computer + Steam Link
Valve is so retarded that they released something that's better than their device for free.
>Steam Link
Steam link is good and I still use it but the Deck and Link serve different purposes so not sure what you're going on about.
>Standard computer + Steam Link
>Free
Mind linking me where I can get one of these standard computers for free, together with a free phone or tablet?
Also a router that breaks the laws of physics and data transmission and makes streaming not be a shitty meme would also be nice, so if you got recommendations I would appreciate it.
>Standard computer + Steam Link
Portable?
This kills the deck shill
>Steam Decks weights
Absolute bullshit, i was actually surprised how light it felt
Don't care. Emulating switch games and you can't stop me.
>not getting a cracked switch and playing games natively
>use """emulation""" instead
terminal steam brain rot
Can you showcase Heroes3 on Switch?
I have 512 + 1 Tb SD card. Around 100 is free on internal and around 600 on a SD card, if I remember corretly.
Feels about right.
>Windows
it's not windows you stupid retarded chud gay
>it's been 8 hours and no one called you on it
holy fuck nuGanker is filled with gays
Games and emulators run miles better on game mode. You shouldn't be playing on desktop mode
>deck defense force arrives
You're late
Just stating facts
My fact is this
It's a magical webm that highlights just how much of a sham the shit deck is. Barely able to run games from a handheld with a shitty tenga processor and where one of the biggest claims to fame are the emulation of games that phones were capable of running over a decade ago.
Deck trannies have no defense against this. They can only cope, seethe, and dilate when this shown, and it brings a smile to my face every time.
Keep steamin' steamie.
okay but i don't want to play games made for children
>games not made for children

The same 4 videos from Nintendo cucks. The one your showing everyone knows isnt installed properly. Running shit without pre-installed shaders bro
is the 256 version's screen better than the 512's?
Switch OLED's is better than both
Can you showcase Heroes3 on Switch OLED?
It sold really well
The Steam Deck is technically legal, but ethically an anti-MS pirate device. It harvests Microsoft's extensive investments in WINDOWS gaming and steals that value for Steam users. At a time when MS has recently been trying so hard to play nice with everyone, including Valve by putting MS Studio games on Steam, this is a product based on Gabe's personal spite against MS. I hope MS removes its games from Steam and adopts a war footing. Whether they do or not, Valve is treating this as a war and is on the offensive.
You don't need to bait, we already have one of our members set up to bump this thread anytime it reaches page 10.
The thing is, it's not really convenient to pirate.
Had I been younger and poorer - not that I'm rich, but I have some disposable income - I probably would've considered it.
As it stands - meh. It's easier to just buy.
Not enough ‘ick on ‘eck threads
>boot up steam deck
>Mew?
i literally bought one this morning
steam controller was an actual flop but boy it's the best fucking controller out there bar none. Only thing it's missing is a rechargeable battery.
Should I get the 256 or 512 version?
I already have an SD card
There is no such thing as too much internal storage.
but is it worth the extra money?
how do the screens compare?
About the same. 512 one looks slightly less glossy.
>how do the screens compare?
a 20$ screen protector can do the same thing so it really comes out to internal storage and if you're willing to open up the deck and replace the ssd yourself
depends, do you give a fuck about autismo AAA games garbage like yet another ubisoft copy paste shit?
Then yes, the games for idiots need tons of storage.
If you play actually good games you're fine with 256 and an sd card, while keeping games with longer loads on NVME and rest on sd.
Its to big to be considered a comfortable handheld for doing handheld stuff.
Its more like a budget laptop
It's 3 times the size of a game gear, which makes it too big for children to use.
99% of PC games aren't meant to be portable, and the 1% that are have a better mobile version already out.
>boot up deck
>get overcome by the urge to put 'ick on it
>???
Most people bashing steamdeck never touched one. I suggest you try one.
we wuz deck owners n shiet
For a couple hundred dollars more you can get a laptop with a discrete GPU that's going to be exponentially more powerful
a laptop and a handheld are not the same thing
Yes a laptop does about 1000x more include playing videogames at higher res and frame rate
Why get a laptop when you get spend the same amount of money but get a more powerful desktop?
Clearly for the portability factor. Not everyone lives with mama and dada
you can just pick it up and move to another place no problem.
It's as portable compared to a laptop as laptop is compared to a deck
Lmfao what level of cope is this. How do you bring a desktop pc on a plane or train? Even in a hotel you'll look like a total sperg bringing external monitors.
if you're concerned with looking like a total sperg then why would you ever reccomend a cheap garbage laptop with its horrendous fan whine to be whipped out on a train or a plane along with a full list of gaming peripherals like a mouse?
>How do you bring a desktop pc on a plane or train
Pretty damn easy
https://a.co/d/3MHTjC9
Takes about as much space as the average gaming laptop with it's gigantic power brick and all other peripherals you need to carry with it anyway.
>include playing videogames at higher res and frame rate
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Legion-5-15-G6-AMD-Review-Affordable-gaming-laptop-with-a-lot-of-power.559368.0.html
>The performance is stable under sustained workloads (in all performance modes), but the GPU is heavily throttled on battery power
>Our Witcher 3 long-term test shows that the fps numbers are lower, but the behavior is identical. The performance is significantly lower on battery power (Witcher 3 Ultra only 22 fps)
>only 22 fps
>starting at $949 with Ryzen 5 5600H, GeForce RTX 3050 and 1080p 120 Hz display. A configuration similar to our review unit is available for ~$1800
>1800$
>22 fps in Witcher 3
>meanwhile Deck that costs 400$ can run it at 50-60 fps
Imagine buying a "portable" device for almost 2000$ that literally can't hit 30 fps in 8 year old games
Very cute
Just look up rtx 3060 on slick deals I bet you can find a laptop going for 750 right now and with an i5 processor.
Why would I buy a gaming laptop that's getting 22 fps in 8 year old games?
The fundamental problem with laptops is ergonomics, not performance
Stop pushing for laptops. You never owned a deck.
>For a couple hundred dollars more you can get a laptop with a discrete GPU that's going to be exponentially more powerful
You mean a laptop that consumes 10x more power, struggles to hit even 30 fps in any games when not plugged in, and has less than 1 hour battery life, all while not being a handheld, and requiring additional controllers to be used for gaming?
>Uses more power
Are you third world?
>portability meme with a handheld with 1hr battery life
Hit pause, move your fatass including the power supply, hit resume
>requires additional controllers
You mean the ones you already have?
I get you're still coping over overpaying for that IPS shitter (even a vita has a better screen lol) but next time try to come back with reasonable arguments
>portability meme with a handheld with 1hr battery life
Opinion discarded. Not a real thing.
Awwww sorry I hurt your fee fees. Go play gta 4 and tell me how long that session lasted you.
>Hurt fee fees
?
All I said was you said something that wasn't true
>Go play gta 4 and tell me how long that session lasted you.
Go play GTA4 on your gaming laptop that's not plugged in and tell me if you're getting double digit frame rates
*plugs it in*
Whoa problem solved
Also heres a rtx 3070 laptop for 1k that runs better then your shitty pc

Thanks for confirming laptops suck at what deck doesn't.
Bro your desktop isn't even as good as that laptop lmao
nice try retard, I do ue5 and 3d graphics primarily and can put any upgrade under work expense and get it 20% cheaper.
As I did with my deck.
>*plugs it in*
>Whoa problem solved
That's not portable then you retard.
I already have a desktop that is plugged in all the time.
A portable device with one hour battery life is not portable lol
>one hour battery
nta, but well, it depends, really.
