-Great software/OS (Having used an Index for years, it's actually better for flying and driving simulators than SteamVR just by itself)
- An incredible quantity of new releases that they practically give away for free, thanks to the most generous referral program in te history of gaming.
For me, it's the lack of quality, non-gimmicky games. VR devs are simply subpar compared to normal game devs and rely on gimmicks instead of Just Making Good Game. Exceptions apply of course.
It's too fricking expensive:
In hardware (you need a new PC to use it, and the headsets aren't cheap either)
In square footage (you need an empty room to use it)
In development (it takes more money to make a game that only a fraction of the market can play)
>No open source tracking software that's particularly usable >Controllers are almost always paired to the headset and the controllers are usually designed by committee, which means we were initially stuck with pseudo-wiimotes (people can call them wands all they want, that's where the form factor came from) and are now stuck with Oculus controllers. >Larger players like Faceberg have settled into planned obsolescence cycles where they barely improve their headsets and purposefully hold things back
These have slowed forward progress to a crawl.
>hardware
You need a PC from the past 8ish years, headsets can be standalone for 300-500$ as well >Room
Smallish studio apartment seems fine >development
Nothing worthwhile is getting developed for any device anymore anyway, there's a reason 9th gen consoles were basically just scalperbait
Without being able to actually move around in the virtual space and potentially even feel the things you are interacting with then it's a gimmick that amounts to little more than having a tv right in front of your face. Games are still more comfortable when played on a regular screen. VR will continue to be a fun little thing to experience every now and then but until it can get closer to an actual virtual reality that you can interact with then it'll never beat regular games for most people.
>feel things you are interacting with
Construct some force feedback gloves for 50$.
too expensive and gimmicky. For VR to really work it needs to be >available to the masses >fulfill a popular demand that cant be met by other means
Right now it's still just a TV strapped to your face
>available to the masses
Not only is it available to the masses, but everything that has been available to the masses has died in 3 years.
>Smallish studio apartment seems fine
sure if you just moved in and its empty, I have a dedicated gaming/home theater room and its full of expensive gaming monitors and tv, punching a hole in said electronics would not be a thing I would want to do...
the dining room is full with dining room type of furniture, and the bedroom.. well there is a bed in it... so yea how are you gonna play VR in a "STUDIO"?? which should have all of those things in a single room?
Seated VR works and most of my furniture can be folded and stowed or is up against the wall by default.
>Smallish studio apartment seems fine
Except that studio apartment can't have anything else in it
I just have a 2.5m*2.5m blank space where I usually unfold a mattress or a solid table or whatever that packs away flat when it isn't needed.
Right and how many "small studio apartments" have a spot where you can stand, duck, and rotate 360 degrees arms fully extended without touching anything? Ideally you want a little more than a full arms length to accommodate for any leaning or slight shifts in position.
If 30m2 (lazily laser tape measuring 2 values and pretending that it's all one continuous space) is small, then mine. Smallish I guess, but my interior decoration is pretty stupid.
>You need a PC from the past 8ish years, headsets can be standalone for 300-500$ as well
You are the problem. Modern VR headsets are require 4k 90hz. You need a powerful GPU or it's going to be shit. People trying it with underpowered 8 year old GPU's and seeing it at it's worst is what's killing it.
Maybe if they get their heads out of their asses and release something that's actually as good as a 1080 without intentionally compromising to make the card worthless and not future-proof.

They do it on purpose. VR defenders want to have their cake and eat it when it comes to appraising VR in these threads. >No you're wrong, VR isn't low-res low-FOV dogshit!
*points to a $2,000 Pimax Crystal* >You're also wrong about the cost! You can use it for $300!
*points to a low-res, low-FOV dogshit Quest 2*
It's completely dishonest to represent VR in this way. There are several posts in all of the threads here doing this, pointing to the cheapness of one set and the quality of another as if they're talking about the same thing.
Without being able to actually move around in the virtual space and potentially even feel the things you are interacting with then it's a gimmick that amounts to little more than having a tv right in front of your face. its a fun idea in concept but i think most people dont have the time or money to set up a whole room just for VR, especially since VR games are mostly tech demos.
too expensive and gimmicky. For VR to really work it needs to be >available to the masses >fulfill a popular demand that cant be met by other means

Genuinely, because VR porn isn't good enough. Porn is the driver of innovation. Porn sold VHS. Porn sold DVD. Porn sold the internet. Porn sold video streaming. And, porn is what will sell VR.
