The drug addict who set up all of his friends for $1000 so he could buy heroin
Niko is a self-confessed human-trafficking war criminal and cold-blooded assassin, he's just a hypocrite.
Americans aren't equal to him. It's logical.
There is nothing wrong with human trafficking if the price is right, and there is no such thing as a war crime.
>t. Serb
Average Serbian male
Yes.
>GOAT tennis player is a Serb
>best basketball player right now is a Serb
Why is Serbia so good in sports despite having low population?
You are gay and war itself is a crime against humanity.
Being a hypocrite doesnt mean you are wrong
A person’s background isn’t relevant in regards to culpability in a current situation. Like, if you go to McDonald’s and you order a large fries and pay for them and there’s a small fries in your bag then you’re entitled to more fries or a refund, all the children you molested are irrelevant.
>Food comparison
>macdonald out of all the slop you can pick to drive your point
Fricking amerimutt posters
Yeah but not once does Niko frick over his friends in GTAIV
Yeah but it's okay when I do it.
>The drug addict who set up all of his friends for $1000 so he could buy heroin
he set up the squad because goran killed his friends and neighbors
Goran did, not Niko and the rest of Darko's friends in the squad, though.
War tends to be the cause of a lot of collateral damage.
Boots get buried, just how it is.
I'm always marveling at the shape of Darko's head
Serbians are fricked up
balkan villager head, many such cases.
hOW mUch dO yU ChArGE to kILl sOmeOnE?
>Darko
>Dark Niko
Dan Houser is a fricking hack
he looks like him too.
Niko can't even pronounce his own name correctly. It's Bell-itch, not Bell-ik.
Didn't they retcon the spelling in a patch sometime later? They changed it from the squiggly C to a regular C so he can be "Bell-ik."
Roman can't either, pisses me off so goddamn much.
>but it's made by westoids
R*ddit tier argument for a game of such a budget and ALSO Vlad pronounces it correctly so they know how it's done right fricking hell this still pisses me off 10 years later
I have no idea why they didn't get authentic voice actors and went with two americans instead. Considering they ripped both of them off they could have gotten an even better deal hiring actual Serbs.
Vladamir mashkov who niko was originally based off of was supposed to voice him but turned down the role because he didn't think the game was going to be a big deal. Michael hollick who did the mocap for niko ended up doing it instead.
>didn't think the game was going to be a big deal
What the frick was he living under a rock and couldn't do one search for Vice City and San Andreas? This is not like the Witcher situation where Sapkowski was being a jaded boomer selling rights to literal whos that never made a game before, Rockstar had a proven track record and shit just the star power attached to previous projects should tell you all you need to know. What a fricking moron.
I remember the exact context but all I know is he didn't want to do it at the time. Don't forget rockshart fricked over hollick with his pay and probably would have done the same with vlad so he technically dodged a bullet.
Hoolick got 100k for a year of work and he was a fricking nobody.
>inb4americanssay100kisnothing
What voice actor other than the top tier ones made that much in 2008? Doing vidya performances only recently started deluding itself it's Hollywood. Vlad would've surely gotten way more anyway.
You still know the name of the company that you can search up and Rockstar was throwing big money around to warrant a deeper look anyway. Vlad's career wasn't all that great either, he was the guy from Behind Enemy Lines that nobody could recall by name and that was about it.
Niko’s VA didn’t even know he was voicing for a GTA game until it came out.
Video games were still a kids thing back then. They still are because of morons calling the switch a kids toy, yet it's demographics are boomers and zoomers just want PS5/Series X because TikTok says to buy it.
The machine translated serbian in the game is so funny
>Roman asks Niko if he ever held american breasts or something
>Niko answers "can't say that I have"
>pronounces it "ne mogu da kažem da imam"
>"imam/imati" is the "possess" reading of "have" and not the "experience" reading
>he basically said "can't say that I possess"
I don't think serbian even has a phrase equivalent to "can't say that I have" you'd just say "no, never" or something like that, they wrote a uniquely English script/line and translated it literally word by word
How many people actually bought this game in Serbia? 20?
Yes, because Serbs and all the other peoples in that region are based pirates and don’t pay for silly games.
Probably zero, piracy in the region is worse than Russia, though I figure if they put so much effort in making other things feel authentic they could've put some effort in the language translation as well or at least avoid it altogether
i've often read criticism of IV's interpretation of Serbian language to be wildly inaccurate, making Niko either sound like a racist caricature or an illiterate child. is there a comprehensive dive into this online?
i find it odd they wienered that up so bad for the main characters meanwhile the Iyaric representation for the side characters is dead on point.
