I keep hearing positive things from them but after doing a bit of research it seems to me the only positive about AMD graphics cards is the price. In terms of performance Nvidia is just way better especially with DLSS and Frame generation. It's also more likely to me that Nvidia will keep improving DLSS more than AMD can improve FSR

just werks on Linux
Intel and Nvidia also just works on Linux now, at least for rasterization. GPU computing you install the propietary drivers for Nvidia, and that's it, no matter what you do, you can't do shit with rocm/hip, which you need to install extra packages anyway, so no ootb shitty gpu computing experience on AMD anyway.
Intel is going to take over AMD's radeon market share at this rate.
>Intel and Nvidia also just works on Linux now
The drivers are nowhere near as mature, or well supported as RadV is. Intel's hardware is also still not up to par with what AMD offers.
>you can't do shit with rocm/hip
Haven't had any trouble with it.
>Nvidia also just works on Linux now
lol.. lmao
>you can't do shit with rocm/hip
OP said for gaymen, not everyone cares about stable diffusion porn
pretty sure in 2 years there will be AI games that will only run on a 5090.
then OP's investment will last longer because playing any game made after 2025 will automatically make you a colossal homosexual
and they'll be slop for redditors
This
>tried Linux
>Nvidia driver issues kept being annoying.
>sold Nvidia card, switched to amd.
>made like $300 profit and got more VRAM
>Now everything just werkz
It felt like finally leaving a cult tbh.
Cool. How quickly does it generate Stable Diffusion images?
there used to be a link in the /sdg/ OP that had a table of just about any card that could run it at all and how many iterations/second you can get from it
IDK because I haven’t really bothered with any of that stuff yet.
I also don’t really consider any of the current cards to be worthy of AI because they’ll always come out with better cards eventually.
Getting exited about current cards for AI is like getting exited for Raytracing back in the day with 20 series RTX cards.
Yeah it’s all flashy and new now in the moment.
But in a few years the 40 series will be irrelevant old beta tester kit for AI just like the 20 series became irrelevant old beta tester kit for RT.
RTX 2060 is still a good deal for $100 budget Gankeramers
t. amdrone
I've never done that. Although I have access to Nvidia dgx super pods so that might generate a few funny pictures
7900 XTX ubuntu 22.04
Comfyui with rocm 6. 512x512 generates between 12 and 15 it/s. Depends on if I have other stuff running at the same time.
Watching YouTube is enough to drop it by 1it/s.
I'm fine with the slower speed if it means I can generate higher res images because of the 24gb vram. I queue it to run a few different batches of prompts while I'm at work.
I've been using Linux as my daily driver since 2019, I've always owned Nvidia GPUs and I've never had any issues since I've only used official divers. Maybe you're some Stallmann Wannabe and only want to rely on "muh open source", then that's your problem for being a smelly hobo sperg.
I'm no gaymer gorrillionare with the latest 6090GTXVRXD so my experience differs, the Stallman drivers, although less compatible with gaymes have been usually more stable than the proprietary ones, the framebuffer works too
They're cheaper for the mid-range gamers, but if you need to do high-end computing (especially AI), nvidia just mogs AMD due to their superior software (DLSS, framegen, shadowplay etc.)
Who the frick actually plays games on linux though, that's a tiny minority
homie with amd you can enable framegen in any game. Also amd had it's own version of shadow play for at like 10 years.
>Who the frick actually plays games on linux though, that's a tiny minority
2% of all steam users (march 2024 hw survey)
you mean SteamOS
>fake frames
>superior software
>[drm:amdgpu_bo_move [amdgpu]] *ERROR* failed to pin userptr
>for gaming
linux has no games homie
wine/proton werks these days, it isn't 2008 anymore anon
you don't sound convincing
my games are also pirated
There is no reason. AMD now makes really good CPUs. But there's no reason to buy their GPUs.
>apt install nvidia-driver
So does nvidia. I've used their cards on linux for 15 years.
price value when buying from chinks
worse in every single other aspect
Unlike tessellation, upscaling/framegen/RTX are a bunch of jokes so NVIDIA has no advantage beside being more expensive.