Make a killer porn app for VR and you will print money
Too gimmicky; not refined enough for accuracy/ timing intensive gaming, too expensive, and on a personal note, I don't like shit attached to my face, I wanna be able to observe my immediate surroundings at all times
>dream of VR as displayed in Sword Art Online (2012)
You wear a headband that jacks you into an exciting fantasy world where you can touch/feel/smell/etc and basically enter a new universe >VR as advertised by Zuckerberg who tried to corner the market (2022)
You wear a bulky collection of cables that still needs to be plugged into a PC so you can experience gay shit like digital shopping and business meetings or a heavily censored miiverse
Competency crisis and pajeetcode ensures it is too late to turn things around. VR is dead.
Because it's not SAO.
People want their VR to be SAO and it's not SAO. It's not even trying to be SAO.
I'm also very bothered that the only SAO games are the shitty hollow timeline shit.
You are aware yet again that SAO's setting is wasted on Reki's writing
Back in 2014 Valve was working with Oculus, HTC, and microsoft to develop hardware and software to make VR work. Open cooperation for the betterment of the medium benefited everyone. When facebook bought oculus they not only forbade cooperation but over the years they also started scalping talent from other companies by offering absurd salaries then they had those people work on Zuck's moronic virtual office metaverse concept instead of making games. This crippled VR's potential.
VR waggle probably not as good as it should be
No good games for it, If only we had like WoW2 VRMMOFPS with geophysics and full destruction physics. But innovation is beyond fricking dead, studios can't even make the typical slop thats been done for 10 years hardly and it takes them 8 years to make a flop.
I don't wanna spend like 1600 bux to explore if I wanna furry troon in VR like a loser.
>not the same man
The only difference is that there's no head strap. >and the resolution on this was like 640x480 per eye lmao

>The only difference is that there's no head strap.
and no 6DOF tracking or separate motion controllers
That's what ended up killing Android VR.
It was interesting how they implemented VR with all the limitations of just using the switch and joycon >No head strap so it doesn't hurt your face but tire your arms instead cause you had to hold it >Had six degree of freedom control using the joycon ir sensor
Wonder what they could do if they decide to make a dedicated headset that could plug into the switch/switch 2
This video made me remember how people would make caricatures of Brazilian chads being into video games and instead of fricking smoking hot 10/10 brazilian chicks they would instead play cs1.6
>has plenty of games + lots of emulators and classic pc game ports
None of which are really made better by strapping the TV to your face.
The only vr experience worth a shit after the initial novelty wears off is racing games.
yeah it's fine for that
pico 3 or 4 may be cheaper, but quest has much more options in terms of non vrchat stuff
vrchat is lame though just so you know, and you can still participate in vrchat from pc
I would wait, there will be a bunch of 4k per eye headsets coming later in the year
https://www.engadget.com/qualcomms-improved-snapdragon-xr2-chip-for-vr-headsets-will-debut-at-ces-2024-140047958.html
surely there will be a Quest Pro 2 that uses this chip and is more geared to countering AVP, but still being a beast for gaming
not interested, looks soulless
you know those generic medieval fantasy games on pc with no name characters? it looks like that
I will wait for nintendo's zelda vr
archery, climbing, swordfighting, fishing are all things vr does well, for zelda to combine those mechanics into a real game...
but it'll probably be a long time before nintendo does that
I think they would be natural fits, but nintendo is weird
there's many things they could and should do, but dont
they could have done lots with fzero and starfox with wii controls but didnt do squat
nintendogs for phones makes a lot of sense
>Zelda cool I guess
it would be fantastic
even botw in vr is more interesting than 99% of vr games, nintendo is just more appealing
it is inevitable that nintendo does this when the tech is ready and affordable for mass market
also helps that botw/totk are physics based, thats really good in vr
Holy sóy. Nintendies really are impressed by the most basic physics interactions. The fact that he loves weightless waggle shit tells me more than enough.
There's plenty of good VR games out there but Gankerirgins are hooked up on this basic 2016 early VR shit.
it's good
it's just like a regular flat game, but obviously, made for VR, so all the setpieces and settings are really big and impressive.
gameplay is okay, puzzles are neat if a little easy, but also not long enough to become annoying.
it's like ocarina of time-skyrim with generic egyptian mythology/norse mythos stuff going on.
it's also pretty long your first companion is a sassy pantheress anthro that wants your D
It hasn't failed though. It's still going and they're still making new products. It is shit in its current state yeah but it might get better at some point.