>is there a comprehensive dive into this online?
Not that I know of
>i find it odd they wienered that up so bad for the main characters meanwhile the Iyaric representation for the side characters is dead on point.
Lmao I thought it was an exaggerated parody, but I guess it was easier to get a hold of VAs and consultants for those than for serbian in America/Britain
Or they thought no one would care, as Peter Stormare put it talking about the various eastern european villains he depicted and the fake accents he put on for them that the directors didn't care about "they can't tell Serbia from Senegal"
i found a video criticizing the Serbian language used
It seems it's mostly correcting the pronunciation and not the awkwardly translated lines. Niko and Roman's pronunciation doesn't sound native but there's so many dialect variations that the guy in the video doesn't necessarily sound better, especially since he's not a VA and is pronouncing everything kind of flatly and unenthusiastically. He even puts the accent on the wrong words sometimes like Niko which is strange. At the very least I could buy Roman's warped accent as an "expat who doesn't get to practice a lot" sort of thing.
Serb here, even the Serbian in this video feels kinda off. His accent is strange and some grammar errors are present as well
There was a kid named Darko at the school I went to. Apparently he's in a Polish prison now after shooting someone.
Darko and Niko are actual slavic names
Serb here, Darko is a normal name, while outside of GTA I have never heard of anyone named Niko. Also niko means nobody
Really? I always thought it's just short for Nikola
He intrudeces himself as niko. Not once was he referred to as Nikola. If he was then I would have no problems
He meant "niko" as in the word for "no one/nobody", he's just edgy like that
interesting, huh
thanks for clarifying the thing, serbbros
It's insane how much of a downgrade V's story was after this
It helps that 4's story felt like it was finished
>Half way through, V blows its own twist by casually mentioning that Brad isn't in prison, but is actually the one buried in North Yankton
Every single aspect of that story was so shitty
I hated how nonchalant of a reveal it was, a simple conversation in the car with Dave. It should've been a suspicion nagging Trevor instead of something confirmed that fast and we get the reveal only when Trevor digs the coffin out.
That is exactly what happens when you play that mission as Trevor. You have two separate possible perspectives depending on the character you select, the Dave conversation only plays for Michael.
That wasn't supposed to be a twist
Yes it was, and it sucked.
hey woh woh woh
spoiler alert please
ikr
Niko kills people he doesn't know for 5k at the very least, Darko killed his village childhood friends for 1k. One is a (criminal) job, the other one is a personal betrayal.
>Niko kills people he doesn't know for
Anon, it's like you never played game
You literally betray and kill people you know and who trust you constantly because you were paid
>Trust
Big word, they are work partners at best, and killing the Black person dude who is actually your friend for 250k feels like fricking shit
>You literally betray and kill people you know and who trust
No, Niko constantly gets betrayed by those he trusted. The only times the opposite happens is Playboy/Dwayne and the McCreary brother.
Is turning on Francis even a betrayal? Niko is basically blackmailed into helping him, and the rest of the McCrearys don't seem that broken up when Niko chooses Derrick instead.
Helping Francis is objectively the best choice from a gameplay standpoint, since he can get the cops off your back. That and you can barter with him for more money.
True, but ditching the cops isn't the hardest thing in IV, and you're bound to have plenty of cash by that point already, so putting a bullet in him isn't that big of an opportunity cost.
Derrick is a heroin addict and a snitch. A literal informant. Francis is genuinely a way better person, much more reliable.
They're both dirtbags who want Niko to kill the people who know what they've been up to. Difference is in how they go about it: Niko helps out Derrick out simply because Packie asked him for a favor, while Francis threatens Niko into it - at least, until Niko has enough dirt to turn the tables on Francis.
What war did he fight in? They never say where he’s from
Yugoslav Wars, between 1991 and 1995 (Niko was a teenage soilder, only 13-17yo)
Pretty sure niko fought in the kosovo conflict.
>check Yugoslav Wars
>serbs serbs serbs
What the frick is wrong with the serbs?
