You don't even need a modchip for the older models. The library is massive and it's the only console getting games currently. There is no excuse.

the excuse is not having an older model
I did hack it but now I just use my Deck which has access to the Switch library anyways without modding/hacking required.
Deck has a much worse screen than the OLED and laggy Switch emulation compared to any model if you play a game side by side. Not to mention even less battery playtime. If you own a Switch already it's moronic to emulate it on the Deck.
You're right because Switch emulation isn't perfect but you can't hack an OLED so that's not a factor. I have a Deck and I still play Switch games on my hacked Switch.
>you can't hack an OLED so that's not a factor.
Yes, you can. In fact if you don't have one yet, it better to just buy a new one online with a modchip installed instead of doing it yourself.
>Yes, you can.
he obviously meant software hack. of course you can chip whatever model of the switch.
>it better to just buy a new one online with a modchip installed instead of doing it yourself.
They're >$750. For shit, dated hardware lmfao.
>$750
? You get a new modded one for 450$.
He said to buy an OLED switch with mod chip already installed you fricking moron
Yes, moron. You ok?
Show me a place selling them for $450
From the guy who wrote the good oled hack guide. Oh, price got upped to 530$ since I bought mine.
>Indonesia
Yeah, I'm sure shipping those to a relevant country is cheap. Also, you concede since it's over the price you state.
take the L
530$ and 750$ which is more than two OLEDs is pretty far apart, kys.
What's the shipping cost out of Indonesia?
Cope
Depends on various things, do you have autism?
No, I'm just sick of morons like yourself lying.
autism
Funny how we've gone from
>it's only $450!!
to $628 (pre-tax)

>still being illiterate and whining

I don't have an OLED Switch. Also there are no performance problems once you tweak the Deck GPU settings. SMTV plays the same for me on both Deck and Switch. Battery life is also substantially improved by just lowering Deck settings to that of the Switch. The GPU is configured from stock to run AAA games like DMC5 but it's overkill for Switch games. I get about 5 hours of playtime with SMTV, about 2 with DMC5.
"gotten" is not a word.
Yes it is.
It isn't. The correct form is "got".
>North American
Well, that just proves my point.
extreme cope
I'm not the one defending a made-up word.
You're the one who got BTFO after making a moronic claim.
If this helps you sleep at night, sure. "Gotten" still isn't and will never be a word.

It's also in the Cambridge / Oxford dictionary, has been in use (in Britain) since at least the 14th century (so it in fact originated in Britain), and can be found in King James' bible
Aren't all words made up?
All words are made up, stinky.
porch monkey nu-speak
>the older models
IF I HAD ONE!
But I already have all the games I wanted on cartridges. After all, this is the only advantage consoles have over PC: being able to admire your collection without looking at a screen.
I do.
I just never use it because I can emulate the games on PC.
>hack my switch
>have access to hundreds of games
>end up using it more as a remote play device for my ps5
to play no games?
Sony has the right idea, games suck
emulators are a way to go. base switch sucks if you are trying to play it on anything with resolution higher than 1080p
I have no desire to own a Switch. Hacked of otherwise. You need to have gotten this through your thick skull by now; I'm very open about it.
I have one and I don't fricking use it
My old model switch is in rough shape, the vent is broke and it whirrrrrrs sometimes. Can I hack my OLED?
You can, but you will need a modchip and it's rather difficult to install on your own unless you have experience in soldering tbh.
and how do i do it without a mod chip?
With a jig. Or if you don't want to spend money a little tinfoil + tape does the job just fine. Just google switch heck and try to use the rentry guide.
I use my vita more than my switch since the latter is not as portable. Can you hack the switch lite?
Lite needs a modchip too.
o fug
I don't have an older model and there seems to be no hope of another softmod at this time.
I have a hacked Switch
How do I quickly identify an old hackable model? I might try to get one from the local pawn shop.
Just check the serialnumber in the Systemsettings. You can find it on the bottom left of the Switch too, but there are some people who put a frick number there (not kidding), so always check in the settings.
Serial number on the tablet