This >get a decent phone with a nice resolution screen and get the biggest SD card you can find >get a good quality VR case for it >vrporn dot com or other sites and torrent everything you want >pirate a video editor (filmora 9 in my case) to cut the bullshit you dont want to maximize storage space >get a fleshlight-onahole of your liking >??? >profit
Its even better than hiring a prostitute.

I mentally put myself off the whole idea when i remembered the motion was more than likely programmed by a guy, so technically it's a guy jacking me off.
yeah, no thanks.
No killer app or games that are worth it.
Only ones I can think of are Alyx and maybe Bonelabs but that's it there rest is just the usual tech demos that you play for 3 hours and then never touch again.
nobod in the VR space is actually going to buy these. They're massivly expensive apply display extensions that are designed for the AR capability rather than full on VR.
AR is pushed by execs who want to make it the "next gen display" for business and office work and activley avoid the VR base bacause they think its gimmiky and childish.
The only people who would buy these are either braindead apple slaves who would put an iron bar through their head if tim cook asked, or rich c**ts who buy it only for the price
>over engineered >feature creep >requires specific pipeline to develop for >expensive >motion sickness >bulky >either shitty battery life or tethered with a cable >gimmick based games and software ideas >general use functions can be done on existing non VR & AR hardware. See: Apple Vision Pro >no real way to integrate into existing technology that wont make one or the other pointless to use >investing in only one type of technology space and expecting it to progress into "the next thing" when its already so niche >who cares >motion controls and gestures are fricking lame >why does it always have to look like a pair of ski goggles ? >even if more companies are going to develop and have their own versions of VR and AR headsets they're all going to want to you to be exclusively on their own little shitty platform, It needs to function like a TV or a personal computer or ontologically like a smart phone
It's why all the best head strap designs put the weight on top of the head, with something like a power bank on the back to counter act the pressure on your face. It's fricking moronic that apple with all their money still went with a "all the weight will be pushed against your face" design for the vision pro
Because it's not SAO.
People want their VR to be SAO and it's not SAO. It's not even trying to be SAO.
I'm also very bothered that the only SAO games are the shitty hollow timeline shit.
That's because of two reasons, you >haven't had in games for so long that you've forgotten the experience of it/too much of a baby to be old enough to remember it >have no one to play with
That's because companies are not putting their resources in making current tech able to compute split-screen (which would require more console power) and putting those resources in dumb shit like VR instead because surprise, surprise, they want games to be more isolating to generate the most system sales/online transactions
The consumer base isn't vocal enough and are now voting with their wallets though (as evidenced by shit VR sales)
Frick you. You fricking wienerroach.
NTA but I want split screen back for co-op. Some of the most fun I've ever had in gaming was in co-op games with my brother. We lived together for a while back when we were both broke years ago and spent most evenings just getting stoned and playing Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Alien Storm, Gunstar Heroes, Zombies ate my Neighbours, Timesplitters 2 & 3, COD Black Ops (Zombie mode), Army of Two, Left 4 Dead. Good times.
>have no one to play with
This one.
I used to play with my brother as a kid, but he became a huge c**t, and I haven't had in person friends in like 8 years since moving around to different states.
I wish Sony gave more support to the PSVR2 and pushed it harder. The headset is great, but it feels like an after thought to them only after one year, still excited to try metro VR though. Where's the next astrobot game? Where's the 1st party stuff?
VR was dead the moment the exclusivity bullshit started. There's no reason RE4 couldn't be played on a quest 1 for example. gaybook gated it off to sell their new headset completely ass fricking early adopters. I'm not exaggerating either it really runs perfectly fine on the quest 1 you just have to pirate and sideload.
I pirated it and sideloaded it on the quest 1, there was a single issue where there was some cutscene of a car rolling downhill towards you that just would not work on quest for some reason, something to do with the framerate, aside from that everything else worked fine.
The companies and big-wigs want the metaverse to actually be real so that people work and play in the same world which means all attention/ad revenue is in one place, maximising profit.
>Why?
Nobody wants to sit there with stupid fricking goggles on their face that make them feel sick after 15 minutes. >But I don't get motion sickness!!!
