Xbox got it right. Why? Let me explain.

Xbox got it right. Why? Let me explain. Playstation can be thrown straight out as shapes are just not convenient to say out loud. "What to click?" "Uh square! Triangle!" No, a single letter is faster and better. Now for the placement. Nintendo FRICKED up, why? Well you see... Why is the X on top? Is there a single good reason? There is not. Y should be on top because Y is the vertical dimension while X is horizontal. This is something that comes naturally to us. X on the left and Y on the top just makes more sense. And A should be on the bottom because A represents the primary button, the first you lay your finger on, you do not go out of your way to place your finger to the RIGHT by default. No. Xbox wins.

There are no legitimately great modern controllers. These days when first party was the golden standard are long behind us. If you are mainly a PC player it's worth looking into modern chink pads. There are getting really up there in terms of quality but they all have cons. Latency or reliability problems in varying degrees. All of them superior to Dualsense elite and espectially Xbox elite. If you want to use them with Xbox you need to check for compatibility and don't even bother getting anything else than the regular DSense if you are on PS5.
Take a look at the Flydigi vader 4 or the Gulikit KK3 Max. Do you research properly, they are far from perfect. Just not as shit as the first party ones.

nintendo invented ABXY with the snes over 40 years ago, before microsoft made even 1 game
the nes set up the B/A button layout where B is the secondary action (back/brake,cancel) while A is primary (jump, accelerate, do thing, talk, confirm), this has carried onto all their controls

playstation just copied the snes pad for their controller and made it different
there is consistent logic to it though
    O is yes in japan
    X is no in japan
and they map to nintendo's B/A for cancel/confirm

Xbox just took over the layout from the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast controller had to restrict itself to 4 face buttons to make room for the memory card. That's why they just swapped Nintendo's face button name's around (yeah, terrible decision) instead of going with A B C D in line with the Mega Drive's controller.

Nintendo always trips me up because B is jump on the standard control mapping, but A is confirm. For the two others, the most primary and basic action is mapped to the bottom button. Over time it's lessened because I've been emulating a lot in recent years. Now I'm just used to learning a different layout for each game and ignoring what's written on my controller.

    >Xbox reads left to right
    >Switch reads right to left
    Interesting.

Every game plays the same these days its not like you need to memorize each layout. Back in 5th gen things could get kinda nutty if you were playing a port but it wasn't an issue even then.

You may seethe, but the GC controller is clearly just the best in terms of sheer intuitive design
    >A is big and it's green, and confirms things
    >B is smaller and red, and cancels things
    >X and Y are grey and out of the way, because they're going to be secondary functions in most games
It's peak. You may protest, but it's peak.

I think X and Y could use some improvements.

I feel like in most GC games it just seems to fit, and work logically. Like how in Zelda, the items are on X and Y.

I was better at doing fusion in the gamecube version of budokai 2 because the shape of the button icons also indicated their relative position.

Dual shock stick placement > xbox
    Xbox triggers > DS
    DS BUMPERS > Xbox
the actual sticks themselves Xbox > DS
    Xbox start/select > DS
    THE DUKE's grip = DS handles > 360 onward

I never touched a 'classic' controller from nintendo, but aside from button size the actual GC controllers were made to mash. Also I wish we had more controller sticks with gate options for fighting game gays.

None of this matter at all at the end of the day Right is for interacting, left is for cancelling, down is for jump ant up is for specials most of the time

Xbox established theirs last and have no games worth a damn since like 2008. I don't care if they're "right" or not, what they aren't is relevant.

    >Y should be on top because Y is the vertical dimension while X is horizontal. This is something that comes naturally to us.
I can promise you this has never come naturally to anyone but you. But you are at least correct on the placement simply because XY going right to left is more natural and easier for inexperienced players to remember. And while you're correct about Nintendo's AB placement, the logic for it is simply because the placement was inherited from older controllers in which the rightmost placement was more natural while being held.

If it was right to left on the NES, why didn't they do the same with the 1 and 2 buttons on the Wii?

    >Why is the X on top
I assume because Japanese read right to left, while we read left to right. They probably think the Xbox controller is the one that is backwards

Xbox and Nintendo make sense. Playstation is like the failed abortion knock off of them. Also all games on PC support the xbox layout by default which makes ABXY the gaming standard.