I would say it realistically ranges from 1.5 hours to something like 6, depending on a game and settings.
>A portable device with one hour battery life is not portable lol
Which is exactly why recommending gaming laptops as portable devices, which average around 60-90 minute battery life while struggling to hit 30 fps in 8 year old games makes no sense. I'm glad you finally come to your senses
honestly doesn't fucking matter unless you for some reason want to play while camping.
USB chargers cost nothing and it has an usb port, and unless you support russia, your country has enough power sockets available on every bus, tram, trolley, train and boat so you will never be away from power.
Even then just a battery bank is a simple enough thing to do and you should already have one to deal with your awful power grid.
>unless you support russia
I mean
>https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-Pulse-GL66-review-Is-the-i9-12900H-improving-the-RTX-3060-gaming-laptop-or-only-making-it-more-expensive.614668.0.html

>heavily reduced CPU performance in battery mode
>dark display with weak response times
>In battery operation, the Extreme Performance mode isn't available anymore and it changes to Balanced mode. In Cinebench, the performance drops by a whole 45% and only reaches 1388 points!
>In battery operation, the frame rate drops from 75 fps to a fairly constant 30 fps in "The Witcher 3." In addition, the cooling system only gets activated very late.
Woah dude that laptop is a steal can't wait to play Witcher 3 at stable 30 fps!
for a couple of hundred dollars more you can get a gaming desktop pc that's going to be exponentially more powerful
It’s not even 100 dollars in the uk, it’s like £10 difference for a laptop with a discrete gpu.
should I get a deck or a PC?
deck is unironically better value for money.
even the most expensive one?
I can't decide which version I would want, the glossy screen honestly seems like it looks better but it's impossible to tell on video
what exactly qualify as heavier programs, or "using Linux?"
Im not sure why I phrased it like that. What I meant was if you dont need windows programs the most. You can get them to run or use windows on it though so it really depends what you are doing or how comfortable you are using linux vs windows. It is a nice device and can be used as a full computer just fine. Great price to performance. The glossy screen is kind of a preference thing but I've heard it makes it slightly more dull. Here is the best comparison I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jApCGIFS1JI
It makes more sense to get the 64gb one and upgrade the storage I think.
The new phrase you decided to latch onto isnt working anon. Try another new one!
I just didn't want to bother opening the thing or finding a quality SSD that wasn't chinkshit
I'd rather have more storage but I don't know if the screen on the 512gb version is actually worse or not, and if the extra money it costs hurts the whole value of it
>I'd rather have more storage but I don't know if the screen on the 512gb version is actually worse or not
I looked at my 512 and friend's 64 side-by-side.
The difference in negligible.
If you can use Linux and dont need heavier programs deck is good. It really depends on your needs.
windows support is now good as well.
Too many losers who don't leave their house
I can't believe I lived to see the pc """master race""" saying "700p 40fps is all you need, actually" because valve put out a tablet
Fuck off tendie
>yes you need 8k on a 7 inch display to ensure the latest fucking full pc hardware can manage to barely run it at 12fps on low settings while looking considerably worse than 720p at 90fps on ultra
it's been proven constantly and scientifically that people can't tell resolutions apart after 1440p on a 22" screen and post 90fps refresh rate on modern normie made-for-retards-no-skill-ceiling games is only nice initially until you get used to it. then it makes no difference.
>Another Zoomer LARPing as MUH FPS NUMBER PC gamer
Look up at how many frames and at what resolutions games like Doom, Diablo, Starcraft and many other PC classics were hardcoded to run at, it might shock you zoomie
what exactly is your point here? That games that released well over 20 years ago for hardware of that era were programed in a way that keeps them stable on said hardware?
My point is that claiming PC gaming was about MUH FRAMES and MUH RESOLUTION in the past is a blatant fake made up fantasy by zoomers
>My point is that claiming PC gaming was about MUH FRAMES and MUH RESOLUTION in the past is a blatant fake made up fantasy by zoomers
you're absolutely delusional if you think the state of pc gaming in 1998 has anything to do with the state of it today. Are we just going to pretend that the last 15 years hasn't seen a massive wave of retarded graphicsfags spouting "muh pc master race" bullshit while pcgaming as a whole continued to decline into its current state
>state of it today
Who is talking about the state of today you double moron?
I'm not the one that wrote this
>I can't believe I lived to see the pc """master race""" saying "700p 40fps is all you need, actually"
This clearly implies that PC gaming was all about frame rates and resolutions, and now you lived to see the day where it's not, which is like I said - nothing but a zoomer fantasy made up by gays whose first PC game was Oblivion.
When Starcraft came out, we didn't cry how it was a 2D game running at 24fps, releases in the era where companies like id software were already out with advanced 3D engines and games like Quake 2, we played it because it was a good game. I don't even remember a single review in any game magazines from that period complaining that a game made in 1998 is running at less frames than most SNES and Genesis games made over 5 years ago. That's what PC gaming was about, quality of games, not MUH FRAMES.
nobody, and I mean not a single fucking person used the phrase "pc master race" in the 90s. The whole "master race" shit began in the late 00s and was predominantly driven by graphics and performancefags shitposting about how they could play ports of xbox360 games at a higher resolution with a more stable framerate.
So yea that anon who said
>I can't believe I lived to see the pc """master race""" saying "700p 40fps is all you need, actually"
is absolutely correct. When anyone says "pc master race" they are referring the people who popularized pc gaming among normalfags, turned it into a performance arms race, and incentivized devs to stop making games that are uniquely made for pc in favor of consoleizing pc games and porting console games.
The era of pc gaming you're referring to was never part of the whole mustard race normalfag movement.
Why lie about the screen resolution?
>umm uh 800p is still small
So why lie about the screen resolution?
This is the problem with steamies deckies who would make countless mental gymnastics cope to ensure their branded device is a gaming powerhouse device not the master race and yes its cuz only cuz their fav brand corporate/company valve made a device otherwise it wouldn't even be praised eg
replies all bashing on it even if its better than deck and
claiming ps vita layout is bad and making fake ass complaints
I only bought steam deck to replace general purpose computing device which was the best budget compared to other laptops
Reminder if valve did it Ganker would praise it but if other competitors better or even competed against Gankeralve Ganker would unironically seethe and make countless copetastics shit like steamwork
?
Ever considered that valve shill marketers might have made these threads like the other console marketers here
This should've been the price from the start for mid and highest tier models and
based on this sale after a year new version should be 6 - 12 months away
>not having your bases covered by being an idort
Do you even vidya?
Wonder why it flipped the picture that way.
I already have a PC and a Switch, and a Deck is coming in next week.
I honestly have no idea what I'm gonna keep the Switch for. Pay $60 to play first-party games for 2 weeks before they're playable in Yuzu?
Yeah I only use my switch for nintendo exclusives, now. Anything else the switch does my deck can do better. Being able to mod games and take those on the road is really fucking nice, too. I gotta have Legends for Battle Brothers.
I hope you're not thinking yuzu on the deck is a switch replacement, otherwise you'll be disappointed It's great for some games, but most of the library you're making some compromises with emulation
Just have both and use both when appropriate. I don't know why everything has to be a fucking, us vs them competition with you people
>you people
Why does the steam deck make people so upset?
cause they need to defend the company that makes games exclusively for little children
Its the first mainstream GNU/Linux device since the Nokia N900 back in 2009. Unlike the N900, Microsoft can't put their guy in the driver seat of Valve and run the company into the ground in return for 5 billion, so they're employing all the astroturfing against it that they can.
There's also a ton of Windows fanboys who have never used anything else, and get scared of the prospect of anything being different even though SteamOS is super easy to use and developers are starting to target it meaning game compatibility is only going to keep getting better.
