>Despite being its creator, the God holds no love nor attachment toward all the living beings, seeing them as something that only existed, to be gazed upon, and to be known about. >To this end, the God created the Judgement of Time, an event that decides the fate of the world every thousand years
I dunno about this one.
probably because there's like 10 million gods in japan so it's easy thing to do. anything you want to make as a boss there's god that you can use to make it seem more cool than just having non god as enemy. then japs go all "wooow it's the god of ant leaf eaters! frick yeah that's awesome!!!"
Usually you are fighting A god or something with the power of a god, but never just God as Christianity knows him, aside from SMT, but that's the point of SMT. The point is that it's a simple power fantasy to play as the underdogs who ultimately triumph over some seemingly insurmountable force. It is cathartic to the average joe who encounters many hurdles in life they are unable to get over. It is escapism.
In Japan there isn't as much of a barrier between human and god as here in the west. To them the Abrahamic God is just a really powerful dude, not the omnipotent creator of the universe.
Evil appearing under the mantle of Good is an universal and historical trope designed to teach children not to take all things at face value. One of Christianity's most famous parables is precisely the betrayal of Judas Iscariot
Japan treats Christianity the way westerners do Greek/Egyptian/Norse/etc mythology. They have no reason to respect it because the vast majority of them don't believe in it, it's just an intriguing fiction to them.
It's exotic western myths for them like greek mythology and what not. In the XVII century it was seen as a threat and rightfully so, the efforts of jesuit missionaries sent by Portugal, one of the strongest naval empires of the west with multiple colonies around Africa, Asia and America, converted 500k people in Nagasaki in just a few years. Then they purged them and a few went into hiding. 200 years later the christian ban was lifted. And 72 years after that? The USA dropped an atomic bomb in what was practically the capital of christianity in Japan.
SMT is a "Religionboo" (to coin a phrase) series. It's not about a specific message against religion, it's about "look how much exotic stuff we have in our series! It's just like the Yokai myths!"

Why are they like that, bros?
Japanese fiction involves killing a lot of Japanese Gods too, although you see that more often in anime than games. It has nothing to do with the west.
Null: Sleep/Mirage/Poison/Confusion/Charm/Seal
Resist: All except nuclear/elec
Skills:
DC-8: forces protag demons to be de-summoned

Name one singular JRPG where you fight the big capital G
SMT2
yhvh isn't God
Dragon Age Origins
>j
I kneel
Dragon Age is not a JRPG series.
Dragon Quest 7
They literally relocalized this guy as "The Almighty" in the 3DS remake. What a bunch of cowards.
Not so fast
>requests a friendly spar
That's true. Your end goal is not to kill God here, but you do fight him, and maybe that's as close as we'll ever get honestly.
Luminous Arc 1 and 3
>Despite being its creator, the God holds no love nor attachment toward all the living beings, seeing them as something that only existed, to be gazed upon, and to be known about.
>To this end, the God created the Judgement of Time, an event that decides the fate of the world every thousand years
I dunno about this one.
Do you want an Abrahamic God in particular or something? Jrpgs are fantasy.
I want the literal christian capital G god
Nobody gives a shit about power hungry clowns that ascend or 300 different "god of the west facing toilet"
You want ShinMegaTen
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen
so fricking incorrect it leads me to believe you've never actually played the game
Is the ascended arisen not the in universe God? You even need Godsbane to kill him/yourself
Is Izanami god, or do you mean specifically the Abrahamic god?
Not the Christian God, but in LRFFXIII you fight that universe's capital G God in Bhunivelze and kill him.
>Not the Christian God, but
then why did you bother filling out a captcha

Eight, actually, if you take yaoyorozu literally.
At around 1400 Japan entered the age of Man.

It's a jab at the Meiji-era Shinto-influenced social order.
Jews are aliens in that game
Sophiroth I designed after a fallen angel thoughever. The closest thing to “God” in FF7 would be the planet
Christianity isn't that big in Japan so they really just take it as a potential setting for games, that's also where lewd nuns come from.
>that's also where lewd nuns come from
1880's "The Sin" from Heinrich Lossow
It's cooler than fighting an evil wizard or dragon. That gets old pretty quick.

They have a thing for Gnosticism & Kabbalism. The mystic nature is close to Buddhism which allows them to critique it indirectly.
japen has many cult clubs that worship "gods"
>thread specifically mentioned christianity
>ask to name it
>"uhhh do you mean abrahamic gods"
Ganker is really special today
There's tons of offshoots of the Christian faith, so you'll have to be specific on that too.
If my dick is stronger than God then they will end up fighting with it
pic unrelated
It has almost nothing to do with Christianity and is very easy to understand if you know at least a little bit about the religious history of Japan.
Is SMT/Persona a satanist series?
Lucifer is either the anti-hero, one of the strongest demons or the boss of a lot of the games.
He's a villain, he's just a hypocrite on top of it. He's also the last boss more often than YHVH.
depends which ending you choose
SMT is a "Religionboo" (to coin a phrase) series. It's not about a specific message against religion, it's about "look how much exotic stuff we have in our series! It's just like the Yokai myths!"
No. The YHVH isn’t the Christian god and is more like the demiurge. The Digital Devil version is the closest they got to depicting capital G God.
There are plenty of JRPGs that don't fall into that cliche. And I'm not going to list them because I have a duty to gatekeep.

It's 5:00 AM EST on a weekday, tardo
"American hours" refers to Israel times, actually.

Can they add Xenu in the next game?
Lvl 90

It's more of a jab against their culture.
It's just a neat aethetic they like using.
>God is only Christian
?
sephiroth isn't God, he's a person who has powerful alien dna