How do emulators on switch fare?. I use a vita for retro and I'm curious hoy they compare
Pretty good:
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Emulators_on_Switch
They're kinda shit tbh. I hacked my switch for the same reason and honestly it's no more different than what a psp or vita is capable of, with the exception of being able to inject psx/psp/vita games and have them run natively on a hacked psp/vita.
I would say stick with the vita unless you absolutely need to play fourth gen (or GB/GBC/GBA) interchangeably between handheld and docked.
Better than on vita, but not much better. PSOne games are playable and less fricky than they are on Vita (retroarch or "native"), and I never got stutters or slowdowns in some GBA games that I sometimes get on Vita. But it's still not as powerful as a steam deck. If you want an emulation powerhouse - get a deck. Otherwise - stay on vita. I personally prefer Vita for sound and better screen.
Because the oled screen is worth paying for games to play on.
I'd hack it if I could, but I'd rather use it then my hacked day 1 switch.
I did. Got the 512 gig card and almost a hundred games, but all I play is Isaac that I bought anyway.
i did mine a few months ago, is there a point in updating it and how do i
The only reason to ever update your setup is if there is a new game that doesnt install right for you, otherwise don't. So it depends on what you are playing.
In this order:
Update Sigpatches
Update Atmosphere
Update any addons (like Mission Control), if you're using them
Remove any themes, if you're using them.
Go to Darthsternie and download the latest firmware
Copy it to your SD card
Run Daybreak and install
But as the other anon said, you should only update if a game needs it. No point otherwise.
thanks. since its only a few months old it probably wont need updating any time soon right? 14.0.0 and pokemon worked "fine"
You're fine. I'm not aware of any games requiring 15+. If you have any questions about updating in future, check the guide on /hbg/ on /vg/.
Look into AutoRCM.
>Please keep in mind that the console can no longer boot on its own, so you'll need a PC, phone, or other payload injector to start the console after letting the console fully shut off
Then your options are:
>leave it in sleep mode all the time. No need to inject a payload
>use the jig to enter RCM and then send a payload
>use AutoRCM and send a payload
I just keep mine in the dock in sleep mode when I'm not using it.
I bought a 1TB SD card but I don't know if upgrading an SD card is simply dragging the old contents into the new one or if I have to run something with Hekate
Did you make an Emunand when you hacked your Switch? If yes file-based or partition-based?
Ahh. It's been 2 years since I hacked my switch so I can't remember to be honest. I know I'm on emunand. I think it should be partition based
Then you'll have to do more than just copy over your SD data, read https://rentry.org/EmuNANDNewSDcard
Thanks anon I'll have to take a look after I'm done wagecucking today
I hacked my switch as soon as fusee leaked, and promptly got it banned because early atmosphere sent its error logs to nintendo lol
I haven't touched it in a while, especially ever since I got my deck.
Question is, should I sell my OG switch, get an OLED, and modchip it for botw2, or wait to see if switch 2/pro releases with botw2?
If you already have a hacked switch, just wait for the next console. Hacked OLED is great, but it feels like you'd put a lot of money in just to later buy the next console on top.
Fair enough, also SX core clones are still stupid expensive, but at least easier to find.
Hopefully the switch2/pro is blown open as fast as the switch was, I really don't feel like paying for gamefreaks half assed games next gen.
but I do! it's wicked.
Because I can emulate it for free.
Can I leave it in pirate mode yet? Do I need to use that jig all the time after the battery dies?
>Do I need to use that jig all the time after the battery dies?
Yes, but why would you ever turn if completely off or let the battery die? Just put it on standy. It take like what? 5 - 8% battery in standy for a whole day? That's nothing. You only have to charge it like twice a month if you don't play at all.
>mod switch
>play the one game worth playing
>stick in a closet for a year
>next game worth playing comes out
>homebrew won't install it because shit is changing every fricking week in the homebrew scene because these gays have nothing better to do
>need to update sigpatches because new games require it
>updater doesn't work, installer doesn't work, usb transfer doesn't work, goldleaf doesn't work, tinfoil doesn't work, awoo doesn't work etc etc etc etc fricking etc
>have to reinstall everything from fricking scratch yet again
EVERY
FRICKING
TIME
one game a year comes out on this shitass console and i have to start all over every fricking year just to hit install on an iso because you homosexual homebrew scene moronS think you're all so fricking important
I mean the point of atmosphere is to be a complete rewrite of horizonOS, so shit will break very often.
For as much shit people gave SXOS, and it deserved it, at least it did sigpatches and shit for you and was much easier to update after long stretches of time compared to atmosphere.
>at least it did sigpatches
and look where that got them
imo it was the modchips that got them ninja'd
They were fine for years, but magically got caught and arrested right before shipping something that made literally every switch moddable.