If it were a flop then you wouldn't still be making daily "it's a flop" threads over a year after release.
Why does the deck cause so much seethe? I'd think it was console war bullshit, but it's not really competing with anything. It's a niche device.
It's a mystery.
Seriously, I have nothing.
My best guess is that it just attracted a number of very dedicated trolls for some reason.
>pisses off mostly one autistic tendie (OP) because you can play nintendo games on it
>pisses off microsoft pajeet shills because it runs on linux
>pisses off chink marketers because it makes their overpriced handheld PCs are irrelevant
>pisses off snoygros because all their games are going to PC and sony won't make handhelds again after the vita bombed
1. Forced meme comparisons to Nintendo Switch were taken seriously by some Nintendo fans who therefore seethe.
2. It's proof of the growing viability of Linux as a gaming OS, so the losers who seethe about Linux gaming naturally seethe about Steam Deck as well.
3. Shills for Chinese handheld PCs seethe about the fact that they can't shill their garbage effectively without presenting it as an alternative to Steam Deck, because no one gave a shit about this niche market until Valve entered it and people won't click a handheld PC thread unless it's about Steam Deck.
Because it's objectively better than the switch to the point it can play all of its games for free and all the major releases that the switch isn't getting. Everything about laptops or why don't you just use your desktop or buy some chinese device is to deflect from it pissing off the biggest group of fanboys on this board.

>why did it flop
>valve has confirmed a successor model for future since the first one was such a success
glad to see y'all have brainz
It's outclassed
I like how the design on this turd is so retarded they can't even take promo pics to cover it up.
> Drop device
> Screen falls off
I fucking hate control layouts like this. You can't rest your thumb in the the two bottom left buttons without the right stick getting in the way. Same issue with switch joy cons. It's awkward and uncomfortable as fuck. There's a reason standard controllers have a diagonal offset between the upper and lower controls
The deck is one of the very few dual stick handhelds that doesn't have this problem
show yourself playing games on that tiny ass keyboard
>update bricks all your non-steam games
gettin sick of this shit.
anyway, very comfy handheld, I've enjoyed it very much so far.
Never had this problem. How does it "brick" them?
It takes like 5 min and is super easy to do
>Never had this problem. How does it "brick" them
it just breaks them so they never run from steam userface, always have to go back to desktop, delete them and reinstall them manually.
I wouldn't mind once or twice a year but valve put out so many updates I've had to do it 3 / 4 times now over two months for my shadercache remover and openmw launcher.
do you mean you have to fully reinstall them or just add them to steam again?
as in they stop working and crash upon launch, full manual reinstallation to work again
dunno, I'm not super experienced with linux distro's so maybe ?
I would say try using lutris to add them to steam and see how it goes next update
That is strange. I use Lutris so maybe it doesn't have that problem?
The fuck are you doing?
I just use emudeck and haven't had this issue at all and I update whenever its available
there are many other non-steam "games" than emudeck you zoom zoom spaz
yeah, I'll have to try it out, thanks anon
You mean your sad porn games featuring futas and dommy mommy incest shit that you bought from itch.io?
No one gives a fuck
then stop replying to my posts you smelly moron
Dont push your blacked fetish on me
subconsciously thinking about BBC's again anon ?
never talk to me or my posts ever again.
I installed a few non-Steam games when I first got a Steam Deck last summer, and they never broke.
You're probably doing something weird. No I won't spend an hour trying to guess what it is.
updates breaking stuff is hardly rare on linux.
Didn't happen to me though.
I can confirm, I even have a few old games that I installed through exes I got off abandonware sites (so not Steam, GOG or any other similar games), and I went to check and they still run fine. Also a few GOG games I manually installed and modded run fine (mods included).
How are you getting abandonware stuff to run? I've alot of old win98 games I'd like to play like the old segapc games and some other shit
I'm but him but he's probably just using Proton. Yes, there are games that are too old to work with Wine or Proton, but the term "abandonware" doesn't imply games from any particular era. There's Proton (Wine) for 32-bit Windows games, DOSBox for DOS games, and frankly I don't know that you would use for the stuff in between.
From what I understand win95/98 requires me to use dosbox but it's such a hassle because its requiring me to fake a hdd, fake a partition, fake a windows 98 install, fake installing vodoo drivers etc.
*not him
fuck
Yeah that would be the in-between category of which I'm completely ignorant.
>How are you getting abandonware stuff to run?
Wine or Proton in combination with forcing Wine or Proton to override native dlls with user made ddraw wrappers, dgVoodoo2 tools and any similar compatibility layers
(depending on what Dx Version and render games natively used)
https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw/releases
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/
It is for AppImages and Flatpaks which is what you should be using on the Deck.
what can I say ?
I follow standard protocol and linux enjoys breaking regardless and I'm to lazy to fix it properly, thats all, you'll come to learn this the more you use it and encounter it yourself.
I've been using GNU/Linux based OSes for over 20 years, I've never encountered the kind of routine breakage you're describing.
What did you do? Turn off immutable mode and install things with pacman? That's hardly standard for SteamOS.
SteamOS 3 is built with Arch, but its not Arch for updates. If you put it into Arch mode, then you have to treat it like Arch and ignore SteamOS updates.
what is the actual motivation behind buying a deck? what the actual fuck is the point if you have a pc???
you can sit on the sofa or lie in your bed, play a game for 20 / mins and resume it on your pc later.
you can take it with you if you need to travel and stay anywhere for a night or two.
it's a nice supplement to just having a pc and also a pretty good budget linux "desktop" if you plan to use it full time.
I used to dunk on basedtendo's for "muh portability" but ever since having one I finally understand the appeal.
>I used to dunk on basedtendo's for "muh portability"
yeah thats kinda where i still am regarding it. i just legit dont get the appeal of a portable gaming device as an adult at all.
you'd just have to try it, I didn't understand either but having one now I'd imagine i'd struggle going back to just having a pc, its very convenient and comfy, it's not a replacement its just an accessory item.
It's a handheld PC
i literally bought one since I travel at times and visit my parents place which is boring as fuck. I also don't play some games on pc cause I don't want to spend more time sitting where I work.
It will also serve as a more portable laptop for doing some work related stuff.
'ick on 'eck
how do I get rid of the YOU CAN HAVE UNCLAIMED REWARDS notification?
this shit will not go away
It profoundly misunderstood its target audience. The type of neckbeard who cares about PC games doesn't really need a portable console because he never goes outside.
I think theres going to be deck 2 simply because valve can afford it, their store is doing just fine. It'd be weird to waste all the hardware rnd effort that went into deck 1 in addition to the decade of working on software side of things
90% of the work that went into deck 2 has been completed already.
Steam deck is the console I want.
>Easy to replace parts, even the battery is way easier than a cell phone
>Easy to customize the software to my liking, I can prioritize graphics or battery life and mod games
>Well supported with quality buttons and sticks unlike the zillion chinese handhelds
I'm using it as a console and living room pc replacement. It's pretty great, even with strategy games if you use the magnifier feature.
i haven't used my actual consoles in months lmao. i think the deck simply appeals to my innate laziness. haven't tried any strategy games yet though
hard to tell if it's legit autism or simply inept chang marketers being paid to generate FUD
>Constantly sold out
>Flop
Sounds like a success to me
Is there a reason for the sudden rise in deck bait threads? I decided to buy one on a whim last week, then suddenly a a dozen “STEAM DECK LE BAD” threads start popping up, when usually it barely got 1 thread a week. Why the sudden spike in interest?