Lots of ethnical cleansing, and all sides. I can't say I blame the serbians for trying to keep the country united, but those people from different cultures and religions staying happy together was impossible without Tito. Also I recently discovered my country supplied weapons and military consultants illegally to the croatian during those conflicts
When in doubt, support the christians over the sandBlack folk. Don't do like the eu and support the sandBlack folk over your own kind.
they're serbs, which was a less than fun place to be in the 90's
Was it that bad?
the entire balkan region is a permanent shithole for a reason
Are you telling me all the balkan people are violent low-iq Black folk?
My man
It was pretty bad.
Not really it wasn’t a big deal
it wasn't that bad until shartmerica and NATO got involved, supporting the muslims
>shartmerica and NATO got involved
They started the conflicts there in the first place, as usual. "Muslims" are a lazy scapegoat, moron.
>Serbians couldn't just stop genociding Bosnians
Very easy situation to avoid.
>started the bloodiest conflict on the continent since the WWII and committed literal genocide
>western powers drop bombs on their heads to make them stop
>reeeeeee why did shartmerica have to get involved, reeeeee just leave us alone, reeeee muslims, reeeee muh greater serbia
Reminder, kids: Serbs and Russians are the Black folk of Slavs. Never trust them.
Thanks, glowie.
i don't mean to bring undue attention to the thread, but why did they go in and bomb everyone involved back then, yet try their damnedest to avoid getting dragged into the current day conflict (despite extensively supporting one side from the shadows) in east yurop? What changed?
You can't keep blaming America lmao
Yes, he can and he should.
lmao. You deserved to get bombed.
>least imperialistic american
Don't genocide next time~
>~
>NOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T STOP US FROM GENOCIDING AN ENTIRE COUNTRY NOOOOOOOO
is being serbian a mental illness? it's been years and your kind is still delusional about what happened.
The only good Serb is a dead Serb
It was actually a lot of fun but balkans like to joke about it being bad. They played monopoly and soccer to see who won
Not great, not terrible.
It was a giant bloody civil war that ended up with NATO carpet bombing civilian infrastructure into the stone age in the name of democracy and freedom.
>It was a giant bloody civil war that ended up with NATO carpet bombing civilian infrastructure into the stone age in the name of democracy and freedom.
And they never should have stopped.
The NATO bombing was not "into the stone age" and it was never done in the name of democracy or freedom.
It was done because serb paramilitary attacked neutral and UN forces during the Bosnian war, that is when they bombed the Serb side of Bosnia. They bombed Serbia itself when the serb military kept up with their war crimes and attacking of netual forces in Kosovo
nope
a whole unit of UN soldiers died because they were protecting civilians in a UN marked area and would not fight back, serbs didn't care they killed evey last one.
Jesus Christ is NATO really that moronic.?
No, that guy posted total bullshit. NATO assfricked Serbia because it served their interests, not because of lolwarcrimes. They’re not moronic at all. The West, primarily led by Germany at first, also caused Yugoslavia’s destruction in the first place by supporting certain ultranationalists instead of peace.
>Serb side of Bosnia
Then why was RTS building in Belgrade bombed, or Zezelj's bridge in Novi Sad bombed. Neither is close to bosnia? There are other cases but I am too lazy to write them all
90s Africa-tier war crimes in Europe
>Was it that bad?
>The Balkan wars in the 90s
Yeah, they were pretty fricking bad lmao.
good music tho
It was fine til the americans and NATO got involved.
>FYROM
>Everybody got off scot-free cause they just handed over all the state assets to serbia
Probably also helped that the bulgiarians, excuse me "macedonians" pretended there are no muslims and albanians there anymore
Nah.
Only undiscriminated fire, shelling and bombing of and on civilian (areas), ethinic cleansing and rape camps.
The usual for eastern europe, really.
I remember reading an account from a survivor who escaped the conflict early when they were young. It was really long ago and unfortunately all I remember was how the day was almost normal before and the next their pregnant neighbor was impaled through the stomach by a bayonet against her door.
Has it ever been a fun place to be? Genuinely asking.
Under byzantine rule and during Tito were probably the heights of "fun".
Yugoslavia break up most likely, they never expressly say it in the game but you can infer it from other things
I loved Nico's arc and story and all the GTA 4 but that end didn't feel right. Kind of sudden and a guy like this scumbag shouldn't be difficult to find at all.
They built him like a mega boss who came from the east.
>They built him like a mega boss who came from the east
Him being a loser piece of shit nobody is far better than him actually being successful. Niko dedicated himself to finding a guy that was basically already dead.
the buildup to based boy florian was kino even the side missions you did with him which is why i felt the ending was underwhelming
Niko even assumed Florian was the killer. He has skills himself, but decided to be based and live his american dream if dicking down ameriisraelite politicians. Such good characters, how did V even happen? I really took IV for granted, b***hing about car customization and planes, but god it wasn't worth it.