Great, you're in the group of 5% that don't get sim sickness. Well done. Good for you. Here is your dead platform.
bought a secondhand Quest 2 for £80 after the Quest 3 was announced, even standalone i havent had an issue finding good games. waiting for deckard to come out and make pcvr usable on linux before i try that thoughbeit.
>i havent had an issue finding good games
Good for you if you're easy to please. Personally if I'm paying $30 for a game in 2024 I expect a fully-featured game with a full campaign, not a glorified tech demo or arcade game.
it didnt, but its such a niche thing. I, or most people in general, do not want to wail around my living room like a spastic when gaming instead of just sitting down on my couch or computer chair
>I, or most people in general, do not want to wail around my living room like a spastic when gaming instead of just sitting down on my couch or computer chair
I love VR and I dislike waving my arms around like a spastic. I'd play more games if they allowed the xbox controller option. Little chance of that happening due to the meta cult
I run Retroarch, Kodi, Dolphin natively on the headset.
I played Hogwarts Legacy, Hitman and Splinter Cell games recently.

they're not mods, they're games running either on my PC, or on the headset, using a controller.
So laying back, playing metroid with a fricking cinema screen floating in front of me.
If you want VR games that i've played with a controller, then FPV Drone sim, Elite Dangerous, MSFS, Trover, War Thunder.
Enthusiasts will never admit it, but your picture is why.
The simple truth is that regular people don't want to wear shit on their head. They didn't want to wear glasses for 3d movies and they definitely want to wear headsets for VR.
cant speak for others but i get anxious if vision of my surroundings in real life is obstructed
it's the main reason I actually prefer standard headphones instead of in-ear because I like to still be aware of surroundings. If you're going noise-cancelling or in-ear etc you're a fricking moron.
until you've sat in the gunner seat of an AH-64, flown a TBM-930 above a hurricane, reloaded a box of 7.62 while sitting in the zone, and could count the pores on the butthole of the questionably underdeveloped actress on an 8k VR uncensored JAV facesitting journey, all in the same day, then you don't get to say it failed
I keep thinking of getting a vr headset but then I remember my friend who has his collecting dust due to the dogshit shovelware game library, I've been thinking about getting it for 3D modeling to make it feel more like real life buildikg shit

>And not being a moron is why i'm not poor, and why you'll be forever both.
So, what is the point of having more money?
Part of the reason is because Valve does things in the right direction but it does them half assedly. If they found a way to make the Valve Index to be mass produced at reasonable prices and used by most people like the Meta Quest, then there would be a bigger market for games. The other reason is that the actual successful VR market (under Meta) is accomplished by a moronic megalomaniac who's only concern isn't gaming but the furthering of his ~~*handlers*~~
>Meta said that no Quest 3 exclusive games would be released before the end of 2023 >The first Q3 exclusive comes out Jan 4th
Well that was fast.
Apparently it's only on Q3 because it needs the stronger CPU to handle the city building stuff, the Q2 port of Cities Skylines was limited to a single map tile while on PSVR2 you could use up to nine.
recently rebought a PSVR1 again and am enjoying it. now that a ton of VR games go on sale for 75% off it's great to pick up games I normally wouldn't have paid attention to and have some fun. Some of the best games don't even use the motion controllers. For instance Star Wars Squadrons can be played in VR and it's actually best to sit in a chair since you're in a wienerpit anyway. Game was on sale for like $1.99 too so it's a great time.
you can't feel the things there, is like watching a movie without sound, but maybe in 10 years when you can actually feel the things that you see it'll be a success, but not yet

You need about an arm length radius of empty space.
Then we circle back to movement breaking immersion.
>movement breaking immersion.
it doesn't break it anymore than playing regular games does, you enjoy games dont you?
I've never felt very immersed in normal games either tbh
That's true of big rooms too. If you really want to be that immersed, then get the omnidirectional treadmill
Are there any good ones that don't cost a fortune?
Right and how many "small studio apartments" have a spot where you can stand, duck, and rotate 360 degrees arms fully extended without touching anything? Ideally you want a little more than a full arms length to accommodate for any leaning or slight shifts in position.

>No you're wrong, VR isn't low-res low-FOV dogshit!
*points to a $2,000 Pimax Crystal*
>You're also wrong about the cost!