Comfy deck threads keep dying so shills have to resort to making these threads
If you wanted a comfy deck thread, you’d make it on Ganker
Spring
cause its' sufficiently popular for retarded autists to think they will get laid by being contrarian about it.
Valve just repudiated the previous Microsoft astroturf line that another Deck was coming soon with better hardware and Windows pre-installed.
So now they're doing another anti-deck disinformation blitz.
They've been a pretty constant stream ever since the deck came out and there was an uptick them as it became readily available. You're probably only hyper aware of it right now because you decided to get one.
nothing else being released on the switch until the next zelda game so the resident autist tendie has more time for shitposting
we have an autist that hates the Deck and makes the same posts for a year now
Why did the PSP flop?
because people were buying the console and not the games. Obviously piracy was rampant but even among people who didn't jailbreak their psp the attach rate was abysmal.
When the psp came out mp3 players with the ability to do video playback were expensive with the 1st video compatible ipod coming out around the same time as the psp and costing $300-$400 depending on storage. As a result dropping costs of the memory stick pro meant the psp was more viable as a portable media player that can also play games as opposed to a console that can function as a media player.
tl;dr selling units isn't enough you have to be able to sell games too
Can I play Way of the Samurai 4 on the switch? Can I play Ace Combat 0 on the bus? Can I play Rengoku Stairway to HEAVEN on a couch then get up and go play on the bed uninterrupted?
The Steam Deck can do all of that. I don’t understand how people can’t get how handy that is, it’s literally god tier. It used to be that I had to switch between between consoles when I’m in bed but now I have it all on one device and I can move that device around with only the cord to worry about. What are you guys missing here?
>What are you guys missing here?
The ability to think for themselves. The people shitposting understand all that, they almost all are guaranteed to to have a switch after all, but the deck isn't made by their holy chosen corporation. It doesn't matter how much better it is, it must be snuffed out precisely because they know it's the better system.
how do I get over my insecurities about building a PC
build a pc
watch youtube videos about how to do it and ask people you know about it. its not as bad as it seems you might just encounter a problem or two depending on what you are specifically doing. make sure you consult this website while choosing and building your parts
https://pcpartpicker.com
I suppose peoples biggest fear is they press the on button and nothing happens and they dont have the means to troubleshoot shit.
If psu, mobo, ssd, cpu, ram is broken its hard to determine it.
Unironically by building a PC
Watch videos and build it. Trust me after you do you will be like "that wasn't as bad as I thought"
STEAM DECK IS 10% OFF THIS WEEK
which one should I get?
256GB is the best choice. 64GB is ok, especially if you find a cheap SSD elsewhere and are competent to do the upgrade yourself.
why 256 over the 512?
256 has plenty of storage if you add a 1TB SD card and an anti glare screen protector is also cheap. Best value version tbh
But I got the 512 myself
I already bought a 512 gig SD card because it was mega cheap a while ago
I'm just a hoarder by nature and I don't know if 256 will be enough for me to be comfortable
I'm more wondering how the screens compare, I've seen some people say the 256 screen is actually better
Also a bit of a hoarder myself, got 512+256 and space is running low. Granted, I got 73 games installed on the damn thing. Might grab a 1TB SD card and stick the 256GB in my phone.
Screen quality is slightly worse with anti glare under ideal conditions, but with daylight the anti glare one is nicer to look at.
worse in what way exactly?
I never even use the touchscreen on the thing because I heard the etched glass is more delicate and I also can't stand how fingerprints look on it
Colors are a little muted and contrast is slightly worse. Not too noticeable.
Touchscreen is fine to use, fingerprint come off easily.
Get 64 and upgrade it yourself
Holy shit it actually did flop lmao.
Now only $10 more than the switch pled with same amount of storage. Sounds pretty based to me.
I BOUGHT ONE LESS THAN A WEEK AGO FOR FULL PRICE ARE YOU SHITTING MEEEEEEE!!!!!!?!?!?!
> 10%
Even if you bought 512, you didn't lose much.
same
it hurts
They are clearing stock before the new model comes out. I'm not falling for your tricks, Valve.
Fuck, I almost want to pick up another as a dedicated Windows/emu machine
>literally boxed my deck up to send back for the refund this morning
>was going to buy another one after the refund posted
>now they're fucking on sale for a single week
what do I do
do I just buy another one now and hope I don't get screwed out of the refund somehow? I could save a decent amount of money through this ridiculous coincidence
it makes me uncomfortable to not wait for the refund first but I feel like I can't pass this up
cant you just stop`?
what? why are you returning it to just buy another one if you didn't know about the surprise sale
I'm the anon who did a million RMAs
they said they would just refund me
I wanted to just buy a new one so I could be certain it was brand new and then really know if I was actually crazy or just getting recycled RMA units with problems
If youre a grown man carrying around portable gaming devices and playing them in plain sight of the public you no longer have to wonder why you cant get laid.
>buy deck
>play vampire survivor
>buy $700 pc
>play vampire survivor
Its fun anon
interesting how well cdpr games still do despite million Ganker posts shitting on them
Steam deck is having a sale for its birthday
It did?
nogwarts?
very nice
You retards bought it to play illegally downloaded Switch games, only to find out it runs sub 10 fps with the most stable build.
Why are you still trying so hard to force a Steamie vs Tendie fight? Its not going to happen.
I'm not starting anything except shiting on you shitskins that shit on the Switch but post screenshots of your Nintendo games on your deck.
You've been at this for a year man. The console war you want isn't happening.
The only issue I had with my Deck is that when taking off the back plate, one of the screws was over-torqued and I ended up stripping it trying to upgrade the SDD.
Beyond that, it's been tits. Speaking of, I need to finish up Ryza 1 so I can move on to 2.
I feel like the real strength of the Steam Deck is it got me to to play a lot of my backlog I otherwise wouldn't. There's lots of games I probably won't sit down to play on my PC that I absolutely will just knock out playing on the couch before going to bed. I've beaten like ten games since getting the thing.
Same here. Playing old handheld games I never had is great. Played meroid zero mission and fusion right when I got it and loved them.
it only flopped because op was too poor to buy one. so it boiled down to skill issue in the end.
someone tell me whether to buy the 256 or 512
I don't want to have to open it myself or find a non chink SSD to replace it
You can get a 1TB Western Digital drive for 125~ bux.
$399 + $125 is $524.
It's extremely easy to open anon. Getting the other version is almost like paying a laziness tax.
>laziness tax
time is money
I'm also terrified of opening the thing myself, I would have a fucking heart attack if I fucked it up somehow
what do you think of the 512's screen?
also this is a really stupid question, but if I'm using the thing in desktop mode which the better default download location, the SSD or the SD card? I don't want to wear out the storage unnecessarily and don't know where would be better to write stuff by default
>what do you think of the 512's screen?
I think its fine, don't really have any complaints. I am impressed most by the night mode allowing play in low-light conditions without eye strain, but it also works nicely in brightly lit locations.
>if I'm using the thing in desktop mode which the better default download location, the SSD or the SD card?
I mostly put stuff on the SD card, unless its something I know I'm going to be keeping around long term and playing a lot.
Seriously doubt you'd have any kind of storage problems with 256 or 512 plus an SD card.
I mean like, if I downloaded an anime ep or something would it be better for the health of the device to have it save to the SD card or internal storage by default?
You shouldn't have to worry about an anime episode hurting the health of either.
I just mean in terms of general wear on the storage by having the default location for bigger downloads being one or the other
If you're worried about it, just put your media on the SD Card. I've got my media on there and haven't had issues.
