    I have two
The original release and the OLED LE
I'm a big fan of the Deck and what Valve did to embolden the handheld PC market

How is the OLED compared to the LCD? I got the LCD for cheap when the OLED was announced but I'm wondering if it was a bad idea.

        Seconding this.

Saving up for an oled $100 a paycheck. My mid tier LCD has gotten more use in the past year than almost any other device I have, including phone and tablet.

The oled seems like it's just a better model. Plan on keeping the LCD and just keep it permanently docked or as a backup.

The colours are more accurate and getting real black is nice when I'm lying in bed in my dark room, but I wouldn't say the screen is transformative
Surprisingly, the most noticeable changes are the ergonomics
The reduced weight is a lot more noticeable than I thought it was going to be, and the new thumbsticks are significantly more usable (though you can fix that with thumbstick caps on the LCD model)
The increased battery life is also really nice if you're using it away from a wall socket, but I know that's not everyone's use case

I felt it was 100% worth the purchase for me (I also use the LCD model at work as a laptop/tablet, though), but I don't think you need to upgrade to an OLED if you don't have the disposable income

I see, I'll probably hold off until Deck 2 or a price drop then. There have been a few times where I wished the LCD was more vibrant/brighter but I usually play indoors so it's not a major issue. Thanks anon.

As someone who doesn't like the large size, doesn't use the trackpads, was not fond of the sloping buttons or horizontal layout and generally chose the Deck because I didn't see much alternatives at the time, ergonomics is not the thing I would criticize it on after holding it. I still will trade it for a smaller handheld PC in the future but I will miss that comfort just a bit. It looks dumb but it works.

      This.

How often do you leave your house?

i dont leave house to play videogames.
I play videogames at home, on higher performance PC with large screen and proper keyboard and mouse (or pad if games are comfy for pad like racing games). There are only 24 hours in the day, why should I spend some of these hours playing on inferior handheld setup if I instead can play on superior desktop setup?
These things are for people with no actual home (they have place to sleep but it's not a real home).
Or only legit case if your commute includes long public transit ride without lane change (train most likely). Or if you are janitor who sits all day staring at surveillance camera in storehouse where nothing ever happens.

It's everything you'd dream a hacked vita/switch can do. And does it remarkably well.

      >b-but my battery life!
Most games on low give you 3 hours minimum.

Played new vegas all day and it lasted a full 8 hours.

      >b-but you don't leave the house!
Yeah? But I can play it all over the house and it's super easy to bring to a friend's house. Even easier than bringing a switch over because I can use any controller

      >b-but it's all Linux!
Proton has come a long way. Most games that don't support it at all aren't even worth playing.

Proton even works better than windows for quite a few games

      >b-b-b-but it's never going to not be a niche!
Yeah? It's well supported and enough people have one where troubleshooting specific games or problems are as easy as a Google search to figure out.

I have 100% control over what I do with mine. I can play starless, space pirate Sara and other eroges in private.
I can do side stuff in RPGs while watching TV.

Did I mention pretty much any game runs on it? Seriously any game I've thrown at it it runs well enough. Small screen, you don't need ultra or anything.

The single best gaming purchase I've ever made.
Cry more while I play persona 3 Reload and like a dragon infinite wealth in bed.

Oh and I can hook it up to the TV easier than a switch and use any controller I desire.

I don't see myself using one. Most games I'm playing on PC are better played with mouse and keyboard and if I feel the need to have it portable, it's usually a gamepad game for which I have Switch. Plus I have Razer Kishi for emulating on the phone.

It has a single type-C port that's main purpose is for charging, but you can connect any other device to that port
A dock will give you access to more USB ports (and just about any laptop dock will work) and, yes, you can just hook up a mouse and keyboard; the only issue is you might have to utilize desktop mode to get the mouse and keyboard controls to work in some games

While I don't disagree, do remember that one of the biggest features of the Steam Deck over the other handheld PCs is it's suspend feature
In your example, you could simply just sleep your Steam Deck at the end of your commute and resume from that exact point without needing to have saved on your commute back home

    Steam Deck, yes.

Xemu, no. I've already played every single original Xbox game I was even remotely interested in playing.

Microsoft killed it quickly in favor of the 360. That meant going to Babbages/Electronics Boutique, playing $70, and walking out with a massive stack of games. Steam sale before steam. Good times.

Why do people keep forgetting you can hook up a steam deck to the TV with a dock?

720p upscaled on low settings blown out on a 4K TV sure is a good idea.

Or I could just get a PS5 or hook up a real PC and get a reasonable experience.