I like how when Niko confronts him he's doing the high pitched voice and all of a sudden goes into this gravely, strained broken Slav voice. I get the sense he was a fricking killing machine in the war, they joke about how he was in incredible condition when first moving to Liberty City, and had dreams of being a pro wrestler after the war. They could never portray homosexuality as a coping mechanism for PTSD today.
It's just good writing. That scene kind of showed that he clearly held his history in the back of his mind, and didn't think it would ever catch up with him. I'm surprised he didn't have a role in the gay tony storyline, but I think most characters could have been part of more stuff, like Elizabeta with Luiz, or Billy.
"I wouldn't do that!"
that's the whole point, they had this intense buildup and once you confront him it all deflates and niko realises how meaningless his life is
He is just like me. Woa.
It's because the "how much do you charge line" finally hits him. He's been killing people and ruining people's lives the whole game and at the start it was for barely a hundred dollars. In canon he probably decides to stop killing until the Roman/Kate death sets him off again
Both for being serbian.
GTA IV was good
But this... This was outstanding
Kino
The Ballad of Gay Tony is the last game I can remember being super hyped for and it actually delivering. That was late 2009.
A better question is how can a dumb yokel from a poor village like Niko can speak almost perfect English, use computers, and pull all the crazy shit he does throughout the game
Because it's a video game and the audience needs to be able to understand what people are saying. Imagine if the whole game was trying to decipher broken immigrant english like Jacob and Badman's scenes.
Ba mein kornr n ting, evry kornr mai kornr n ting
Roman said they learned it from some american tourists and niko learns how to use the internet from the TW@ cafe.
Well first off, niko certainly isn’t dumb. And secondly, most Europeans know English cuz they consume lots of western media
That's a conversation Niko can have with one of the friends he hangs out with, isn't it? That they were shown American 80s action movies as children to try and make war seem cool
Plus he was a human trafficker in Europe who dealt with a lot of people from all over the world, likely interacted with NATO peacekeepers, and also worked on merchant ships for a time.
His only unreasonable ability is being able to fly helicopters.
In the 90's, did NATO send trainers to the rural balkan bumfricks to teach peasants to fly aircraft?
Serbs inherited the airforce and most of the military equipment from the Yugoslav regime before it collapsed. Croats and especially Bosnians had far less to work with in term of materiel
Though I think niko would be pretty young to be flying choppers at that time, it's not out of the question
NATO didn't do shit during the war, only watch impotently how occasionally some troopers exterminated entire villages and occasionally joining in carpet bombing the local population thinking it would stop the massacres
Frick off, vladdy boy.
>sparing him and then taking the deal which gets roman killed, getting revenge and doing all the hitman side missions as a cold merciless killing machine
The Kino ending.
never trust a drug junkie.
*never trust a srb
But that was their friend from the wars
They were from the same village
Why would you betray your friends?
never trust a drug junkie, even know one who stabbed his dad
>good leader stuck with mindless incompetent goons
>Jimmy Pegorino
>good leader
Immigrant frick!
Ray is an ass but he had his shit together (he should of been the boss). I don't know why everyone hated his guts. Dudes slimy but he keeps his word. Everyone else just fricks him over out of pure spite. It never sat right with me.
Ray certainly did get fricked. Even though he was plotting against the bosses, he would of been backstabbed eventally anyway, so it was smart to try and make his move first.
You know, for what it's worth, Niko felt bad about killing Ray. He says so to Roman in an optional post mission phone conversation. He did keep his word to Niko, and the diamond deal was a total frick up, but Phil wasn't setting the world on fire either, giving the heroin to his moronic nephew.
Was the pegorino family supposed to be a reference to the sopranos? Pegorino kind of reminds me of phil leotardo.
The whole game is one big Sopranos reference. It’s basically The Sopranos: Slavic edition.
Yes, unfortunately the Alderney portion of the game was rushed and unfinished otherwise we would have had a lot more Sopranos-kino in the game.
Basically the entire Diamonds plot is like something from The Sopranos. Right down to the way it ends with the bum finding them.
Yes but the Pegorinos were the actual Sopranos expys and they were very underutilized in the end. It's pretty clear Phil Bell was meant to be the last friend unlock but they didn't have time and so he randomly phones you and then disappears instead.
