More like it captured no audience so they're gonna try again. Not the first time for them.
11 always felt like a half-assed product with no real coherent vision on if they even wanted to make a new os instead of just an update for 10. The company has no fricking lead whatsoever and it really shows across their whole god damn product line these days.

          Anonymous

Microsoft is so big they have entire wings of the company that don't know other wings exist and have no interaction with them at all, if you ever get a coherent product from Microsoft again it will be as a much smaller company

            Anonymous

I know someone that works there. He told me that those morons have upwards of 5 separate teams working on the same fricking thing without any interaction whatsoever. The service he and his team are working on delivering right now is being worked on by 3 other teams as well. They are basically doing the same work 3 times over.

no shit, it forcefully updates and any pc or laptop you buy comes with it preinstalled. normalgays barely even know they can install a new os, let alone know how to do it

              Anonymous

              >and any pc or laptop you buy comes with it preinstalled
Windows 8 was the same. You seem to have blanked that from your memory. It was still a piece of shit. Windows 11 even has the requirement of needing new CPUs so most people with older hardware couldn't upgrade even if they wanted without buying new or using workarounds to allow it without.

                Anonymous

8 sucked but it was still somewhat close to 7 for not being useless. 10 for what it's worth when stripped back is actually usable and mostly stable. If I could remain on 10 for as long as possible I wouldn't complain. 11 on the other hand has so many backdoor and under the hood things that makes it feel like a slog that I'm more sad that this is the future of windows. I'm not interested in linux as a daily driver, but if it comes to that point I can cope- using linux as a server platform for over a decade has been a blessing. I would be more pissed if I had zero computing knowledge and was stuck with being a boomer normie that complains about things I don't understand.

Must be really hard being a b***h though, there's nothing we can do to fix that, you're memory of 8 was just "it sux", mine was in 2011 "oh it's not 7 but it doesn't make me wanna puke like vista did on launch". Hell even xp was absolute fricking trash, no one remembers that part though. 2000 was beyond great though, but as with all versions of windows having proper hardware will make the experience way better.

                Anonymous

10 is the same shit as 11 is under the hood. The only things that have changed is the obviously visible stuff. If you're not okay with telemetry on 11 why are you coping as if 10 is any different?

            Anonymous

that's definitely not true. Microsoft themselves have said that 11's adoption is slower and have attributed it to the security requirements.

Frick them and their mobile meme.

They’re doing this to force the AI meme even harder. You will need “dedicated AI hardware” to run Windows 12 which means it’s going to be guaranteed to be doing some creepy shit that requires AI programs to be running on your PC 24/7. Probably it will be constantly scanning your files to remove “problematic content” such as edgy memes or pirated games, and will monitor your every action you perform on your PC to an unprecedented extent. Only Black personcattle and pajeets will install Windows 12.

Knowing MS’ typical release quality pattern, W12 will hopefully at least address all the complaints for 11. Or they won’t and we’re just doomed to have pajeet code forever since they downsized their American dev teams for DEI.

They’re making windows worse with every iteration and patch.

Reread my post. I said they’re probably more likely to frick it all up now that they downsized their western software teams. W12 being good is possible since they’ve been known to at least attempt to address main complaints but I’m under no illusion it’s just as likely as it is now as it was eight years ago. They’d need to go back on A LOT policy and infrastructure wise to improve things.

              Anonymous

Maybe? I wouldn’t bet on it.. they’re trying way, way to hard to plug their connected services (despite no one really asking for it) bing in your start menu? Cortana embedded everywhere? Xbox gaming bar or whatever? Hard pass.
The only way they could really “improve” windows is scaling all of that back and making a simple and clean OS with none of that total homosexualry. But they won’t, they’re doubling down on it!

                Anonymous

Yeah pretty much the only hope is MS somehow getting split off and some based dev there creating a fork with fuller functionality. Like a fully realized W10 or 7 without the gay feature set and encrypted program files.

how macOS is walled garden? it has a command line with root privileges, a thing that Windows users can just dream of having. software installs are just drag&drop instead of clicking next 9001 times while dodging malware, spyware, telemetry settings and adware

10 is already pushing my patience with c**ty, intrusive mommying by MS. 11, in the extremely short period of time I tried it was a whole other level of completely c**ty intrusion and nagging - and it ran like a pig. Debian in the same hardware absolutely smoked it on performance. (Mini pc used exclusively for streaming from my gaming pc over my LAN).

        it's Arch

Other guy is mistaking new SteamOS for the old one, SteamOS as on Steam Deck is an Arch distro with Steam and the Discover appimage/flatpak store installed. Same difference really but Debian and Arch are different beasts. "Desktop Mode" is still extremely normie-friendly and Proton runs pretty much whatever the frick you want it to, and if it doesn't run something there's Proton-GE to fix it.

Well Mac abandoned the X thing with Big Sur. I never really understood it anyway. They were clearly doing new yearly versions regardless far larger than a typical cumulative windows update.

they abandoned the "X" because moving a major version for Apple Silicon made more sense. Big Sur was the first OS they released for the M1

Your antiquated computer can run Windows 11 perfectly fine, lrn2regedit or run a patched installer. You're bumping into the TPM requirement (that is not a hard requirement) and nothing else.
