It was a comfy story experience because it was much better paced than ARR. Of course there's ups/downs, a major down being how much of a shitshow the raiding scene was. But hey, I found a new niche back in 2016.

Almost, but nah. They went crazy with the wall bosses this expansion which suck hard. Dungeons were great and gameplay changes were a good balance between the jank-but-interesting ideas before it and the QoL and accessibility direction going forward.

All dungeons are dogshit.
Absolutely no expansion that has multiple wall bosses deserves "Best Trials." Wall bosses are lame design and you're part of the reason CBU3 standardizes boredom.
I like boss-positioning as a strategic and tactical elements and I think it's core to this style of MMO fight design. Leaning more on the side of immobile bosses is super dull to me. You can do cool wall-bosses, but keep them limited.
Amaurot is one of the worst dungeons in the entire game. You shadowbabies are pathetic. None of the bosses are good. The trash just teleport on you in the first two thirds of it. It fricking sucks.
The telporting ones are the worst. If everyone is sprinting you can just run past them without them spawning, then you have to slowly walk back and grab them.

Heavensward is still the best expansion and the only time the game had something of a skill ceiling. Lot of people who hate on HW are people are shadowbabies or endbryos who LARP as if they were there at the expansion.

The biggest problem is that American VA's aren't actors they just typically do silly voices then get hired for roles. The EU VA's tend to be autistic stage actors that have actually read some literature because it's required to actually understand and study it to even get to where they are. I imagine in the US it's some frankenstein abortion of an education given how Universities over there are basically different variations of 'social science' which is just a code word for pumping out philistines that hate their own culture.

At this point it seems the VA are all from streaming and the like. Brits are all stage actors and have some depth at lease since there are so many stage actors.
JP has the same since its treated like a real job.
US just has the same handful of people doing nearly the same vocla ranges for young and old alike and while they can by typeast to rolls most VA probably off reading books for audible since it offers better pay with less whiny buttholes to worry about.
I don't know how people can seriously suggest this. The JP acting sucks. Compare "At the end of everything, I find you my friend." in english and jap. It's no contest. Zenos english va is great.
JP VA has another problem too, and it's exactly the same issue I have with anime dubs.

Been playing Dragon Quest X recently and every quest at least had me fighting one group of monsters. Went back to xiv to play the xvi crossover and it was text text and more text, zoom in on the environment to find clive, walk through a zone with clive.

MRD/WAR aint *much* better, but at least you achieve something. The PLD job quests themselves admit you wasted your time.
And then 61-70 is just some random gladiator tournament arc.
The game gives you extra 50% exp gained if you are on a job below your max level job (armory bonus) and there are shortcuts to leveling you can unlock that allow you to get to something like 50 in a couple of hours. In addition to that, if you complete tutorial quests, you can unlock the Brand New Ring, which gives you an extra 30% exp bonus when you are below level 30, if a friend invited you, you can get a Friendship Circlet for 1-25 25% ex gain increase and if you preordered Dawntrail, you get a +20% exp below level 90 earring. And if you are with a free company or use one of the grand company exp manuals, you can get +15% exp gained on top. In short - leveling is piss easy in this game and is not a grind at all unlike in other mmos.

To be clear not saying ShB's is bad, I just think people default to it for these reasons. It's got a catchy leitmotif, but so much of the rock shit is forgettable to me. The way they approach their rock writing in a lot of the main themes is just fricking sleepsville,
to this day i mute all stormblood content because my ears are not over the burnout from hearing the same fricking song over and over and over and over and over to the point that i dont know how anyone can stand it. it's the battle music. it's the boss music. it's the cutscene music. you get little breaks where something different plays and then DAM DAM DAM. it sucks so bad. all the other expansion leitmotifs are done far better so i'm not worried about dawntrails at least
Got the minions, got the first mount got 4 weapons, think I'll give it a break and pace out the Yo-kai event. Finally did that Mammoth fate in Othard, first time I was able to see enough people in the Open World where we all did it together organically. I really hope they do more shit like this in future, this game isn't lacking for content, it's the fricking rewards they're lacking to push people into doing the content. This Yo-kai event is proving it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