I never saw Sopranos as it was airing but I played GTA IV on release, as soon as I saw the Sopranos intro I was like "frick me this is what inspired GTA IV", it's as obvious as Scarface to Vice City and Menace II Society/Boyz n the Hood to San Andreas. It's immediately apparent why the game is kind of grey and bleak even when the weather is nice and sunny.
I think that's why Ballad of Gay Tony was so popular, because it was more like the classic games and less depressing than base game or Lost and Damned biting sons of anarchy.
Did you go bowling?
>You're like a lone wolf, an adventurer, tough, but with a sensitive side
>Not really bro, I like killing for money
Luis is the most underrated GTA protagonist
Why are there so many Russians in Liberty city?
There aren't, like roman said most of them stay in broker and the only ones who have a reach outside of that neighborhood is the russian mob who was battling for control over the city with the lost MC and italian mafia all while being monitored by glow Black folk/law enforcement.
Why are there so many Russians in NYC?
>Who was in the wrong here?
Rockstar for downgrading V and getting rid of IV's actually fun physics/ai
Were the cars actually this slow in GTA IV?
It's showing the cops in V won't even attempt to pit maneuver you even at the slowest speeds
The car in the GTA IV clip is going much slower.
Ok?
He's driving slow on purpose in both versions, IV looks slower because the cops aren't constantly ramming him up the ass like the moronic ones in the V clip.
They were
was so convinced there was gonna be a fight club twist where darko and niko were the same person
Reminder that the Soviet Connection was such a good fricking main theme that Olympic swim team used it as their routine.song.
damn this game lookin hella rough ngl
Rockstar was behind in graphics at the time and people often forget this. It wasn't before RDR that their games started looking good.
bullshit, GTA IV looked like real life compared to the other open world games at the time like Saints Row or Crackdown
It had nice attention to detail, definitely. Good weather effects and a satisfying day night cycle with variance. Take a look at a pedestrian through, the detail is absurdly low sometimes. Still, nobody thought the game looked like total dogs hit. The comfy autumn vibe really carries it through.
Agree. I was very impressed when I played it first time. Still looks fine.
I think it still holds up, it's obvious they're not aiming for photorealism, Niko and Darko look like cartoon characters
Nikos appearance was based off the guy from behind enemy lines.
hmm?
Do you have to force aliasing through the nvidia control panel?
It depends on the in-game weather, the timecyc.dat modifies the color tones corresponding with weather types. On clear weather everything looks fine but when it's over cast or raining the game turns to sephia tone.
Every GTA game has had kinda dated graphics at the time of release. I don't think Rockstar has ever made it much of a priority as long as the game doesn't look garbage.
GTA V looked good for its time though
>why yes, I sided with playboy, how can you tell?
Why would you ever side with him? He's a manipulative overconfident butthole and he ditches you immediately after killing Dwayne also his rewards are shit
because dwayne is a whiny moron who expects the world to wait for him until he's out of prison
what an annoying character
>gives you playboy safehouse
>gives you dwayne as a friend, unlocking his backup
it's nonsense to side with playboy
Dwayne is literally a member of the Gogobah village
>suuuuure Niko we can go do whatever youuu like
What a fricking homosexual
You have a dickhead, that's how.
What went wrong?
RAGE got updated for a newer generation of consoles so rockstar had to change their modeling methods making everyone in V look hideous.
She's still with cops?
She got promoted or whatever after that whole thing with niko in liberty city.
She's a GlowBlack person field agent now, which is impressive since she was just a civilian blackmailed into honeypotting for a war criminal (and fell for him) just a few years ago
GTA V
In general
I don't know why this bothered me so much. It didn't at first, but by the end of the game I hated Trevor and his Reddit mannerisms. Johnny had a cool voice and didn't force it. Replayed it recently, and hearing the conversations he has with Terry, Jim and Clay that probably 6 people listened to in full, really put into perspective how good the writing was in that game.
TLAD really is fricking underrated, the banter between Johnny and everyone else in the gang was top tier. Gang wars and bike races was moronicly fun. It also had a great selection of weaponry.
>IT'S OVER
>made Niko go out with her almost every day that he could
>she basically got paid to let him frick her several dozen times
All the cameos in 5 from 4 were stupid.
I honestly hate the entire cast of 5 too and hope that one of the main characters like Trevor gets the Johnny treatment
A little bit of both. Don't associate this closely with murderous thugs, and don't be a murderous thug. Easy.