Nintendo probably ignored SXOS before modchips because getting rid of it wouldn't magically stop piracy on fusee switches, while stopping modchips would prevent piracy on newer switches.
not worth the hassle, just pay 60$.
Nintendo is the greatest company in the world anyways.
Nah I'd rather be a criminal, thanks.
>just pay 6000$ for your game collection bro
that and they get real anal when you use the shit they make for piracy when there is no other reason to use it. i hate that shit so much, pirates who have some moral grandstanding episode are fricking moronic and unfortunately it plagues homebrew the most
Unfortunately a lot of the main developers in homebrew also have real jobs in the tech space, and have some links between them and their online aliases. Some even put their homebrew work on their CVs. Pretty sure some of the OG fusee people work for google project zero
Even just accepting that people use their shit for piracy is grounds to get them fired from their jobs because corporate autism and nintendo fan autism.
iirc sciresm posted on /hbg/ before saying he doesn't really care about piracy and just said what I said as to why he acts the way he does on discord and github.
For me the funniest part of it all is when you enter a discord/reddit/whatthefrickever thread asking for help because you can't install a game and the frickers that are TEACHING YOU HOW TO MOD YOUR CONSOLE TO PLAY PIRATE GAMES get all "man, you can't talk about piracy here"
I did it before, it was fun with smash mods. Not as good as other softmodded consoles though, and it's frustrating that you have to jig it every single time.
Now that I have a Steam Deck its back to being the paperweight it was before I hacked it
I have one in the orange zone of the models, but I find it annoying to see if I will be able to hack it, so I'll wait for a better hack method.
Just buy a pre-made jig from Amazon. They're very cheap so it's not like you wasted your money.
now that Steam Deck runs everything I've put my launch switch back in its box so its as good to new as possible for one the inevitable over priced resale market kicks in in 5 years time and I'm able to sell my switch to some brain dead redditor for $1000
> hekate instead of hecate
If you annot even spell it right, I will not use this bumwank hack.
>Why haven't you gotten a hacked Switch yet?
Because I have an OLED, and I'm an adult that can afford games.
Where do you cop a modchip at a good price these days? I kind of want to buy an oled model and mod it.
I bought a hacked Switch but it needs a stupid small dongle just to start it up.
Then I also need to worry about battery life so it's always docked.
is the hack permanent or do you need to keep triggering it?
can you pirate any game or do some guys require updates?
can you play online?
As long as you don't power off your system, the hack remains on. Putting it in sleep mode instead is fine.
If the game needs an update, you'll need to update your system to that first before you can play. You can't play online as Nintendo will ban you.
Bought a Steam Deck instead.
Will get a snitch if I happen upon a good deal and I have spare cash.
Mine is banned wew.
No games worth pirating. I have a switch since day 1 and the only games I played are BOTW, Smash and Metroid Dread.
you dont like video games
The older models have absolute dogshit battery life and are more expensive because of piracy. The OLED model is much better, but the soldering for a modchip is really nasty. Also, performance on all versions of the console is incredibly crappy. I just emulate on the PC.
>dogshit battery life
only matters if you play handheld outside... do you seriously do that...
I take my handhelds to airports/on planes, to the beach sometimes, and when I'm away for work. I also play on them in handheld mode a lot in the house, and it is a huge bonus not having to drag a charger around when I want to play the thing in bed.
I have had a software moddable switch sitting around for 2 years now doing nothing. I hate the hand held mode because of the joycons and docked is not good enough. I just emulate on my pc now.
I use my hacked Switch as a SteamDeck via Android and Moonlight. It's comfy.
I have one and a OLED TV and don't use it because switch is fricking shit
I tried way back, but i'm too much of a nitwit to manage.
I can't even get proper emulation like Ryujinx working.
Mine is from one month after launch, but my brother doesn't want to hack it, he's afraid or something that it will be fricked up
Hacking is 100% safe if you follow a guide and even if you were to frick around, after making a nand backup it doesnt matter if your switch gets bricked you can fix it easily
I would but mine is unhackable
Reminder that a "$3 raspberry pi" based modchip is allegedly in the works
The guy dropped the project after he made a discord to attentionprostitute, people gave him attention and he then got upset about... getting attention. It's not going to be released to the public anymore. Just another troony moment.
The Switch homebrew scene is boring as frick
Because older models are becoming harder to acquire and at a premium, and there's still no "ease of use" software option like Bannerbomb/Multiman.
So what are the benefits of hacking a switch? You can pirate games that's it?
piracy, emulation, ability to backup your shit, custom themes, homebrews just all the usual stuff you get from jailbreaking a console
Besides piracy I mostly use it for overclocking to offset the Switch's god awful hardware
Backing up and modifying your save files. It reduced a lot of the grinding I had to do with Monster Hunter Generations
I havent touched my hacked switch since I got my Steam Deck