There is nothing dynamic in FFXIV at all except for PvP which isn't very popular. Every raid, dungeon, etc is all extremely static. End game activities like raids revolve around memorizing a "dance" that you have to perform correctly in order to win. There isn't anything in the game to really shine as an exceptional player because you either do the dance right or the fight auto wipes you. There are no clutch saves. There are no big gamer moments. It's so scripted Yoshi literally had to come out on stage and say the game had no fricking stress left in it

It will keep current PvP in 7.0 with temporary PvP kits for Pictomancer and Viper. In 7.1 all PvP kits will get a huge overhaul with new abilities and LBs and all that stuff. Most likely a new frontline map or CC map in 7.1 too. The X.1 patch historically has always been the big pvp update patch for the last 2 expansions.
I don't really care about frontline but stopped playing CC because the latency and awkward target selection wore on me. I know it was also bad before but I just don't think this game's pvp can be satisfying until that's fixed, I don't even know how people can tolerate playing a melee in that mode.
Frick off, I played before the EW PVP change and it was completely dead. It was so dead only around 200 people were playing PVP in NA and EU combined. It was ridiculous, this is a classic case of you being contrarian for the sake of it. Old in PVP was not good, nobody liked it outside of those super autistic guys who were wintrading.
Talking about frontline not the feast, the only reason people do frontline now is for series exp or jerking off thinking they are amazing for sucking people in when only guard can protect from it
Only thing I miss about old PvP was healers actually being able to heal. There was something so cathartic and rewarding about being a WHT and healing your whole alliance by juggling all your heal spell and gcds. most of the post rework healers cant even target outside of your party or cant even heal directly at all.
PvP has vastly improved though and personal ULTs are great, i would not be surprised if they work their way into PvE soon.
Tips for every job in CC PvP that you should all consider
>WAR:
Your combo is Bloodwhetting > Onslaught > Rend > Orogeny > Cyclone. Dip in to combat to AOE burst with sustain, then start getting out with your recuperates to elixir and dive back in. Use your LB aggressively if people run in to stall with guard.
GNB: >Tank junction 90% of the time to reflect damage with Nebula and give yourself shields on your gnashing combo. When you LB, make you sure you have Double Down ready and only channel your LB for 1 tick and then immediately recast it for the aoe damage + stun then combo with Double Down. It isn't worth channeling for the full duration most of the time. Sit on the point like a fatass cat stealing your chair when you get up. You are the best point pusher in the game in tank stance.
>DRK:
Please fricking plunge the BURST TARGET to debuff them, not just random people to use it as a gapcloser. Your LB also is the best "oh shit" button in the game and ignores animation delay deaths through a unique handling of game mechanics that would kill you otherwise.
>PLD:
Make a macro for cover so your teammates know when you are actually using it on them. If you are being covered, you can use your elixir to refresh your health and mp, or use it as a free chance to dps without fear of dying and play very greedy.
>WHM:
combo is LB > Misery > Seraph. Save your aquaveils for teammates who receive CC so you can cleanse it and give them a double potency shield.
>AST:
always double cast your gravities for damage if you can and use macro for damage to combo with it, be wary of who gets your macro buff and you can reactivate it to heal them if they are in LoS of you.
>SGE:
swap your fricking kardia around you stupid moron. Your teammates need those shields to live and you need those shields to pop so you can get more damage. Dont be afraid to preemptively use your LB too to buff your team before going in to a fight so you dont during the animation lock
>MNK:
In soloqueue you are literally the most overpowered job in the game. phoenix > enlightenment > stun > meteo is the combo. Your enlightenment pressure point debuff can be procced through Guard and will deal full damage if they are guarded. Phantom Rush is also AOE and you can buff it for disgusting cleaves.
>DRG:
Just backflip and cleave, homie. Under ideal situations you can geirskogul > backflip > wyrmwind thrust > jump > thrust > nastrond. Use roar when diving in or to just tank stuff. Look for cleave angles to hit multiple people with wyrmwind. Also use geirskogul before LBing so you buff your skydive damage.
>NIN:
You are honestly probably too moronic to play ninja so just dont.
>RPR:
You are basically a tank and need to play like one. Use your harvest ability ASAP when matches start so you begin charging your LB right away (it shaves 30 seconds off the charge time over 15s, making it go from a 75s charge to a 45s charge which is fastest in the game). Go in with your shield up and if you get attacked it pops to heal your teammates. Save your LB and use it when enemies guard so you can fear them out and kill them.
>SAM:
Call your fricking targets when you midare, use ogi to cleave people to shield yourself. Dash through targets and aoe them with your combo for aoe pressure and sustain. Make sure to not LB people if they proc your chiten and then shield themselves as they can live through it.
All Melee players should be marking their burst targets with a 1 marker, if you dont do this you cannot complain about not being able to climb
>BRD:
Use apex asap at the start of a game to buff your teammates. Use paean on your frontline players to protect them from CC and give them a defense buff. Your burst is silence > blast arrow > empyrael > pitch perfect. Call your burst targets as BRD is one of the best burst initiators in the game (and was picked 100% of the time in CCRC because of it)
>MCH:
Wildfire > shoot > anaylsis + drill > LB will kill pretty much any job in the game. Always analysis drill and air anchor if you can. Remember to put your turret down for shielding teammates adn debuffing enemies.
>DNC:
Swap your dance partner around. You can double heal your partner for 20k with curing waltz if you stand ontop of them. Do not initiate fights with your LB because people will be looking for it. Wait for it to start and come in from the side to use it after people have committed. Save your fan dance to extend it and spin on them.
>BLM:
Your burst is 3 stack of anything > superflare > AM > burst for soemthing like 20k+ damage. You can oppressively lock people down with ice spam or if you are in your LB and safe to freecast you can spam fire into crowds to really pump out crazy aoe damage. Dont forget to dive in on targets you have stacked on to superflare and burst them.
>RDM:
Just like ninja you're probably too moronic to play this job and would be better off trying something else tbh.
>SMN:
braindead job just fricking bind people with titan and dash in with ifrit, start running back out to safety for the second ifrit hit and use festers if they are below 50% hp for the execute damage. Remember to use aegis on your TEAMMATES just like bard and use it to protect your frontline. Its a 10k shield but has a damage mitigation on it so itll reduce any big hits by a flat amount before being applied to the shield amount while active. Use bahamut 90% of the time.