Great game, but it's crazy too, and that's half the fun.
I feel like Dimitri wasn't present enough in the game to have him as the main antagonist.
He betrays Niko and just hides for the rest of the game until the very end. He wasn't always on your ass like Tenpenny.
Also Bulgarin should've been the secondary antagonist in the main game instead of Pegorino and not a big bad in TBoGT.
They were trying too hard for that realism approach. I see what they were doing with niko worried about Bulgarin for the rest of his life, then not knowing that Bulgarin dies to Luis because their business went bad. It felt like they were doing a bad tarintino type thing, but it didn’t work out. Ten penny making cjs life hell was more enjoyable
It doesn't even make sense cause why wouldn't Bulgarin actively chase Niko since he still owes him money especially after he killed his henchmen?
He wasn't supposed to be the main antagonist. The ending of the game was supposed to be decided by multiple choices made throughout the game instead of just one. Did you know you were supposed to choose between killing either Ray or Jimmy near the end?
I thought it was Ray or Phil? Jimmy Peg tells Niko to be prepared to move on either, and calls in an hour or two to confirm the hit on Ray.
Both. If I have to choose? Niko. As far as I remember, there's no mention of Darko continuing to do deprived, evil shit after the incident. Niko spent his whole life being a garbage person. There's no redemption after you've done all the horrible shit he did. One despicable incident in the middle of a war is one thing, Niko is worse.
i think niko ruined a bunch of lives before the game even started
Daily reminder that the collapse of Yugoslavia and the descent into madness and depravity started because a Serb shoved a glass bottle up his ass
QRD?
>Serb inserts bottle rectally
>Gets stuck
>Goes to doctor
>"How did this happen, ARE YOU HOMOSEX?!"
>"NO, IT WAS BOSNIA, BOSNIA SHOVE BOTTLE INSIDE butthole!"
>And then war happened
Only frick I thought you were joking but no, this really did happen. Imagine getting your dick stuck in a dry onahole and WW3 breaks out as a result.
It was the straw that broke the camel's back. But yes.
darko btfo'd him so hard he gets spared
Insane how garbage V is compared to IV
Around Polacks
Never relax
I would like a more realistic GTA game but it's not what the majority want
>you take more damage and ragdoll from getting shot
>less over the top stuff like miniguns and hordes of mindless cops beelining towards you
>more gunfights using pistols close up
>improved missions and you have to actually plan things out instead of "Go X and kill X"
IV was great in how people would soak up pistol rounds and you could see their arteries squirting blood when you shot them
why aint they porting this one to newer a systems?
probably because half of the radio ads mock trannies, same with the internet
Niko says he always liked Gerry and fricks a black girl too, who he argues with and takes anti-immigration stances. How would a really young zoomer even interpret that, like the fact a white character who the protagonist likes is outright saying Black person. Difficult to explain late 2000s political indifference.
There's also an enitre mission where you massacre a penthouse full of israelites
Man frick niko, even he admited to commiting war crimes with his friends
>"oh no i killed my friends loved ones and now he set us up??? Guess i'll spend the test of my life hunting him down"
what are some essential gta4 mods if i want to replay?
>There will be no Lazlow with Integrity 3.0 in GTA VI
Sad!
I miss Lazlow being the straight man he was in GTA III's Chatterbox
I liked him as the straight man, but I also liked his washed up angle in IV
There will be nothing only sam houser is left of the original team
It's over.
Frick this gay Black person earth
The druggie, you fricking moron.
i wondered why iv is so different than the other games in series, and I've come to the conclusion that iv isn't an gta, only has gta in it's title but it's completely different. Other ones were the first movie games in the industry. With their influences based on pop culture and their goal to appealing to the masses.