Games are still more comfortable when played on a regular screen. VR will continue to be a fun little thing to experience every now and then but until it can get closer to an actual virtual reality that you can interact with then it'll never beat regular games for most people.
>amounts to little more than having a tv right in front of your face
it is NOT like this
it's 3d
the scale is completely different
its a fun idea in concept but i think most people dont have the time or money to set up a whole room just for VR, especially since VR games are mostly tech demos.
too expensive and gimmicky. For VR to really work it needs to be
>available to the masses
>fulfill a popular demand that cant be met by other means
Right now it's still just a TV strapped to your face
Genuinely, because VR porn isn't good enough. Porn is the driver of innovation. Porn sold VHS. Porn sold DVD. Porn sold the internet. Porn sold video streaming. And, porn is what will sell VR.
Make a killer porn app for VR and you will print money
Too gimmicky; not refined enough for accuracy/ timing intensive gaming, too expensive, and on a personal note, I don't like shit attached to my face, I wanna be able to observe my immediate surroundings at all times
It's not immersive enough.
Good lord, sauce please
Jews.
>dream of VR as displayed in Sword Art Online (2012)
You wear a headband that jacks you into an exciting fantasy world where you can touch/feel/smell/etc and basically enter a new universe
>VR as advertised by Zuckerberg who tried to corner the market (2022)
You wear a bulky collection of cables that still needs to be plugged into a PC so you can experience gay shit like digital shopping and business meetings or a heavily censored miiverse
Competency crisis and pajeetcode ensures it is too late to turn things around. VR is dead.
I love visiting VR threads so i can read every flavor of shit opinion from poorgays that never tried it
It's expensiver as frig and everything that even comes close to being a killer app is a tech demo.
Motion controls is and always has been a shit gimmick.
It's my favourite gimmick. Getting good at Beat Saber is so much fun, and I imagine getting good at hip aiming in shooters is quite similar.
I don't wanna spend like 1600 bux to explore if I wanna furry troon in VR like a loser.
it didn't
consoles didnt take off til nintendo
vr wont take off til nintendo does a headset
>vr wont take off til nintendo does a headset
a real one
that does this
not the same man
and the resolution on this was like 640x480 per eye lmao
juuuuust wait til wii games run in vr and you can use the controllers
>not the same man
The only difference is that there's no head strap.
>and the resolution on this was like 640x480 per eye lmao
Yeah, it's still a Switch so it's still garbage hardware.
>The only difference is that there's no head strap.
and no 6DOF tracking or separate motion controllers
That's what ended up killing Android VR.
It was interesting how they implemented VR with all the limitations of just using the switch and joycon
>No head strap so it doesn't hurt your face but tire your arms instead cause you had to hold it
>Had six degree of freedom control using the joycon ir sensor
Wonder what they could do if they decide to make a dedicated headset that could plug into the switch/switch 2
This video made me remember how people would make caricatures of Brazilian chads being into video games and instead of fricking smoking hot 10/10 brazilian chicks they would instead play cs1.6
Good times.
Expensive, no games, need a big empty room to do anything with it. There's also the huge problem with no good solution to player movement.
everything you said is not true
you just revealed you never played vr, or only played it for 2mins and got dizzy
It is expensive and does have no games.
200-300$ is not expensive
It is for something that is little more than a novelty.
yeah for a shitty Quest 2 with a 4k display and 90 degree FOV lmao a decent headset costs $1000+
didn't learn punctuation in school yet?
>didn't learn punctuation in school yet?
speak English, you moronic third worlder
quest is $200 now
has plenty of games + lots of emulators and classic pc game ports
you're full of shit
>has plenty of games + lots of emulators and classic pc game ports
None of which are really made better by strapping the TV to your face.
The only vr experience worth a shit after the initial novelty wears off is racing games.
dont forget UEVR just unlocked a shitton of pc games for vr
Black person I've had my headset for like 6 years now.
>has 6 year old headset that is not supported by anything anymore
>tries to tell you about whats going on quest
buy it right or buy it twice lmao
is the Quest 2 good enough where I could gay it up in VRchat and not invest too much you think?
yeah it's fine for that
pico 3 or 4 may be cheaper, but quest has much more options in terms of non vrchat stuff
vrchat is lame though just so you know, and you can still participate in vrchat from pc
Any one here tried Asgards wrath 2? I hear it's on par with half life alyx.