It's wild to me that one of the simplest PvE jobs became one of the most complicated PvP jobs.
And this is why when you see people here who complain about PvP being dominated by wintraders they are completely full of shit and just awful at the game because you can get top 100 without even knowing how the jobs work

Remember to use aegis on your TEAMMATES just like bard and use it to protect your frontline. Its a 10k shield but has a damage mitigation on it so itll reduce any big hits by a flat amount before being applied to the shield amount while active. Use bahamut 90% of the time.

Having high defense is only a third of what being a tank means. In the context of XIV, being able to hold enmity and control the battlefield on top of being able to take the damage is what makes a tank.

Well, I think classic DRK could be well implemented in XIV. You have healing role being required for party play, and you already have skills that restore HP and MP. I'd argue for the idea of making them like Blood DK from WoW if they want to keep the job as a tank. Bad mitigation, great survivability and self healing.
Hell you can even make all of these changes without turning the game into an RPG lmfao.

Well that depends on a lot of things, I don't know what the exact job kit would be, but it could be really fun to have a buff that you can use to store all the HP you spent on attacks to create a shield when the buff expires.
If you're unable to hit the boss then, you'd have to rely on your party, maybe ask someone to put a buff on you like its a multiplayer game.
I just want people to work around clearly defined strengths and weaknesses.
In 6.1 PLD was missing 1 mitigation compared to other tanks and had a miserable time in DSR P6.
Healers could fix it using both targeted mits on the PLD, but that buster is already sketch and WB2 is right after. Instead, nobody wanted to play with PLD, despite it making mit for Nidhogg and Alternative End free.
That sounds terrible but I don't think anything can be done about meta chasing. I'd consider making a system to ease static building and reward playing with those people. That way you just find people more up your speed.
Or you know, have the devs work on the game, but that would be ridiculous huh? To update a live service title that has seen nothing but growth in a decade.