I read through iv development process, their team had that passion, soul and effort that made games like max payne masterpiece, bunch of white dudes setting their eyes on horizon and looking to make history. just like max payne, iv team were sent to new york and they took around 250000 pictures, from every inch and corner. the goal was to make liberty city a character. Liberty city is small but packed with details not big and empty and soulless like v and ton of other games. even 15 years later libertycity is still the most alive, atmospheric, detailed open world created in videogames history
The development team was told that the euphoria engine was impossible to implement, but some of the programmers managed to make it work in a short amount of time. and it's still has the best ragdoll and physics alongside max payne
Unlike the other games iv doesn't take a political side, it bashes all sides simultaneously
Being able to browse internet and reading the funniest things, a divorced women that becomes a femenist, a Guy clones his younger self and fricks him, a website that you can buy babys
people on the streets saying cigarettes are better than sex, cops begging for their mom while being killed, and thousand of other details that made libertycity absurd and tragic and realistic
Portraying gays as psychotic narcissists, israelites as money laundering backstabbing frauds, blacks as gangsters obsessed with fame and money, america as an dystopia hell hole. this game would have never been made today
Driving through libertycity and listening to radio rock while it's snowing, raining, it's the most honest and beautiful experience that you could get from an visual art
I think IV was actually quite natural coming off of SA. The character writing quality is there in both games in the mission scenes and stuff, but IV takes the atmosphere to the next level with the physicality and expression of npc's. What really fricks me up is the culture that the writing nails, inside and out of cutscenes. When you just sit there in a car listening to the news, switching stations, it feels like shit is happening. The peds that you randomly kill, they feel like strangers who exist. Maybe they are still videogamey in ways, but it's never been more immersive than that. There is also a bit of chaotic programming that allows for npc's to start fighting each other randomly while you're in a pc cafe or where ever. It's crazy how that structure somehow got scrapped.
It’s a grounded and exaggerated chaos, that’s for sure
GTA V had a tone like that too, except the impression I got is that while pedestrian/police banter in both games are meant to make them seem pathetic, IV is trying to make you feel pity and second-hand shame while V wants you to laugh and want to kill
Both are parodies, but the tonal shift is utterly massive
I feel IV was, in many ways, ahead of its time.
People were expecting San Andreas 2.0, and really weren’t ready for a grim and grounded crime simulator. Still, IV pushed the envelope and set things which have since become industry standards in sandbox games. IV popularised using the trigger buttons for acceleration and breaking, and also made taxis as fast travel a standard feature.
I feel that V’s mistake was backpedaling on some of the features that made IV unique in order to cater to the arcadey crowd. Ironic, considering that they went back in the direction of IV for RDR2. RDR2 has its own set of problems though (the biggest being the “no fun allowed” mission design).
both i guess, darko says the money wasn't truly the motivator, he talks about how the guys killed some of his friends.
Still bought drugs with that money. he deserves a bullet.
you know what's funny? you can spare Darko, drive away a short distance, and as roman starts saying ' Niko you're a good person you left your rage behind' you can turn around and run him over
The dialogue will instantly change if you do that.
They're both Serbs, there is no honor among Serbs. At least Darko admitted he was sub-human.
Praljak did nothing wrong
Why didn’t Niko use all the money and connections he earned from his jobs to run his own gang? It’s kind of obvious that Niko isn’t going to be anything other than a killer and a criminal, so why not turn that into a business? Is being a freelance hitman for the mob really that good of a deal?
He hates criminals. Talks about heroin dealers and gun runners taking over his family farm back home. Pisses himself off later in the game, asks Roman what his trait is besides being a proficient murderer.
I spoke to a Bulgarian. They hate Serbs and call them to the Black folk of Europe. Are they right?
t. American
There are no good eastern euroids, that's all you need to know.
Pot calling the kettle black. Anyone east of the Elbe might as well be considered a mongoloid squatter. This includes you ossi bastards
why was he such a bro? didn't expect such loyalty from a weed smoking hoodrat
He comes from a small, tightly knit Caribbean community. Small, impoverished communities tend to look out for people that they’re friends with, since that’s how they survive. It’s usually people like Playboy X who want to go beyond those communities that turn into snakes.
I think Jacob liked the way Niko took care of Roman. It's undercooked, but Badman has issues with Russian gangsters, Jacob is very loyal to Badman, Russians burn down the cab business after betraying Niko and Jacob at the warehouse. They're sort of drawn together.
>serbs start chimping out and commiting genocide
>they even attack neutral forces
>get bombed to hell just to make them sit down and stop
>asshurt about it to this very day
Nato should've just commited a nuclear cleansing tbh nothing would be lost
do any of you do 100% completions of these games? solely judging by the 100% completion difficulty vs reward i rank IV as one of the worst.