I would have if it wasn't exclusive. Facebook is moronic.
If they keep getting more high profile exclusive, I might just buy the quest 3.
You should buy Q3 anyway if you're in need of a headset, it's the most well-rounded one for now.
It's hard to upgrade from the quest one when It still works wonderfully connected to my PC.
I would wait, there will be a bunch of 4k per eye headsets coming later in the year
https://www.engadget.com/qualcomms-improved-snapdragon-xr2-chip-for-vr-headsets-will-debut-at-ces-2024-140047958.html
surely there will be a Quest Pro 2 that uses this chip and is more geared to countering AVP, but still being a beast for gaming
not interested, looks soulless
you know those generic medieval fantasy games on pc with no name characters? it looks like that
I will wait for nintendo's zelda vr
archery, climbing, swordfighting, fishing are all things vr does well, for zelda to combine those mechanics into a real game...
but it'll probably be a long time before nintendo does that
I think Nintendo is waiting to revive F Zero and Star Fox in VR. I just have a feeling about it. But yeah, Zelda cool I guess
There's plenty of good VR games out there but Gankerirgins are hooked up on this basic 2016 early VR shit.
it's good
it's just like a regular flat game, but obviously, made for VR, so all the setpieces and settings are really big and impressive.
gameplay is okay, puzzles are neat if a little easy, but also not long enough to become annoying.
it's like ocarina of time-skyrim with generic egyptian mythology/norse mythos stuff going on.
it's also pretty long
your first companion is a sassy pantheress anthro that wants your D
It hasn't failed though. It's still going and they're still making new products. It is shit in its current state yeah but it might get better at some point.
its literally a mobile phone screen taped to your eyes why would anyone want this?
Because in higher res and field of view, VR porn is great. You can watch it anywhere
You have an addiction.
To heroin? What of it
Sense of depth and scale are cool.
>Ganker constantly b***hes about how normalgays ruined gaming
>Ganker also constantly b***hes about why VR isn't popular with normalgays
You need some normalgay audience to get budget for development. Hard to get good vr games with a shoestring budget
it's still a gimmick
Did it fail? It just seemed to settle in as a niche
anyone who thought it was going to REPLACE traditional vidya was an idiot
it will eventually. games like RE7 in VR are some of the best experiences in all of gaming.
VR should just be for Sex games
It didnt
expensive, motion sickness is a very real problem, lack of games
>motion sickness is a very real problem
Hahahahaha
I only use VR for porn.
This
>get a decent phone with a nice resolution screen and get the biggest SD card you can find
>get a good quality VR case for it
>vrporn dot com or other sites and torrent everything you want
>pirate a video editor (filmora 9 in my case) to cut the bullshit you dont want to maximize storage space
>get a fleshlight-onahole of your liking
>???
>profit
Its even better than hiring a prostitute.
>get a fleshlight-onahole of your liking
funscripts & The Handy
it's VR for your wiener.
>funscripts & The Handy
what's that?
TheHandy is a fleshlight that syncs with your VR porn.
funscripts are the way to sync the motion/movement of the VR porn to your Handy.
Sounds amazing but it's one of those things that would probably wear off after a while and you regret paying for. I'm happy with mobile VR porn
Agreed, i'm in the same boat.
Looks like it'd be awesome, but just having a wank will achieve the same goal for a lot cheaper.
I mentally put myself off the whole idea when i remembered the motion was more than likely programmed by a guy, so technically it's a guy jacking me off.
yeah, no thanks.
Google literally removed VR support from Android 11 in 2020... so, why bother? Just get a cheap Quest 2 or even better Pico 4 during a sale.
No killer app or games that are worth it.
Only ones I can think of are Alyx and maybe Bonelabs but that's it there rest is just the usual tech demos that you play for 3 hours and then never touch again.
Why is all the marketing for this $4000 toy exclusively Black folk?
If that thing is the PSVR2, then it's cause that's Sony's fanbase
nobod in the VR space is actually going to buy these. They're massivly expensive apply display extensions that are designed for the AR capability rather than full on VR.
AR is pushed by execs who want to make it the "next gen display" for business and office work and activley avoid the VR base bacause they think its gimmiky and childish.