Keep in mind that the SD Card gets formatted by the Steam Deck as the standard Ext4 format, which Windows being non-standard can't read by default. So if you're running Windows its not really any easier to put media on the Deck itself or the SD Card since you'll want to copy things up wirelessly.
I was just worried that if I set the SD card as the default location for everything that would wear it out faster, like if I torrented a show to watch or something
if I have an external hard drive I connect to the deck through a dock and I put files on that using the deck, there won't be any of that fuckery with windows will there?
External drives can be whatever format you want, so that is also a good way to move files over, or access them from the Deck.
If you're super worried about wear and tear from pretty undemanding media use external drive may be a good way to go especially if you're only going to use Kodi on the Deck when its hooked up to a TV.
I have an external drive I just bought to use as cold backup, I'm just worrying about this because of what I've read about flash storage wearing out with use and since I would be using the deck for browsing too I'm worried about randomly downloading images and videos and stuff to the SSD by default would be bad for it's long term health
By the time you'd run out of write cycles for any of these drives, much better drives would be available cheap.
Just back up anything you don't want to lose, and keep in mind the SD card is easier to replace than the internal drive.
>what do you think of the 512's screen?
Have you used matte displays before? I personally hate matte displays, and the 512gb models screen is just that. It's dull and fuzzy compared to a standard glass display. Some people like them for having less glare, but if you're not commonly playing outside or something then it's just a grosser looking screen for no real benefit. I avoided matte displays like the plague if I can help it
Note that either way the screen is one of the weaker aspects of the deck. It's just bad in general, regardless of model
is it really that much worse? I mainly wanted the higher end one for the storage since I don't want to deal with doing it myself
I mean, everyone's amount of care is going to be different. I'm a bit of a snob with screens so it probably bothers me more than others. But yeah, fuck matte displays, don't like them at all
It adds a layer of grain which may or may not bother you. As for swapping in a larger SSD, if an absolute retard such as myself can do it in ten minutes including installing SteamOS I have complete faith in your abilities, fren.
I don't have any faith in myself
also I might just be stupid but I don't trust buying SSDs off eBay
The Decky plugin for vibrant colors helps some, but yeah it's definitely not the greatest screen.
I feel you. I personally sort of like opening consoles up and making modifications and such. Also the Deck is the most end user friendly thing ever.
But as other anons have said, a 256 with a big ol SD card will probably suit your needs if you really want as little fuss as theoretically possible.
Also Switch emulation is solid fyi. There's a current issue with Ryunix at least where you can't play full screen without it just blacking out on you, but windowed is fine.
I'm just dreading the idea of getting the 256 and then feeling like I need more storage later on
if I wanted to swap out the SSD I would just get the cheapest one, the 256 seems like a bad choice if I really don't want to open it later but I'm worried about running out of storage in the future
people say the switch has a pathetic amount of memory but they forget switch games are fucking tiny compared to anything on PC and you also have cartridges
Deck supports hot-swapping SD cards if you're really worried about having enough storage.
756GB or 1.2TB is a lot of space when you just have games.
I have a 512 SD card already so it's just a matter of whether I want to spend an extra $100 to double the SSD storage
>Also the Deck is the most end user friendly thing ever.
I wouldn’t say that, it’s easier to upgrade the storage on a surface tablet than on this and they both use the same ssd.
Its up to you. I went with the 512GB version before we knew how easy it would be to upgrade, but also added a big SD card and haven't really filled up either one.
256GB plus an SD card is probably the best option if you're lazy.
256 is not enough. either buy the 64gb model and open it up to put a big ass 2tb ssd on it, or buy the larger model
I'm happy the steam deck flopped
Nintendo will always make the best handhelds
SIRS DO NOT REDEEM THE STEAM DECK
BLOODY BASTERD DO NOT FUCKING REDEEM
Prove him wrong. As far as i can tell, the deck is just a small laptop with no keyboard.
I leave my house
> a small laptop with no keyboard
Can you film yourself playing while standing?
Say, DMC4. It works perfectly well with a keyboard, I'm still better with it than with a gamepad.
Where do I find the shaders menu on retroarch?
Is it worth?
dock makes it better, otherwise its great.
Install emudeck
yeah it's fun
install emudeck as soon as you get it. I don't know why I waited like 7 months to do it. It's fucking great. Also I'm living the dream of playing Sekiro while taking a shit in the bath
a severe lack of 'ick
Which OOT pc build is best for deck?
Ship of Harkinian worked for me when I was trying Linux
https://github.com/HarbourMasters/Shipwright
Anyone who would know it exists can already play any of the games it can play without it.
The total lack of advertising push couldn't have helped. Literally the only thing I know about it is that an obese exhibitionist owns one.
>Flop
They are not even manufacturing enough
in total I spent $771.95 on the deck (512, official dock, 512 micro SD)
would I have been better off getting a PC instead?
Yes, I spent over £150 trying to install an ssd on this thing + acessories like a case and an sd card, sorta regret it.
I feel as if some of the shilling with this device is too much considering the flaws.
There’s flaws but the positives heavily outweigh the negatives, even learning how to navigate Linux wasn’t that hard, took me a week of trying to figure out how to mod Fallout 4 and MGSV and I succeeded without any issues.
> There’s flaws but the positives heavily outweigh the negatives
For you, for me no, makes this thing end up being sort of like a brick. Overseas ok but I wouldn’t recommend especially for the price, wait till like version 4 or something.
> Overseas
Overall
> any weird Linux stuff?
The desktop mode is a buggy piece of crap that is prone to crashing, it crashed 2 the first day. Also some issues like kde wallet pop ups everywhere. Using it as a pc is crappy, when I connect my drawing tablet (do pen mini7) to the deck the deck Wi-Fi gets screwed up and I have to restart the device.
> I only bought steam deck to replace general purpose computing device which was the best budget compared to other laptops
Can’t really do that properly at all, I partially bought it because of that but I ended up being disappointed, a lot more disappointed than I thought I would be.
Xp pen mini 7. The thing just likes to disconnect from my home Wi-Fi whenever I try to use it. There is no real fix for it either lol.
how do you mod on the deck/Linux exactly?
Same as windows really. I modded kof15 same way on deck/pc and did the same with other modded games
do you mean just drag and drop files?
>Desktop Mode
>open Steam
>browse local files
>do mods like you would do in Windows
Dunno about Nexus mod manager or however it's called these days.
Yeah, what the other anons said, it’s pretty much the same. If you want to work with mod managers like Ryu Mod Manager or MO2, you’re gonna have to use compatibility layers like Steam tinker launch or wine. In windows terms you’re basically just running an app to run another app.
It’s a case by case kinda thing, you might have to add a line in the command prompt for Judgment, you might not need it for MGSV and so on.
A desktop is not portable
A laptop is portable. And for £10+ you can get a way better device than the 512gb deck.
>A laptop is portable
It's really not... as someone who bought a gaming laptop
>have to be plugged in to use the discrete GPU
>keyboard gets hot as shit
>have to use windows and go to steam big picture mode
>pair a bluetooth controller or play plugged in
>can't take it with you to the toilet
>can't really play in bed well or on the couch or lying down in general
> It's really not... as someone who bought a gaming laptop
It is, one of my friends uses his gaming laptop at university.
>have to use windows and go to steam big picture mode
Windows>memeos imo especially the desktop mode. Kde really isn’t built for touch devices.
>can't really play in bed well or on the couch or lying down in general
The steam deck isn’t comfortable in bed, I’ve tried and my back just gets sore to the brim. I think it’s just due to the weight or something.