Well, if it helps I've played the game since the end of heavenward but the only reason I didn't raid this entire time is because combat has always felt mediocre to me.
I have other games I play for difficult content, progression, classes with identity that don't require a sub and don't waste my time.
I've been subbed for 1.5k days and most of that time was spent doing RP and MSQ on alts because that's the only thing that kept me around in this mediocre game.

TOP is physically impossible with bad mit. Solar Ray high roll will kill you through a full kitchen sink if you sre missing 1 reprisal and the P6 busters not only hit like a truck but also punish you with a wipe.

Usually in WoW tanks have some buffs to mitigate damage but most of the time their basic buttons exist to actively make sure they stay alive
If jobs had more utility maybe someone could whip up shell and protect for those phases. I don't know, there are so many ways this could be done but instead they design every job like it's a single player game.

I like boss-positioning as a strategic and tactical elements and I think it's core to this style of MMO fight design. Leaning more on the side of immobile bosses is super dull to me. You can do cool wall-bosses, but keep them limited.

Amaurot is one of the worst dungeons in the entire game. You shadowbabies are pathetic. None of the bosses are good. The trash just teleport on you in the first two thirds of it. It fricking sucks.
The telporting ones are the worst. If everyone is sprinting you can just run past them without them spawning, then you have to slowly walk back and grab them.

The EU VA's tend to be autistic stage actors that have actually read some literature because it's required to actually understand and study it to even get to where they are. I imagine in the US it's some frankenstein abortion of an education given how Universities over there are basically different variations of 'social science' which is just a code word for pumping out philistines that hate their own culture.

The game gives you extra 50% exp gained if you are on a job below your max level job (armory bonus) and there are shortcuts to leveling you can unlock that allow you to get to something like 50 in a couple of hours. In addition to that, if you complete tutorial quests, you can unlock the Brand New Ring, which gives you an extra 30% exp bonus when you are below level 30, if a friend invited you, you can get a Friendship Circlet for 1-25 25% ex gain increase and if you preordered Dawntrail, you get a +20% exp below level 90 earring. And if you are with a free company or use one of the grand company exp manuals, you can get +15% exp gained on top. In short - leveling is piss easy in this game and is not a grind at all unlike in other mmos.

There is nothing dynamic in FFXIV at all except for PvP which isn't very popular. Every raid, dungeon, etc is all extremely static. End game activities like raids revolve around memorizing a "dance" that you have to perform correctly in order to win. There isn't anything in the game to really shine as an exceptional player because you either do the dance right or the fight auto wipes you. There are no clutch saves. There are no big gamer moments. It's so scripted Yoshi literally had to come out on stage and say the game had no fricking stress left in it

It will keep current PvP in 7.0 with temporary PvP kits for Pictomancer and Viper. In 7.1 all PvP kits will get a huge overhaul with new abilities and LBs and all that stuff. Most likely a new frontline map or CC map in 7.1 too. The X.1 patch historically has always been the big pvp update patch for the last 2 expansions.
I don't really care about frontline but stopped playing CC because the latency and awkward target selection wore on me. I know it was also bad before but I just don't think this game's pvp can be satisfying until that's fixed, I don't even know how people can tolerate playing a melee in that mode.
Frick off, I played before the EW PVP change and it was completely dead. It was so dead only around 200 people were playing PVP in NA and EU combined. Only thing I miss about old PvP was healers actually being able to heal. There was something so cathartic and rewarding about being a WHT and healing your whole alliance by juggling all your heal spell and gcds. most of the post rework healers cant even target outside of your party or cant even heal directly at all.
PvP has vastly improved though and personal ULTs are great, i would not be surprised if they work their way into PvE soon.
It would be nice to have our own personal LBs but I could see it being balance nightmare