The only people who would buy these are either braindead apple slaves who would put an iron bar through their head if tim cook asked, or rich c**ts who buy it only for the price
>over engineered
>feature creep
>requires specific pipeline to develop for
>expensive
>motion sickness
>bulky
>either shitty battery life or tethered with a cable
>gimmick based games and software ideas
>general use functions can be done on existing non VR & AR hardware. See: Apple Vision Pro
>no real way to integrate into existing technology that wont make one or the other pointless to use
>investing in only one type of technology space and expecting it to progress into "the next thing" when its already so niche
>who cares
>motion controls and gestures are fricking lame
>why does it always have to look like a pair of ski goggles ?
>even if more companies are going to develop and have their own versions of VR and AR headsets they're all going to want to you to be exclusively on their own little shitty platform, It needs to function like a TV or a personal computer or ontologically like a smart phone
TL;DR never tried it
Having a weighty brick strapped to your face that removes all peripheral vision and gives you motion sickness kinda sucks.
>having to sit upright at a desk with a mouse and keyboard while staring at a flashing monitor kinda sucks
It's why all the best head strap designs put the weight on top of the head, with something like a power bank on the back to counter act the pressure on your face. It's fricking moronic that apple with all their money still went with a "all the weight will be pushed against your face" design for the vision pro
>removes all peripheral vision
not for long
Ultimately just a convoluted setup just to play what amounts to mario party tier mini-games mostly.
Because it's not SAO.
People want their VR to be SAO and it's not SAO. It's not even trying to be SAO.
I'm also very bothered that the only SAO games are the shitty hollow timeline shit.
Because people want split-screen options in games back not fricking VR
I personally don't give a frick about split screen at all.
That's because of two reasons, you
>haven't had in games for so long that you've forgotten the experience of it/too much of a baby to be old enough to remember it
>have no one to play with
Stay out of this acting like you're the majority
>people want split screen in games is why VR is failing
>but there hasn't been split screen in any games in the last 20 years
fricking moron
That's because companies are not putting their resources in making current tech able to compute split-screen (which would require more console power) and putting those resources in dumb shit like VR instead because surprise, surprise, they want games to be more isolating to generate the most system sales/online transactions
The consumer base isn't vocal enough and are now voting with their wallets though (as evidenced by shit VR sales)
Frick you. You fricking wienerroach.
What's your favourite board game to play with the bros?
NTA but I always bust out Cosmic Frog. Gobble up them planets with the boys
>waaahh waaaahh waaaaahhh wahhh
complaining about no split screen games in a vr thread
fricking moron
>as evidenced by shit VR sales
quest 2 sold more than 40 million units already
not shit at all
Be honest anon, you just want to screen cheat again and fight about how you're totally not doing it
NTA but I want split screen back for co-op.
Theres a reason why Professional E Sports driver didnt use it
what was the reason?
I would assume this has more to do with regulations in esports than what they want to use.
Imagine taking this so seriously? I would much prefer to play something like Outrun which is much more fun.
amd amx
I wish Sony gave more support to the PSVR2 and pushed it harder. The headset is great, but it feels like an after thought to them only after one year, still excited to try metro VR though. Where's the next astrobot game? Where's the 1st party stuff?
Uncomfortable.
VR was dead the moment the exclusivity bullshit started. There's no reason RE4 couldn't be played on a quest 1 for example. gaybook gated it off to sell their new headset completely ass fricking early adopters. I'm not exaggerating either it really runs perfectly fine on the quest 1 you just have to pirate and sideload.
>it really runs perfectly fine on the quest 1
The whole game?
I pirated it and sideloaded it on the quest 1, there was a single issue where there was some cutscene of a car rolling downhill towards you that just would not work on quest for some reason, something to do with the framerate, aside from that everything else worked fine.
>aside from that everything else worked fine.
what about mercenaries mode when there's 30 enemies? that might push the Q1 to its limits
Clunky and expensive. The reward? Corporate ads or second life.
The companies and big-wigs want the metaverse to actually be real so that people work and play in the same world which means all attention/ad revenue is in one place, maximising profit.
VR kinda is split screen if you think about it
Is a Quest 1 worth it if you use it for only Virtual Desktop and SteamVR?
Unless you're really tight for money why not get a quest 2
it didnt, but its such a niche thing.
I use my xbox controller with it.
fricking pair it, you spaz
use xbox controller with what?
Quest 3
what games you absolute bellend
I run Retroarch, Kodi, Dolphin natively on the headset.
