I've only had unpleasant experiences with other customers being rude during games, the store employees have all been quite nice to me many years. I don't wish ill on anyone.
Our local game store is really nice. Always polite and friendly and will order anything you request if they don't have it in stock. They organize games on the reg for Magic, Warhammer, warhammer 40k, warmachines/hordes, and even Tabletop Roleplaying.
Super great folks.
almost all of mine range from acceptable to great, the only shitty one that i visited once just sells pokemon, mtg and dnd miniatures
it's a big store space but it's just a bunch of scattered peg racks and boxes, looks more like a hoarder's house in organization, and the owners were just opening dozens of packs the entire time and barely giving a shit about anyone inside
>Wall full of funk-homosexualry
>Indifferent pile of D&D slop literally gathering dust, never stock anything but it, MTG, and 40k
>despite things like Battletech instantly selling out when it is shelved
>tables get preferential treatment for MTG addicts
>owner does nothing about their rotten bologna reek
things like Battletech instantly selling out when it is shelved
My game store is the exact same way they refuse to stock because they say that they cannot keep it on the shelves long enough
WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN, TRUDI
All the shops I go to in and around montreal are either nice to awesome. Owners are fun to talk to, hard working people that know their products very well. I gladly buy from them.
>shitty store thread
>post about how their store is good
>homosexual whining about muh anxiety
This board has been raped by redditors.
It was asking for it, what with all acting provocative like.
Please, you people have your own site to ruin.
Sometimes I see shorts of reddit threads in text to speech and it’s always the exact same shit:
>tell me about a time when you X
>X has never happened to me but a friend of mine…
>I don’t know about X but Y…
Just a bunch of homosexuals who want people to listen to them regardless of whether they have anything to say
Not enough material for your YouTube video?
I bet you watch that shit
Why would I flagellate myself like that?
no matter the store, the magic players always stink up the shop, and at one lgs he wont update the air conditioning so there is only one small table fan trying to cool the entire small store, so it smells like nerd, and in the second lgs they stink up the corridor into the wargaming room, god forbid the days they are so many they need to use the tables in the wargaming room, holy hell magic players are the stinkiest motherfrickers on this planet, i know immiediately when i meet you if you play mtc or not without even talking to you
I never fricking get this, I'm always impeccable about hygiene at events (To the point of showering over lunch at one event. The curse of a Canadian in a non-arctic country.). Like, what's going through these players heads? It's not even all fat dudes, I've seen a femboy at an event do the same.
I get that it's a bit intense at times so people might sweat a bit if they're super concentrating but even casual players stink up the stores a lot of the time. Seems less common now normies have colonised the space so there's that I guess.
It is fricking wild and you can never actually tell who is going to be a rank fricker. The fat Space Marine autist could smell like shit or roses and the short angry looking girl with the tyrranid army could likewise decide showers are optional. I genuinely cannot tell who is going to be a dirty fricker unless you get close to them but you can be sure that between 40 and 60% of people at any given nerd event has not touched warm water in years.
>the angry looking girl with the tyranid army could likewise decide showers are optional
haha, do you have personal experience with this?
What, are you trying to say that one could encounter actual real-life femboys at these events? Haha, that's crazy, I wonder where such events could ever be or how much the tickets may even cost haha.
I am working up to actually go to my lgs. Last time I tried to go in for boardgames night and my social anxiety shot through the roof and I had a mini existential crisis in the parking lot. I'm actaully pretty social and fun around a crowd that is mixed with friends and unknowns, but trying to elbow into a tottly alien friend group turns me into full autism mode, I start sweating to the point of a glistening forehead. I don't know where to put my hands etc etc. Might take a shot of whisky before I go in to loosen up.
Before that I went to a mtg draft and will never go again. I got btfo by some tryhard turbo autist correctly guessing my cards before I set them down. I don't know if that's normal, but I found it extremely off putting.
I dunno wtf is wrong with me. I know that since it's a lgs, there are probably 10 people inside with less social ability than me, but for some reason my head thinks being in a new social crowd is some life or death thing and I NEED to make a friend or die, when I should just chill, feel the place out and be receptive to new people. Frick I wish I had just one IRL boardgames friend to go with. My gf hates board games and the idea of playing a trpg.
Go in when it isn't busy and when you're in the mood, don't force it. Go like that a few times, make small purchases, get familiar with the environment when it isn't busy and work your way up to smalltalking with the cashier or whatever.
Works for me. No one expects you to immediately become a fixture of the scene, anon. take your time with it.
This thread is about shitty local game shops, not your shitty genetics.