> I modded kof15 same way on deck
I have kof15 too, cool game, I Mai bought it because it’s a pretty new fighting game and it’s was quite cheap and on sale.
Mainly
>I think it’s just due to the weight or something.
bro there are books that weigh more than the Deck and people are fine reading in bed
>being an ableist shithead making fun of peoples disabilities
People with muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis are real people too you literal nazi!
>A laptop is portable
>replying to obvious laptopfag bait posts
Pretty much everyone who ever owned a gaming laptop for more than a few weeks would never claim they're portable compared to even the biggest and heaviest handhelds, I don't see how people still manage to get hooked and reply to these pajeet shitposts.
>can't run forspoken
>can't run returnal
why buy an obsolete console?
Love mine.
>Emulates PS2, GameCube, Wii, PS3, 360(windows), and WiiU flawlessly
>Emulates Switch pretty well
>Plays a ton of PC native games well
>Battery life is solid once you limit the wattage, which hardly affects performance unless you're playing triple A games made in the last 2-3 years
WHY IS THE DOCK NOT ON SALE YOU FUCKING Black GABE GOD DAMMIT
We know for a fact, thanks to that KDE dev, that Steam Deck had ~1 million sales at October/November and that was around the same time when Steam Deck became available without reservations. How many sales did it have since then?
We know the production pace, given it hit 1 million at the end of September it should be around 2 million now.
Is it wise to transfer about 200-300gb of PS2 games (that’s already inside the SSD) to an SD card? Is there a chance it fucking explodes?
how is piracy on the deck? easy? any weird Linux stuff?
id imagine it's as simple as adding the pirated game to steam so you can run it under proton.
is there any way to configure it so you get steam's vulkan caches, even for non-steam games?
>how is piracy on the deck? easy? any weird Linux stuff?
Most annoying part with Steam Deck piracy are repacks. Due to their arcane compression algorithms, some of which only work on Windows, it's really hit or miss with them. I had more success with Dodi repacks, fitgirl repacks fail with me one way or another (e.g stuck installations, corrupted files etc). However when the installation is done, there are third party apps (e.g Lutris/Bottles+BoilR) that automatically add your games to game mode as long as you set it up correctly. It's kinda finicky but if you're used to playing around with game files it's not that bad.
>is there any way to configure it so you get steam's vulkan caches, even for non-steam games?
No idea but FWIW there's an upcoming update to the Linux graphics driver that will supposedly do away with shader caches in games that run with DX11.
why bother with 3rd party apps when you can just right click to add anything to steam?
Because some of those things won't work unless you have 3rd party apps
BoilR automatically downloads and adds artwork for each game in Lutris/Bottles/any launcher' library and it works pretty well even with pirated games. Lutris/Bottles are useful to properly manage some games with snowflake requirements and/or easily change version of wine/proton launcher etc.
Alright does anyone know how to get cheat engine to work with cemu games though? I wanted to edit my rupees but I can't find cemu games in my cheat engine process list.
how do you even get cheat engine itself to work on Linux?
You get a portable version of cheat engine, extract it to a folder on the desktop
You use Steam Tinker Launch and go to a games properties to have it launch with STL, you then go to the menu and click "game menu" then you use "Custom Command" find the cheat engine.exe and use "Fork Custom Command" now cheat engine will open with that game
Still enjoying mine, every day
should i buy a deck ? I got an hacked switch already but it's getting old
Yes, you don't even have to hack a Deck just install whatever you want on it
> should i buy a deck ?
Wait till gen 2/3.
>waitfags
Depends on what games you play
Most of what I play runs equivalently on both platforms, but ends up looking better on the switch OLED's screen, so I tend to use my switch more than the deck. But if you're playing a lot of games that aren't on the switch or have performance compromised, then get a deck
If the deck were 100 grams lighter and had an OLED screen then it would be no contest
Having had both, deck is better and there's no need to hack it
It just serves no real market. Too bulky and battery intensive to be a real handheld. As a piracy machine, everyone who pirates games in amounts enough to matter has already hacked their much more portable 3DS/PSP/Vita or just does it on their much more powerful desktop. As much as you might not like it, The Switch being so user friendly a legitimate retard can use it, is very important to the Normie market.
What a bunch of bs, deck is superior to the Switch and I say this as someone who has a switch. It's just as user friendly if you only use steam on it and the Switch is way harder to use outside of recommended stuff like hacking it where as on the deck you don't even have to hack it to do things like pirating
> It's just as user friendly if you only use steam on it
Most people don’t want to be messing with tdp/fsr/in game settings on it.
Seriously once this console stops having so many asterisks on it then you can probably recommend it to the average person.
Bait aside, I will definitely give credit to the fact that the switch runs its native games better than steam Deck does .
Unless you're somewhat savvy with computers there's less chance of you truly being able to enjoy The full potential of the deck.
Whereas you buy Nintendo online with your switch and you've experienced everything there is to experience on the switch
Switch sucks
I'm not sure what that has to do with anything
Aren't most switches incapable of being hacked nowadays too?
another point for the deck
PSP was a great emulation machine 10 years ago, not anymore and Vita is somehow awful at emulation, it can't even do N64 or old MAME well. Can't speak for 3DS because didn't even think it was worth hacking since an emulator came out so soon.
I can speak for the 3DS, it's my second favorite emulation tool next to the deck but it pales in comparison to the amount of shit that the steam deck can run, anything that isn't a handheld and anything With 3D graphics outside of 3DS games It is next to impossible to run for the 3DS .
It works great for any handheld prior to the 3DS and 3DS with the exception of the PSP.
If you've got like 200 bucks and you're dying to try one out you could buy them on eBay used from Japan
But that's the point. Why would you care about emulating fancy 3D titles on a portable? No one is playing Doom Eternal on the Switch Undocked.
I'm not talking about fancy I'm just talking in general, literally you can't even play gravity Rush on a 3DS because anything with remotely challenging 3D graphics is too much for it to run .
You also can't even play Nintendo 64 games on it or anything like that, any non handheld is too much for it, it doesn't have to be DOOM Eternal levels of graphics but Even something like Luigi's Mansion Is impossible to play on 3DS .
If you're looking for something that plays like Game boy games and stuff like that then the 3DS is perfect, I literally could not recommend a better console for handheld gaming for non 3D titles, but if you want something like Wii u games that you can play on the go or GameCube games or even Nintendo 64 games, the steam deck is where it's at.
It would be good if it didn't have a 30 minute battery life
I don't think it flopped necessarily, but only children really get usage out of portable systems. Like I had a long ass bus ride to school where I did homework, read or gamed, but once I got home I would instead play on a console instead my gameboy or some shit unless the portable game was really good.
Nowadays I can only really game at home, so portability isn't that important
>I don't think it flopped necessarily
In no way has it flopped and I have no clue why Ganker keeps going on like it did. Makes zero sense
Easy bait to get threads started thanks to the thin skinned nature of the average steamie
I'm literally almost 30, I get more use out of my steam deck that I get out of my PC at points because the fact that I'm constantly traveling .
Unless I want to go long periods of time without touching a single game, I'd much rather take the steam deck with me than any other portable console .
And before you try to pull the
>Just get a laptop
Shit with me, I have one. Honestly as far as portability goes I still prefer the steam deck, I can lay a bed of a hotel and Play whatever game I want for the most part before I go to bed.
>but only children really get usage out of portable systems
More like only children don't understand that people who usually spend 8-10 hours a day sitting on a chair at work (often in front of a computer) don't want to continue sitting in front of a computer when they get home.
