        Anonymous

I think it really depends on what they tried to do with those textures. N64 games often look terrible without it because many areas were designed with the blur in mind.

Why? They are effectively Pinkies from Doom and nobody complains about those being too weak. Berserkers were never utilized well due to cramped level design and enemy count limits, neither of which were an issue in this new engine but they buffed them anyway.

No they didn’t, they were fine as is. Their entire purpose is that by themselves they weren’t too dangerous but in a group of multiple types of enemies they could be very dangerous.

        Anonymous

they turned them into literal cancer by giving them an attack that they were never meant to have based on level design where they were put in
literally the stupidest mother fricking thing they could have done that literally breaks gameplay 90% of your encounters with them
all they should have done is give them too the ability to jump down from higher platforms and give them some kind of longer range lunge melee attack making it more dangerous for the player to get close to them
thats all they had to mother fricking do
but the inbred imbecile moronic c**t in charge of game design for the remake went for the
        >9000 meters leap aoe attack with knockback

I like the way there is a obvious 1 to 1 scaling of the powerful weapons you get with the enemies in the game. So every now and again they can throw a horde of episode 1 enemies at you in your fully decked out arsenal and shred through them in ways that would have been impossible before. Not a new concept I know but Q2 does it very well.

they knew exactly what they did, they selected humans which were suitable for stroggification, the others were just turned into pulp and made into stroyent to feed their troops. essentially extermination factories, its like the end solution for humans. strogg where designed to resemble intergalactic nazis, even the assault on stroggos was called operation overlord.

the remasters frick up the games completely, especially the quake one

always play the original version of any old game. these games are not quake 1 and quake 2 they are modified by SWEDISH PEOPLE the worlds least skilled game designers

they completely fricked up the difficulty and ai in quake for example

          >how unpopular unreal was vs its budget in general
It was neck and neck with starcraft, STARCRAFT

i don't know where you got this idea but no, it was not...unreal multiplayer had a few hundred players, it was not widely played. period. it practically did not exist compared to quake, everyone just kept playing quake.

people have told you shit and it's wrong, sorry

So of course, it's not enough that the remaster is bad (it's not, most "boomers" consider it a great remaster that improves the original game) the original game is, of course, overrated and was never good anyway.

        >It was universally panned when it came out, son.

Remaster is good mostly, but this new expansion...
They have their chance to give Quake 2 spotlight, with all its strogg story, brown military atmosphere, levels that provide interesting environments to fight bad guys.

And then they forcingy tie quake 1 studf, which is now canon apparently , levels have their ups and down, they are vast yet at the same time boring with countless absolutely flat arenas that flooded by frickton of enemies, there is no any attempt to mix combat by good enemy types and placement combo. Peak of combat design so far was "hey here are the medics from addons and now they just will spam guards at you. It is not fun. Ammo depot or strogg prison levels from og quake 2 is way ahead in that regard.

37 year old boomer here. This is honestly the best remaster I've ever played. It took the original Quake 2 from a 7/10 experience to a 9/10 one. I'll tell you how:

    >Sped up the slow as shit weapon switching speed
    >Fixed reticule misalignment of where you bullets would fire
    >Removed all input lag from both your mouse and the guns shooting
    >Made the mouse feel fricking amazing while it was utterly repulsive in the OG, even with modern source ports
    >Added tasteful colours, lighting and shadowing effects in a really subtle and well executed way. Original Q2 looked really drab and boring to look at while this looks so nice
    >Made enemies faster and more aggressive in general, added new animations and attacks which made previously useless enemies like the berserker into formidable ones#

They really did a great job. Good on them. I never thought Q2 was bad but this remaster makes it an excellent fricking FPS. OG Q2 just never felt right to play, it felt gross, this remaster has really changed all that. GG to them.

One person was working on a PSX campaign port, though it didn't finish in time for QA and all. They plan to release it in a remaster-friendly format should it not get official approval. But I can say now that addons are not gonna happen; everything has to be rebaked and reworked a bit due to the underlying engine changes, compared to Q1 and Doom allowing them to just about drop things in with tweaks at most.

There's no traditional enemies in Quake 3 Arena, unless they straight up remade the roster from 1/2 for whatever reason. They can't really do the same and that's a hell of a lot more work.