> literally tucked inside a back alley
> almost no parking spaces
> the ones that are there are super hard to get in/out of
> good selection of stuff
> staff that I feel stares angrily into my soul when I enter
My LGS is just taking the piss tbh.
I knew a place like this in the middle of an industrial park. Granted to say they’ve long since closed
Ours has been open, I wanna say 20 years or more? It’s the only one in a University Town so it does pretty well despite the worst parking in the world.
That's E!, Worcester Ma?
No, Southern Illinois, but good to know that’s an issue elsewhere.
>stares angrily
Combine this with follow you around and stopping you from asking how things are organized. That's Barnes and Noble. My sister and I went to buy Goblin Slayer TRPG and the guy walked in a maze just to get to the G section only to tell us it wasn't filed with all the Goblin Slayer stuff. Wtf.
My Barnes & Noble is actually pretty good in terms of staff, but they only sell D&D, Pathfinder/Starfinder, and Battletech minis for some reason. Occasionally they have stuff like The Expanse and Goblin Slayer.
For the Battletech its likely that Wolfs Dragoons star more than likely, b&n exclusive
We haven't had one since the pandemic but one is opening up this month. Going to support them no matter how bad they are.
Same here. Where?
>It used to be a good place where I could curl up with a sourcebook and read on my lunch break and write campaign notes
>Come lockdown they shuttered and removed all the tables, nowhere to sit anymore
>Well there's the painting tables but there's a lot of airbrushing going on there and I don't want that crap on my books.
I worked in a FLGS to help build up my CV and I can say I have no idea how anyone can stay afloat. We had to close ours because some shitty club somewhere in town got lottery funding and dried up our regulars.
What I’ve been through there makes me realise how autismo the people who go there actually are.
Most Lgs operate because some guy wanted a place to talk about board games/rpgs/miniatures and are purely afloat because their rent is absolutely miniscule or they have some other way to profit
My 3rd world confectionery also sold rpg products and illegal cds
>scammed little children with cheap magic cards with good art in exchange for their rare cards
>constantly complained about people not giving him the exact amount, god forbid if something is 11 and you give him 20.
>sold photocopied versions of d&d books equal to their original value
>sold old TSR novels in usd instead of local currency
God I hated that homosexual,it has been 17 years and I still hate him. Talking about 2005-2006.
I love my FLGS. Seethe elsewhere homosexual.
Local game store is nice aside from they can often blast the AC and at least one of the employees wanting to frick me
Only issue is the Yu-Gi-Oh/modern player scent.
breasts or GTFO
No idea why you want to look at fa/tg/uy breasts
>at least one of the employees wanting to frick me
He/she/they/xir/it hot?
Speaking broadly, I wish shops had more old stuff. I used to be able to pick up all kinds of books from the 80s and 90s (not just D&D, all kinds of stuff) for peanuts and there was a big box of loose pewter minis for $1 each. Now even fricking 3.X stuff is getting assrape expensive everywhere in the handful of places that have it; I paid $10 for my BoVD in 2010 or so and it's going for $170+ on ebay and my Book of Weeaboo Fightan Magic that I paid $$15 for is going for $75.
My lo al game store is the Columbus OH Guardtower & it is pretty much perfect.
The Guardtower is probably the best game store in america
They used to be great, but went all-in on the coof nonsense.
>chasing away people that could easily be buying everything online in the first place
Feels bad, man.
Same. They are the only place that force people to wear masks in my town outside of hospitals AFAIK.
I stop by every now and then when I'm in the area because they occasionally have great sales, but I spend my time at another LGS the next town over that isn't as strict.
However, the last two times I've been there the shelves have been getting increasingly barren so I'm thinking they aren't going to be around much longer.
Overall not complaints with it. I know the guys well there, and the owner is a swell guy.
That being said, and I’m sure this has been repeated multiple times in this thread, but the smell. I’m sorry but game store owners need to take far more harsh stances on this. It’s not even just BO, it’s also just the mixture of food. When I’m smelling everything from Mexican to Indian food, there’s something wrong.
This, mine had a pair of brothers that smelled like gasoline and a pair of trannies that filled the entire building with acrid old lady perfume.
My last LGS was woman owned and they had a big sign that read 'if you stink we will send you home' and they enforced it. Was fricking awesome. Had to move and now the new place lets in the creepiest fricktards
They've shut down in person events since COVID and STILL HAVENT FRICKING OPENED
FRICK YOU ROGUE'S GALLERY COMICS AND GAMES
They’re probably Asians. Only ones that still act like it’s March 2020
they bought the vape shop out next door two years ago and the MTG & 40k players and their odors are corralled out of the main part of the shop so I can go to the store on a Friday night and not have to shout to be heard (parking is still fricked but whatever)
they have a swanky gaming table for RPG games in the back. real nice, cupholders, nice wood finish. makes me want one till I see the price for them.
rpg section is lackluster with mostly 5e stuff and the rest are a potpourri of expected big games(cyberpunk, pathfinder), flavor of the month (power rangers, fallout) and CURRENT YEAR shelf fillers(thirsty sword lesbians). at least they started stocking paints that aren't citadel. 40k has an entire corner to itself standard fare and prices yawn.