I like to lay down in bed and play on a portable with background noise from my PC or TV
>Too big
>Too heavy
>Shit screen
>Terrible battery life
>Still has worse graphics than the PS4 when docked
Valve really fucked up going with AMD/CISC
>>Too big
>>Too heavy
>perfect size
>perfect weight
>screen is fine
>battery life is whatever you want it to be if you're not a brainlet
>muh graphics argument
AMD was the right choice, they're integrated graphics GODS right now.
Just ordered mine on sale, 360 bucks is an insane steal for what you get
Cannot wait to play some good fucking vidya on this thing
thanks for playtesting early adopter bros
>Just ordered mine on sale, 360 bucks is an insane steal for what you get
Eeeeeeehhhhh no
name a single device that comes even close to what the deck is offering
I've always been into handhelds, I even own an nvidia shield portable and was early jumping on the game streaming wagon
Cannot wait to get my hands on a deck and get everything running
>name a single device that comes even close to what the deck is offering
Any £400 laptop I can get an i5 1235u laptop for the same price as a 256gb deck. Nevertheless it doesn't matter too much. I'm just somewhat disappointed with it.
I'm probably going to sell it if gpd makes another clamshel handheld with a keyboard or something.
>laptop
Still.
>Can you film yourself playing while standing?
It isn't comparable comfortable to play whilst standing.
Well, that's exactly my point.
Laptops are good and all, but they require some kind of stable surface to function, even if it's your legs.
Not exactly a substitute for the handheld, even if they weigh the same.
>Laptops are good and all, but they require some kind of stable surface to function, even if it's your legs.
I'm talking about the deck too.
I had no problem playing while standing.
Just like with the Switch
Lol actually less then that.
>380 pounds
Thats more than a 360 buck deck for worse performance, worse customer support, worse community support and the list goes on
Do you unironically think that that garbage will be a better gaming device than a steam deck?
So fucking glad I left the shithole that is Bongistan for the land of the free
Imagine living in a country where you have to monitor your homes energy usage lmao complete fucking thirdies
>Thats more than a 360 buck deck for worse performance,
The cpu is better so for emulation and whatnot it's better
>worse customer support
Ppppffftsjahahahahhaahah shut the fuck up bro. Buying it from laptop direct is way better than buying shit from Valve a company gorrilons away in the usa. They have a 1 year warranty and I'll have the device a lot quicker than if I break my deck. There is a difference between chinlshit companies and actuall laptop/hardware shops in the uk.
>The cpu is better so for emulation and whatnot it's better
The emulation community has been riding the deck since its release and will only get better
You are already seeing the deck become THE emulation machine with every single developer working to support it better
I'm sorry lad, but that literal paki tier laptop is not better than a steamdeck
For a comparable experience I'm looking at minimum 2x to 3x the price. Even then, youre still stuck with the form factor that sucks cock for gaming
People who want to emulate, fix their devices and run linux
The deck will have WAY better support over its lifetime than a budget hp laptop
>paki laptop
Hp is a good brand, they have a better track record than valve when it comes to hardware.
>run linux
Puke that's not a pro
>People who want to emulate
5% if people who own this device?
As for the comment it is better than a deck for emulation, even the 1215u is better as emulation is mainly cpu bound.
The cpu on the deck isn’t good it's an old zen 2 chip found in 4300u laptops and those are quite old released back in 2020 January
Here is the cpu geekbench 6 score for the steam deck.
https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/564877
Ryzen 3 4300u
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/20735844
I3 1215u
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/20829920
I5 1235u
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/20876251
The igpu(apu) on the deck is better though 30-40% better than intel xe graphics atm.
>worse community support
Who buys laptop " for the community" weird point to make man when it's just a laptop.
nta, but I do. This is the reason I've bought a Mac.
Chances are, if I had a problem, somebody else had the exact same problem, asked a question and got an answer.
This is also the reason why using non-English Windows or an unpopular Linux distro sucks.
You can usually type stuff into Google and get an answer.
>Who buys laptops for customer support
Everyone should, especially garbage like HP, considering HP junk has around 40% RMA rate because of batteries that inflate in them constantly or USB ports that stop working.
>junk has around 40% RMA rate because of batteries that inflate in them constantly or USB ports that stop working.
Never happened with me and you are acting as if valves hardware is any better. Many people had to rma their 1000 dollar indexes as they were faulty.
>Never happened with me
Good for you, too bad I have actual data based on around slightly over 12000 HP laptops bought for the company I work with during the last 8 years, which is think is a bit more than your single shitty laptop.
Deck's RMA rate is around 5%, which makes it objectively 8 times better than useless HP trash you and your pajeet friends are trying to shill here.
>objectively 8 times better than useless HP trash you and your pajeet friends are trying to shill here.
Then just buy dell or something hp isn'tthe main point I'm trying to bring up, either way laptops for the pricepoint of the deck aren't bad.
>either way laptops for the pricepoint of the deck aren't bad
But they are extremely bad and completely useless for gaming. Literal 2000$ can't run games worth for shit when not plugged in and chugging absurd amounts of power, and here you are pretending a shitty 500$ with 8GB of RAM is gonna be a gaming device lmao.
>Just buy Dell
>https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-G15-5510-laptop-review-Budget-120-Hz-gaming-laptop-faces-its-AMD-counterpart.616766.0.html
>Battery life 1h 06m
>On battery power, the CPU performance drops by 10% to 50% in various benchmarks.
>On battery power (Windows setting "Best Performance"), performance decreases significantly. For example, the graphics score of 3DMark's Fire Strike benchmark of 6,900 points is over 50% lower than when plugged in
>The previously described performance throttling on battery power causes The Witcher 3's frame rate to drop to 30 fps at the highest graphics setting - about 45% less than when plugged in.
>Price 1000$
This laptop costs 1000$ and struggles to run 8 year old games like Witcher 3 at 30 fps, now imagine how shitty these crappy HP laptops you're trying to shill are.
Dell's consumer and gaming offerings are garbage. The only good machines they make are the business line precision and xps and even those are inferior to thinkpads.
>Dell's consumer and gaming offerings are garbage
Literally every gaming laptop is like this. This is not a Dell issue, it's an issue where gaming laptops need to be plugged in and suck well over 100W of power, otherwise they suck ass, making them not actually portable in any way, and not comparable to handhelds that use hardware that doesn't throttle up to 90% when not plugged in. I can give you similar data for anything you want, even 3000$ laptops struggle to run games at 30fps.
So basically what you're recommending is that people spend >1000$ on a laptop with 1 hour battery life that runs games like Witcher 3 at barely 30 fps, and that it's a better choice than the Deck which costs half as much, and can run Witcher 3 at close to 60 fps for slightly over 2 hours at max TDP. Do you now understand how retarded you are?
>So basically what you're recommending is that people spend >1000$ on a laptop with 1 hour battery life that runs games like Witcher 3 at barely 30 fps, and that it's a better choice than the Deck which costs half as much, and can run Witcher 3 at close to 60 fps
At 720p?????? Come on man..
If someone wants better performance they would buy a gaming laptop
It can also be used for more than just gaming and is more useful in that regards. Just for the extra utility and being able to use it for work related stuff makes it a better sell then the steam deck
800p
Also deck has a desktop mode
>If someone wants better performance they would buy a gaming laptop
>1000 $ laptop struggling to run Witcher 3 at 30fps is better performance than Deck running it at 50-60
Pajeet please
>Pajeet please
1080p >720p.
And 3050ti laptops with ani7 can un it at 1080p 120fps fine.
Even 1650 laptops can run it at 1080p 60fps.
>This laptop costs 1000$ and struggles to run 8 year old games like Witcher 3 at 30 fps, now imagine how shitty these crappy HP laptops you're trying to shill are.