Tips for every job in CC PvP that you should all consider
>WAR:
Your combo is Bloodwhetting > Onslaught > Rend > Orogeny > Cyclone. Dip in to combat to AOE burst with sustain, then start getting out with your recuperates to elixir and dive back in. Use your LB aggressively if people run in to stall with guard.
GNB:
>Tank junction 90% of the time to reflect damage with Nebula and give yourself shields on your gnashing combo. When you LB, make you sure you have Double Down ready and only channel your LB for 1 tick and then immediately recast it for the aoe damage + stun then combo with Double Down. It isn't worth channeling for the full duration most of the time. Sit on the point like a fatass cat stealing your chair when you get up. You are the best point pusher in the game in tank stance.
>DRK:
Please fricking plunge the BURST TARGET to debuff them, not just random people to use it as a gapcloser. Your LB also is the best "oh shit" button in the game and ignores animation delay deaths through a unique handling of game mechanics that would kill you otherwise.
>PLD:
Make a macro for cover so your teammates know when you are actually using it on them. If you are being covered, you can use your elixir to refresh your health and mp, or use it as a free chance to dps without fear of dying and play very greedy.
>WHM:
combo is LB > Misery > Seraph. Save your aquaveils for teammates who receive CC so you can cleanse it and give them a double potency shield.
>AST:
always double cast your gravities for damage if you can and use macro for damage to combo with it, be wary of who gets your macro buff and you can reactivate it to heal them if they are in LoS of you.
>SGE:
swap your fricking kardia around you stupid moron. Your teammates need those shields to live and you need those shields to pop so you can get more damage. Dont be afraid to preemptively use your LB too to buff your team before going in to a fight so you dont during the animation lock

In soloqueue you are literally the most overpowered job in the game. phoenix > enlightenment > stun > meteo is the combo. Your enlightenment pressure point debuff can be procced through Guard and will deal full damage if they are guarded. Phantom Rush is also AOE and you can buff it for disgusting cleaves.
>DRG:
Just backflip and cleave, homie. Under ideal situations you can geirskogul > backflip > wyrmwind thrust > jump > thrust > nastrond. Use roar when diving in or to just tank stuff. Look for cleave angles to hit multiple people with wyrmwind. Also use geirskogul before LBing so you buff your skydive damage.
>NIN:
You are honestly probably too moronic to play ninja so just dont.
>RPR:
You are basically a tank and need to play like one. Use your harvest ability ASAP when matches start so you begin charging your LB right away (it shaves 30 seconds off the charge time over 15s, making it go from a 75s charge to a 45s charge which is fastest in the game). Go in with your shield up and if you get attacked it pops to heal your teammates. Save your LB and use it when enemies guard so you can fear them out and kill them.
>SAM:
Call your fricking targets when you midare, use ogi to cleave people to shield yourself. Dash through targets and aoe them with your combo for aoe pressure and sustain. Make sure to not LB people if they proc your chiten and then shield themselves as they can live through it.
All Melee players should be marking their burst targets with a 1 marker, if you dont do this you cannot complain about not being able to climb
>BRD:
Use apex asap at the start of a game to buff your teammates. Use paean on your frontline players to protect them from CC and give them a defense buff. Your burst is silence > blast arrow > empyrael > pitch perfect. Call your burst targets as BRD is one of the best burst initiators in the game (and was picked 100% of the time in CCRC because of it)
>MCH:
Wildfire > shoot > anaylsis + drill > LB will kill pretty much any job in the game. Always analysis drill and air anchor if you can. Remember to put your turret down for shielding teammates adn debuffing enemies.
>DNC:
Swap your dance partner around. You can double heal your partner for 20k with curing waltz if you stand ontop of them. Do not initiate fights with your LB because people will be looking for it. Wait for it to start and come in from the side to use it after people have committed. Save your fan dance to extend it and spin on them.
>BLM:
Your burst is 3 stack of anything > superflare > AM > burst for soemthing like 20k+ damage. You can oppressively lock people down with ice spam or if you are in your LB and safe to freecast you can spam fire into crowds to really pump out crazy aoe damage. Dont forget to dive in on targets you have stacked on to superflare and burst them.
>RDM:

braindead job just fricking bind people with titan and dash in with ifrit, start running back out to safety for the second ifrit hit and use festers if they are below 50% hp for the execute damage. Remember to use aegis on your TEAMMATES just like bard and use it to protect your frontline. Its a 10k shield but has a damage mitigation on it so itll reduce any big hits by a flat amount before being applied to the shield amount while active. Use bahamut 90% of the time.