>MUH AI
werks on Linux
>werks on Linux
cope, runs like dogshit, might as well use CPU
AMD still doesn't have hardware encoding for streaming on Discord.
You still run into video player issues in VRCHAT.
FSR just sucks compared to DLSS, even XESS is getting to be better than FSR.
AI performance is hit or miss, Intel is already catching up to AMD.
Their AV1 encoding is still wonky.
> just ignores driver level frame generation
you should just you know. blame discord. is not amds fault. support has been there for way too long already.
Gaming is what AMD GPUs do best.
>the only positive is the price
>the only positive is the price
>the only positive is the price
>the only positive is that AMD asks for less of your labor / time (of which you have only a finite amount) in exchange for the same level of raster performance than nvidia's offering
yes, if you are a crypto-gorillionaire then by all means pay the nvidia premium for no reason
>you have to be a millionaire to not buy something shit because it's cheap
You're genuinely a stupid c**t you donkey ass jit
Nvidia tries to force gimmicks I, as a consumer, don't use (that includes your AI trash) and expects me to pay for their insane marketing budget.
AMD is just stupid overpriced for a gaming toy.
I'm probably buying Intel next because at this point I just want to avoid both of them.
t. 3080
Considering how godawful dlss and especially frame gen are, that's not a selling point worth paying money for.
>I'll just say anything that AMD does suck at is an unpolished and shitty gimmick
they age like fine wine. So in 10 years time you'll gain another 5fps on that game you didn't play.
Test
It's always funny seeing people talk about AMD cards like this... They've been living in the Nvidia bubble and buying only Nvidia products for so long that they completely forgot what the rest of the world is like - it's weird and scary to them. This must be how iToddlers see PC hardware
You'll find that the people refusing to buy AMD aren't doing it out of some irrational fear, they're doing so because they've been burnt in the past.
I'll never consider AMD CPU or GPU again. I don't even look at them when I look to buy new hardware.
Implying that the same doesn't hold true for other vendor with the minority that got burnt by past experiences.
Yes. But I'm not the one in this thread losing my shit because other people choose different things.
Good goy. Funnily enough, i have not bought an Nvidia GPU in over 20 years and was even satisfied with Intel graphics during the Haswell era. To me Nvidia cards look like you're paying extra for the same performance, and i'll sooner buy an Arc card than shell out double $ for less memory
>Good goy.
That's all you're capable of isn't it. Little stupid as frick insults because someone doesn't buy the brand you like. Fricking mong
Just stop spreading bullshit stories on the internet about how everything else sucks and how you were so severely fisted from buying another brand that one time that you will never dare do it again
>Just stop posting if you aren't buying the brand I like
I don't buy AMD because I have bought AMD and had a lot of issues which went away the moment I stopped using AMD. I don't give a shit if that upsets you. Cry more you AMD wienersucking moron
sure thing buddy
I refuse to buy Nvidia. Simple as that.
Because I’ve had 7 nvidia cards prematurely die on me and I’m done getting scammed gayson.
All my AMD cards still work.
>I’ve had 7 nvidia cards prematurely die on me
I've had four Nvidia cards (760, 1060, 2060 and 4090), and a Radeon 6700xt, none has ever died on me. If you've killed 7 cards, you're doing something really wrong.
My geforce 1 and 2 were dead on arrival.
The only nvidia card that didn’t die was a riva tnt2
3 laptop gpus failed, 1 was in a macbook pro
>I've killed 7x Nvidia GPUs by running them with 250w no brand PSUs
Be honest.
AMD GPUs are a meme based on this thread:
https://old.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1bsjm5a/letter_to_amd_ongoing_amd/
To be honest, both camps are totally viable for gayming and media consumption stuff. Brand-gays are just brand-gayging.
Nvidiots are just a larger and louder crowd in their rationalizations. None of the vendors are your friends, they only answer to shareholders.
>the only positive about AMD graphics cards is the price
Yes, that's it basically.
I like them because of their lower price.