200 pigeons is simply too many, the reward is universally agreed to be pointless, some pigeons are lazily stacked up in the same spots. cops are everywhere and constantly chasing you down as you collect them. the anti-fun of this activity is momentarily exhilarating then quickly becomes exhausting. also shooting pigeons has a random chance of crashing the game.
doing all the side activities with your friends is just a big time investment and often quite boring. they will always call you for the activities you haven't done yet first so that makes it less annoying. do have to keep track of what you did anyway just to avoid wasting time.
stunt jumps are a slog. some are really difficult to pull off. the one i hate doing the most is the one in north algonquin next to the bridge that goes to bohan. ramp over a hill and land on the docks. whether the jump registers or not, you're going into the drink. reminds me of the one in GTAV where you have to land a jump to the lighthouse island. whether you get it or not, you're fricked.
stevie's car thefts are the only thing i really enjoy doing. you can easily find all 30 just by the photos you're sent without help if you know the islands well. however, you have to do a string of car thefts for brucie first before he gives your contact info to stevie, and there is an unfortunately large chance he never initiates contact with you, softlocking you out of 100%.
Pigeons were definitely a weird idea for a collectible— Especially considering that there’s no reward for doing them. They give you rewards for maxing out friendships, so IDK why they didn’t give you rewards for collectibles too.
the reward for pigeons is an Annihilator will spawn on top of one of the buildings in Algonquin. IIRC only accessible via window cleaner lift. the problem with that is the Annihilator is also accessible in several other locations on the same island, and the one you are rewarded with rarely ever spawns on top of said building. so the time it takes to drive there and take the window lift up just to be met with disappointment of it not being there, usually a massive waste of time. i try to think of it as an artistic decision as a big theme of the game is disappointment.
i was considering writing a mod that gives you weapon spawns at your safehouses as rewards for collecting pigeons in steps of 20 similar to previous titles. it doesn't make much sense to make this as there is a limit of how much ammo you can carry, and you can already fill your entire inventory with a quick call to Jacob any time you want.
I would say RDR2 is bigger bullshit to 100% simply because of the moronic gambler challenges and it's clear that nobody at Rockstar knows how ridiculous they are. But not getting anything for pigeons is also bullshit especially after Vice City gave you a bunch of unlocks for getting the statues.
I got to around 90% completion and called it a day after those challenges. Blackjack gives me a sort of PTSD now.
intend to play RDR2 at some point but the 100% does seem very intimidating. while i usually do it for all rockstar titles i might pass on that one.
for the three 3d titles the hidden package reward system made a lot of sense and felt very rewarding towards the player as the latter two of those titles had purchasable assets you could save your money to spend on instead.
i appreciate that there are still hidden weapon spawns all over the maps of the HD games at least, so if you spent all your money on ammo/weapons sandboxing, get them taken away, and need them back, you are not entirely up shit creek. missions always feed you with mad ammo too.
For me, GTA IV had the best story of any GTA game, but the absolute fricking worst side content.
It's nice to see IV get the appreciation it deserves
CANON CHOICES
>kill Playboy
>kill Derrick
>spare Darko
>Deal
retcons in GTA V do not apply
Niko, he'd been doing it for free like a fricking janny.
My grandparents made some 5k deutschemarks smuggling food and gas to Serbia during the war on a sidecar motorcycle
Unfortunately they lost it all when trying to launder it
does anyone still play the multiplayer? If so please share your id's
Both of them. It's telling that out of the three of them, Florian spending the rest of his life teaching yoga and packing fudge actually got the best ending by just letting go and moving on.
Is it even worth it to try and play IV through steam? Seems like they just keep updating it just to remove shit and break mods.
i work with a bulgarian and he is always grinning and smiling to himself, its kinda unnerving. i thought they said slavs dont smile much? my coworker is always happy, sarcastic little bastard too
let him cook
Is that the remaster? My god, it's hideous.
oka can someone confirm this for me? when niko talks about the kids with their throats cut and hands chopped off, is he talking about what someone else did or about what he did?
Probably both. The Yugoslav Wars were pretty fricked up.
You should look up the siege of Sarajevo, warcrimes were the norm rather than the exception, on all sides
I think that it was written in a way to be up for interpretation
How much vidya kino kino will the war in Ukraine produce? And dirs it have a chance of being as good as GTA 4?
It will take many years before good games about Ukraine come out.
There will be some juicy documentaries out very fast though considering how much combat footage there is already and probably frick tons of unreleased footage as well
Zelensisraelite forces ukraininos into diving headfirst into the meat grinder for 0 dollars ( you don't get paid when you're killed ) and arrests and detains them if they try to leave the country while he's busy traveling the world to accuse the entire west of not giving enough money to defeat Putler. So even this deal seems better.
