i like the input from her. i like when ai allies speak to you and try to help. how insecure do you have to be to get angry that an ai partner is pointing out you can do something that you would have figured out yourself?

at least in re4r its done realistically. it doesnt feel like the devs are patronizing you. it actually feels like ashley is keeping her eyes open, watching leons back, and attempting to figure things out. like when she helps you with the puzzle to open the gate in that one dungeon area

im dumb with puzzles though. my iq for dark souls combat is like 200 but when it comes to some puzzles my iq is 20. i walked around that dungeon for what seemed like years trying to figure out how to open the gate. then ashleys like "hey i think you can probably shoot that thing in there" and instead of getting angry i was like holy shit thank you so much you fantastic woman. maaaaan i just wanna shoot zombies

Yeah and that’s all Uncharted 4 is. Most “puzzles” in the game you either have to fail numerous times to build fake tension or you literally put your controller down while an npc solves it for you. It’s fricking insulting. I’ve never seen a game so anti-fun before.

And it pisses me off to because TLoU2 would be everyone’s idea of Naughty Dog not wanting you to have fun but it’s way more enjoyable just from a gameplay perspective than Uncharted. Everyone looks at me like “dude what? That’s the wacky fun series how could it be more anti-player than Last of Us??”

And as for OP, if they just had a zombie carrying yellow paint around it wouldn’t bother me as much. In fact it’d be so dumb I’d laugh.

TOO BE FAIR: old games used almost only pre baked lighting, so in your pic,you can easily tell what items are not part of the background. In the same way you could tell what part of the background would animate in looney tunes cartoons.
New games dont have that luxury, so interactive items would blend in more.

Really bad falseflag, because you're exactly showing why the paint is a thing to begin with.

These objects are highlighted by default. You instantly know which barrels to interact with becaus they're LITERALLY glowing.

In modern games, they blend into the environment to a point most people would miss them. Yellow paint is just a modern way of highlighting objects.

You can cry about it all you want, but your low IQ ass would run past most interactive objects if they wouldn't do that, because you grew up on glowing/radiating highlighting and are conditioned to find it ok that barrels glow as if they're radioactive.

Zoomer trap activated. The barrels didn't stand out that prominently in the original version, that was a lighting issue with the HD release.

The yellow paint is one thing. For me it's the numbers flying all over the place in mercenaries. When was it decided that video games had to have fricking numbers flying out of enemies and a bunch of clutter in the hud? All games need the option to turn off visible damage values.

Games are at the highest cost of production right now, meaning they want them to sell as much as humanly possible, meaning they must be able to be played by literal mouth breathing normies. See pic related, where Dad of War's devs used DSP as an example of the kind of player they base their play testing around. And yeah sure the better graphics get the harder it is telling if something is interactable definitely plays some part on it as well but in a far more cynical way than most anons ITT and beyond imply. Sure graphics nowadays are realistic but plent of games RE4 included have UI elements that highlight interactable items long before you get near them. If there's ammo you can pick up or a cabinet you can open, you'll see the prompt to do so from across the room. Going back to my point, the problem is that devs believe that *even with said UI prompts*, players *still need more*. Thus the paint.

      >he didn't install the "Los Iluminados symbol" version
Literally no one to blame but yourself. No one's asking for interactable objects to not be highlighted, we're asking for the highlights to make sense in-universe instead of having an autist throw cans of yellow paint everywhere in the world. And you know that, given the pic you posted isn't from your playthrough but rather from the nexusmods page same as mine.

i only hate how guns work in this game
i dont know why they feel so much weaker than the og game
maybe its the fact that they removed or atleast tonned down the "limb based damage"
      atleast in early game

Yellow paint is the "crate warehouse level" equivalent of hints. It's like the designers came in, sat down at their desks for 10 minutes, then threw their hands up in the air in frustration and said "Well I can't think of anything." It's rather pathetic.

I'm not defending yellow paint, but you do realize that every breakable container in the original is also color coded? Every single one of them is that same desaturated brown hue, so that whether it's a box, a barrel or a vase you always know that breaking them can get you stuff. Yellow paint isn't any more moronic than that. It's just as moronic.
And the reason why either of these feedback mechanisms exist is a decidedly non-systems-based game design approach. Everything you can do was manually put in by the level designers. There is no emergence, and you don't even get a jump button. So, the level artists can clutter the place with decorative objects, while encasing them in invisible walls. As a result, you can't use your own eyes to determine what is interactable or not. Everything you can interact with can only be interacted with arbitrarily, not because of a consistent set of rules that dictate that certain things can be interacted with whether the game likes it or not. That's why games put yellow or white paint on things. They need to tell you what you can touch, because they're deciding all of that arbitrarily for you, not the rules of the reality that the game is trying to depict. That ledge isn't climbable because it's within the reach of your character's hands. It's climbable because we said so. And that other obstacle over there? That's not climbable. Even though it looks like it would be easier to climb. Frick you. Have some white paint.

That was before capcom started hiring consulting firms made up of womens studies people telling them how to make games more accessible for women who don't like video games.

Exactly, andzoomers still claim it is good because those reviewers are zoomers, and zoomers don't touch old games.

New games are better than old games and I'm tired of pretending they aren't

what if the breakable barrels were one kind of barrels and the not breakable ones were an other kind of barrels, and you find out by playing the fricking game.

    thanks for my ted talk

I'm Team Yellow Paint because videogames should be videogames, not realism simulators. Not having Yellow Paint might make crucial resupply items hard to find in a inherently darkly lit game. It'd be one thing if this was hurting the game's aesthetic, but it's even more consistent across the board than the original game. Finally, Yellow Paint is less jarring than some of the alternatives which wouldn't have been much better visually, ie. A glowing or shining barrel instead of being painted yellow.