Still better than the deck when running at 1080p. And everyone who's when you unplug the battery in gaming laptops performance suffered,on integrated graphics it doesn't. Also the cpu on that laptop is worse than the i5 1235u, that cpu is an old 10th gen cpu from intel and that's quite far behind modern stuff.
The cpu on that laptop is actually a bit pathetic.
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/20842923
The steam decks cpu, the i3 1215u and my old 3500u laptop that I bought for £500 in 2020 is better.
https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/20843935
>And everyone who's when you unplug the battery in gaming laptops performance suffered,on integrated graphics it doesn't.
English please Mr. Singh, even chat GPT4 can't decode your pajeet garble
>English please Mr. Singh, even chat GPT4 can't decode your pajeet garble
I'mtired, I was on general anesthesia today as I had an operation in the hospital.
What I'm trying to say is everyone knows whn you unplug the battery on a gaming laptop the performance suffers, this doesn't happen on laptops with integrated graphics.
>Deck's RMA rate is around 5%,
Where are you getting that statistic from? And that is quite high.
>Valve immediately discontinue a 10% discount for 1 year old hardware when that would decimate most companies' balance sheet.
Laptops go on sale all the time more than 10% off too at least in the uk. The price is probably just inflated a bit.
Laptops are built like crap to meet the margins that allow for that to happen, even with gaming laptops for the most part. That's why business laptops nowadays are the only viable laptops for long term usage because they are built like tanks and are expensive. The Steam Deck isn't business laptop grade good all throughout but stuff like the speakers and joysticks are at that level which wouldn't be that expected in a $399 dollar base price. Valve's only real issue is quality control and cheaping out on parts but it's not surprising given it's their first attempt at making PC handhelds.
>be that expected in a $399 dollar base price.
Only the speakers are good the joysticks, have a weird loud click sound when I move them. Doesn't really scream quality when my old xbox one controller doesn't do that.
The igpu is still a bit crap and to be expected, integrated graphics are still quite bad.
>the joysticks, have a weird loud click sound when I move them
Capacitive wire, probably.
>And that is quite high
That is not high at all you clueless retard. Like I've already said, I have been working in a tech company and have access to RMA and purchase and return data on all equipment we have been buying (tens of thousands of phones, laptops, tablets, etc.), and I have yet to see anything more complex than a pocket calculator with <5% RMA rate.
Alright ,though I still don't really see why you are trying to shill a deck over a gaming laptop when a laptop can be used for a lot more than just gaming. Whilst the deck, no I tried to use it for other tasks but it just shits the bed. Also the screen is a bit too small.
>though I still don't really see why you are trying to shill a deck over a gaming laptop
Because the Deck is a portable handheld device, a gaming laptop is a gimped desktop, which can't be used if you're away from a power socket for anything other than web browsing, making it a completely useless and pointless gaming device.
>when a laptop can be used for a lot more than just gaming
Such as?
>Whilst the deck, no I tried to use it for other tasks but it just shits the bed
Pajeet please, if you're gonna LARP as someone who actually used the Deck, try to actually improve your english, it's painfully obvious you don't live in a country where Decks are available
>Such as?
Word documents game development blender/maya3d.
I still use my old laptop instead of the deck for those tasks as it's just too cumbersome on the steam deck.
>Pajeet please, if you're gonna LARP as someone who actually used the Deck
I'm playing tekken 7 on it right now. It's ontop of my ipad pro m1 2021
>Word documents game development blender/maya3d
You can literally do all of this on a Deck since it's a PC. Got anything else?
>10% off
Sounds like they're working on revving up a v2 model with a spec bump if they're already cutting under their margins on the original model.
>if they're already cutting under their margins on the original model.
The product wasn't selling at a loss imo, the cpu is worse than the i3 1215u but the gpu is better. The deck is also using omega cheap components in the 64gb model (64gb eMMC ain't good)
Nah, they've already said any revisions in the near future will just be iterations focusing on battery life, better screen, etc. Deck 2 is a long way off, probably a couple of years. I can definitely see them releasing a 1tb "premium" version with extra bells and whistles before the end of the year, though.
I figure a Deck 2 will happen when the R&D and price of newer faster/efficient parts ends up being cheaper than trying to continue manufacturing the older processors.
I have a huge backlog of games on steam that I will probably never play. Plus all the free epic store games. Did any of you who got a deck actually manage to put a dent in your backlog? I'm thinking it might be neat to play stuff like Risen or something on the couch or in bed
>thinking a $400 handheld that can perfectly play rdr2 will fail
At worst it will simply not be in mainstream discussion all the time and would still enjoy a steady adoption rate for functionally forever.
Because the Switch exist.
valve won
>barely 1 year old device
>-10% percent off sale already
Oh no no no no.... Deckbros...
For Deck 2 I'd like to see a user swappable battery and SSD, better sticks, USB C port on the bottom, and redesigned circular concave track pads along the lines of the Steam controller, as that shape lends itself more to radial menus and provides some guidance/resistance along the edges when used in games.
Swappable battery is pretty much dead, like seriously even in laptops it's becoming rare to find .
Why allow people to swap batteries when you can just have them trade in the device itself for a new one
I hate that you're probably right, but I've heard they stopped gluing the batteries in the current deck to make them easier to replace so there's always a chance.
>This freightens and scares the gluelet
If you use liquid adhesive in your product, I don't fucking care. You fucked up.
By the way, the frame the battery is in makes it annoying to get this stuff underneath, you basically need a hair dryer or heat gun
Yeah, dabbing that shit underneath the battery while prying at it seems way easier than just popping it out of a slot and popping in a new one, what was I thinking
If not easily user swappable I hope that they at least use pull adhesive strips instead of whatever the fuck they used in the deck.
>64gb? Check
>10% off? Check
>70€ for 512GB? Check
>447€ for 512GB? Check
>early adopters? rustled jimmies
Based, I already had the SD so used the extra cash to buy a dock and some controllers
wtf why is it ten percent off?
Because spring sale? Besides, the whole selling-at-a-loss thing was always a myth.
I like how so many people in this thread have completely ignored the fact that valve just started their annual spring sale and instead have been doom posting about the deck
>started their annual spring sale
I don't think anyone cares about the sale at the moment.
I do .
I'm going to use it to try to find some decent games to buy on my deck.
Any chance it will go down even more during summer? With this discount I can get it at 300 since I have some gift cards I never used.
People took Gaben saying the pricepoint was painful to mean it was at a loss when it was never stated directly. It's the same for the fact that it only sold 1 million units when that was a speculated number from a KDE developer who wasn't affiliated with the company. Valve aren't in any way obligated to share anything to the public about their company because they are a private company. There are no shareholders that will force Valve to do anything with the device like doing a revolt and making Valve immediately discontinue a 10% discount for 1 year old hardware when that would decimate most companies' balance sheet.
Steam sale to make money off software purchases. people who buy a deck will buy games in the sale
Also supply is looking good, consider it a soft re-launch. Wait time is now 1-2 weeks instead of a multi month long waiting list
The early adopters would have helped iron out issues and now valve is ready to go full throttle on sales
It's a niche item for enthusiasts that did about as well as they expected.
It has no exclusives. Everything you can play on your STeam Deck can already be played on pc.
Pc master race wins again
> why deck flop?
no cute and retarded ai girl built in.
The deck is perfectly capable of running AIshit via rocm just like every other RDNA2 gpu. Be the change you want to see in the world.
Because I can pick up one of these for dirt cheap instead
Deck won
Steam controller 2 when?