>frame generation
>upscaling
what kind of gay loser uses this shit?
People who can use it use it. People who can't use it cry about it
thats crazy but who asked
>?
This is a question mark, meaning something was asked.
reply to me again
I'll do what I like.
AMDtroons are just very vocal with their shilling. Unlike Nvidia, apple, samsung, and Intel that keep pushing innovations in every aspect of the computing industry, lisa su has nothing to offer but #4THEGAMERS tier shit so AMD had to mobilize their paid shill brigades all over the internet to brainwash terminally online soibois and troons.
Sry my dude, AMD gpus are like big blocks, and that's how I like it. Little boys like you wouldn't understand. I should buy a shunted radeon vii and push it to 1kW now that I think about it.
nvenc is far better than whatever shit my old 6700 had
glad i moved to a 4080
AMD is less israeli than Nvidia, simple as. When you buy a 4080 today you just know that Nvidia will not release any new features for your card once a new Gen releases. AMD usually also brings new features to older cards tho.
Used my RX580 till last year, ran like a champ. Funny that there once was a time when people considered the GTX 1060 to be superior.
Also:
>price
>Linux
>vram
>power connector won't start burning
>especially with fake resolution and fake frames
thread is full of Nvidia owners saying what they prefer about their hardware and AMD owners seething, throwing insults and telling them they're morons.
Why are AMD owners like this?
>only positive about AMD graphics cards is the price. In terms of performance Nvidia is just way better
contradiction moron. for the same price amd always outperforms nvidia. especially used market where the price diff can be 50%+.
>dlss
fsr, and yes it's good enough and will only get better. won't arbitrarily get locked out if you don't have the necessary card.
only real edge nvidia really has is running Ai stuff but it will either be replaced with a open standard or just like apple they will be sued by the US for monopolistic practices. otherwise is basically the apple of gpus, overpriced stuff for people who don't know better
>cheaper
>less fake frames
how is AMD not the better company for gaming?
Nvidia is just gonna ignore gaming more and more now that they're raking all their money from AI
>https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1bsjm5a/letter_to_amd_ongoing_amd/
Normies are catching onto their scam
Pretty soon they'll have to rebrand themselves again (ATI->AMD) to fool buyers again or go bankrupt
>the only positive is the price
AKA the most important thing
t. gutter oil drinker
Even if money is tight for you there are more important things like driver quality and compatibility with games.
A $500 that can play almost all games without issue is better than a $100 card with equal performance that can't even play the games you like or that causes frequent game crashes.
It's AMD that has the better drivers since all the non-tourists here are of course using Linux.
>A $500 that can play almost all games without issue
Is called a 7800XT. Meanwhile the Nvidia $500 card is the fricking 4060TI 16gb.
Nvidia and Apple brand loyalists are actual morons and need to be thrown into a volcano.
>you should die because you don't slurp AMD wiener
They suck too. And yes, brand loyalists need to be removed.
So why did you omit them?
AMD has cards under $600 that aren't shit. Nvidia is offering awful value under that range.
>AMD has cards______that aren't shit.
Where?
In the sub-$600 price range.
people game on $600 GPU's?
shocking
4070 and 4070 Super are fine cards.
You just have to accept that AMD being best at cheap rasterization is not really a huge advantage as you may think of, NVIDIA is clearly moving on to a bigger industry and AMD's market share on consumer computers is just not as big for them now.
For example, people think AMD is competing with FSR against Nvidia's DLSS, when in reality FSR competes against NIS, whihc Nvidia released in 2022 and has not updated at all, still FSR manages to be worse.
AMD is a great choice for most of consumer grade computers, their APUs were huge progress in user's quality of life, and AMD should become the defacto reference for basic computing.
But if you want to do real computing, you get Intel and/or Nvidia. Anything serious computer specialized use case will require it. So I'm not saying you're wrong, but the debate itself is, because these are companies that are not long completely fighting for the same market anymore, even if they still overlap in some sections though.
>But if you want to do real computing, you get Intel and/or Nvidia.
what does that even mean?
Linux