Also dark knight isn't a tank in the FF games, they are usually a DPS. For example they take damage each time they deal damage in SOP and that's an action game.
Cecil as a dark knight is the second beefiest characterin the game, only behind Cecil as a paladin
dark knights in FFXI can wear all the tank gear but players intentionally don't kit them out to tank
dark knights in ffx-2 are tough as frick but their gimmick is that they're super slow
Having high defense is only a third of what being a tank means. In the context of XIV, being able to hold enmity and control the battlefield on top of being able to take the damage is what makes a tank.
Dark knight is known as a high risk high reward job, you sacrifice HP to deal more damage. Again nothing to do with being a tank.
This is an argument already lost with Scholar and Summoner all the way back in ARR that had little or no relation to what they traditionally do, in Scholar's case it has little or no relation to what it's done in any prior game because of Scholar's slip-shod job identity and infrequent appearance FFXI was the first time Scholar had shown up since FF3, its debut, since Libra got folded into White Magic

Well, I think classic DRK could be well implemented in XIV. You have healing role being required for party play, and you already have skills that restore HP and MP. I'd argue for the idea of making them like Blood DK from WoW if they want to keep the job as a tank. Bad mitigation, great survivability and self healing.
Hell you can even make all of these changes without turning the game into an RPG lmfao.

Well that depends on a lot of things, I don't know what the exact job kit would be, but it could be really fun to have a buff that you can use to store all the HP you spent on attacks to create a shield when the buff expires.
If you're unable to hit the boss then, you'd have to rely on your party, maybe ask someone to put a buff on you like its a multiplayer game.
I just want people to work around clearly defined strengths and weaknesses.
That sounds terrible but I don't think anything can be done about meta chasing. I'd consider making a system to ease static building and reward playing with those people. That way you just find people more up your speed.

Well, if it helps I've played the game since the end of heavenward but the only reason I didn't raid this entire time is because combat has always felt mediocre to me.
I have other games I play for difficult content, progression, classes with identity that don't require a sub and don't waste my time.
I've been subbed for 1.5k days and most of that time was spent doing RP and MSQ on alts because that's the only thing that kept me around in this mediocre game.

TOP is physically impossible with bad mit. Solar Ray high roll will kill you through a full kitchen sink if you sre missing 1 reprisal and the P6 busters not only hit like a truck but also punish you with a wipe.
Usually in WoW tanks have some buffs to mitigate damage but most of the time their basic buttons exist to actively make sure they stay alive
If jobs had more utility maybe someone could whip up shell and protect for those phases. I don't know, there are so many ways this could be done but instead they design every job like it's a single player game.
In 6.1 PLD was missing 1 mitigation compared to other tanks and had a miserable time in DSR P6.
Healers could fix it using both targeted mits on the PLD, but that buster is already sketch and WB2 is right after. Instead, nobody wanted to play with PLD, despite it making mit for Nidhogg and Alternative End free.

The only thing I don't like about nu-pvp is how fricked frontlines got when it's the only mass PVP mode. You basically can't kill anyone 1v1 outside of NIN or SAM lbs. I used to tear shit up on dragoon and ninja and now I just run around with the blob and AOE into the other blob.

I am so sick of bosses repositioning to the middle to cast their big debuff vomit mechanics. I am so sick of just the FORMULA. Variant dungeons are awesome but there is no reason to do them. There is no experimentation in gear. There is no RPG in the MMORPG. There is no thing that makes you special or unique in this game. There is no "oh my god I got the holy sword of Alexander!" moment in this game, just "I got my crit/det raid weapon". There is no wow factor, there is no discovery, there is no mystery to the game. Even with dawntrail not even being out yet, we can already predict 90% of it in terms of content