I played Hogwarts Legacy, Hitman and Splinter Cell games recently.
Those aren't VR games. Those are mods.
they're not mods, they're games running either on my PC, or on the headset, using a controller.
I unironically don't get this argument. How is it any different to wearing headphones?
cant speak for others but i get anxious if vision of my surroundings in real life is obstructed
This
it's the main reason I actually prefer standard headphones instead of in-ear because I like to still be aware of surroundings. If you're going noise-cancelling or in-ear etc you're a fricking moron.
>They didn't want to wear glasses for 3d movies
the problem is the glasses darken the image
Some journo's eyeball started bleeding after using the vision pro and that's a good thing.
until you've sat in the gunner seat of an AH-64, flown a TBM-930 above a hurricane, reloaded a box of 7.62 while sitting in the zone, and could count the pores on the butthole of the questionably underdeveloped actress on an 8k VR uncensored JAV facesitting journey, all in the same day, then you don't get to say it failed
As long its strapping a monitor to your face will always flop
I keep thinking of getting a vr headset but then I remember my friend who has his collecting dust due to the dogshit shovelware game library, I've been thinking about getting it for 3D modeling to make it feel more like real life buildikg shit
I love my Quest 3 a lot, but the head strap sucks.
VR is not worth it before OLED displays are the norm
Facebook brought all the competition
I wonder what glorious VR days we'd be living in now If Facebook didn't force wireless mobile shit on to everyone.
Wireless Quest 3 is the best PCVR headset you can buy.
lol , it's the cheapest junk you can buy
moron
>shit display, shit processor, latency, video compression, mobile games. ps2 era graphics, owned by clueless obnoxious wankers
also
>it's bestest!!
>baseless bullshit
>Not understanding what PCVR is.
I can tell you don't own one, pleb.
>you just don't understand or own one
You're right. I learned how shit Quest headsets are after buying a Quest pro and seeing for myself how bad it looked. It's funny watching you try and validate your budget low end junk headset though
So, what you're saying is you ARE a moron, you bought a quest pro, probably didnt even turn up the settings for PCVR use, probably had a low end PC and your shit struggled to even hit 72hz?
lmao kid, lmao indeed.
>you bought a quest pro, probably didnt even turn up the settings for PCVR use,
ahh, the old "you didn't do it right" excuse for how shit Quests are.
> probably had a low end PC and your shit struggled to even hit 72hz?
I have a better PC than you and have owned more headsets than you.
Sure you do, little man.
keep seething that mommy wont upgrade your 1080p because you spent all your vbux allowance already.
the absolute hilarity of your posts.
>you're poor.
>I own a Quest
lol
>best PCVR experience without spending $2k+
And not being a moron is why i'm not poor, and why you'll be forever both.
It needs an additional human coffin that simulates touch
>troony
>simulating
You know a lot about that don't you
YWNBAW btw
It cost money.
>he doesn't have a wireless pcvr setup with full body tracking
And you call yourself a gamer?
VR was, is, and always will be a stupid gimmick
it is conceptually faulty on its basic premises
>Meta said that no Quest 3 exclusive games would be released before the end of 2023
>The first Q3 exclusive comes out Jan 4th
Well that was fast.
Apparently it's only on Q3 because it needs the stronger CPU to handle the city building stuff, the Q2 port of Cities Skylines was limited to a single map tile while on PSVR2 you could use up to nine.
until they invent BCI this will remain just another toy for geeks and those with lots of disposable income. also still no killer app.
recently rebought a PSVR1 again and am enjoying it. now that a ton of VR games go on sale for 75% off it's great to pick up games I normally wouldn't have paid attention to and have some fun. Some of the best games don't even use the motion controllers. For instance Star Wars Squadrons can be played in VR and it's actually best to sit in a chair since you're in a wienerpit anyway. Game was on sale for like $1.99 too so it's a great time.
you can't feel the things there, is like watching a movie without sound, but maybe in 10 years when you can actually feel the things that you see it'll be a success, but not yet
>is like watching a movie without sound
Do dummies like you really think they're convincing anyone that they actually tried VR
Because you touch yourself at night to VR porn, which is what ruined the tech, because its only lasting value is for porn
You need to be both rich and easy prey for tech gimmicks in order to get into VR
Someone with 3 whole hundred dollaridoos is rich to you ?
do you forget where you are?
90% of the people here can't run 1080p 60fps