GREAT SALES tho. got Mansions of Madness 2e for $65(they like to do giftwrapped mystery boxes but they told which one it was) and 75% off omnibus comics last holiday
employees range from total bros to chill
>I bought a board game for $65, what a steal!
the MSRP $110 so yeah I think it was a good deal
>rpg section is lackluster with mostly 5e
this is such a pain. Every time i go into mine it's the same shit with 40k codex stuff squeezed into the shelves. The only other stuff they have is Legend of the Five rings and a single copy of the ROOT RPG that never sells. I wish LGS had better selections for ttrpgs because im sick of ordering online of sifting through the internet to find pdfs
The worst one in town went out of business about 6 months ago. It was kind of inevitable given that the owner was a washed-up sports-obsessed dudebro who was openly contemptuous of the /tg/ shit he stocked and his patrons. He originally wanted to open a sports memorabilia shop, and only begrudgingly stocked Magic and wargaming stuff when he realized the market for signed jerseys and hockey cards wasn't big enough to sustain a brick and mortar shop. He seemed pretty resentful that his shop ended up being "that LGS that happens to also sell some sports crap". It didn't help that some of the employees at the shop were pretty c**ty aspies who clearly had some social issues. Overall just a really uninviting place to shop and play, the only thing it had going for it was a good waterfront location.
The LGS I regularly visit used to have one really nasty narcissist who was essentially singlehandedly running the business into the ground: basically he had his little clique of a few other people who sucked up to him, and anyone who displeased them in any way ended up being banned for exaggerated or even made-up transgressions by this employee. The owner is this nice old guy who had stopped with the hands-on running of the store, and that's when it started. Before this, most events would regularly fill out all their tables, be it for drafts, Standard, or casual EDH night. In about a year, most events were lucky to fire because this single employee had created such a negative atmosphere in there after rapid-fire banning like 30 people.
Eventually the owner caught on and fired the guy, and reversed all the bans he had made. That was about 5 years ago now and it's only in the past few months or so that attendance has gotten back to pre-dark times numbers.
I had the displeasure of visiting one
>store layout was essentially just a long hallway
>store regulars were either autists that derped yugioh or anime waifu card games or degenerates of society that frankly shouldn't have been let out of prison
>owner's pet dog allowed to roam free; layer of dog hair on everything
>stock was woefully outdated to the point of being faded
>boxes of unsorted cards everywhere; could basically pocket a handful whenever you wanted
>the owner either never showed up or sat on a computer in the middle of the hallway, playing DoTA
>when he wasn't around, the players 'ran' the store; even manned the till for themselves/others
>remark that a store like this couldn't possibly maintain itself without being some kind of front/money laundering operation
>other players nod and explain that owner has massive debts and is using the lgs to funnel money into an illegal nightclub
It's been years since I've even been close to an actual fist fight
Went there for less than a week and I was almost sucked into a brawl, twice
Bro go back and check it out. That’s the start of a real life campaign of some kind waiting to happen
A dog on the lose in the shop? Now I know you're bullshitting. Since there were layers of dog fluff on everything, it wasn't a harmless little rat like a chihuahua, it was something like a samoyed or a golden retriever. Such big dogs are hazardous, unpredictable and they constantly need exercise, which in a tiny shop they can't get.
Moving on. Dogs need to piss and shit in the streets. They don't have a natural toilet instinct like cats. While tiny dogs like chihuahua can be taught to use the cat toilet with a lot of patience and dedication, we have already established that it's a huge, hairy dog. So apparently it was allowed to piss and shit in the middle of the store.
Moving on. Dogs can't be left unsupervised in an open space. A big dog can easily open the store's door and then it's gone forever. Unlike cats, who have insane spatial memory and can accurately return to the same spot after wandering off for miles and miles, dogs get instantly lost in new environments. It's clear that you own a cat and extrapolated your cat experiences on this imaginary dog.
>TL;DR.
This story is a lie and I could tell because of one tiny unimportant detail that he didn't even have to include.
My barber has his labrador loose in his shop all the time. Sometimes I'm getting my hair cut and he just jumps on the chair next to me and sleeps there.
Sorry, Columbo. Plenty of shopowners are guilty of letting their filthy mutts have the run of the place.
>N-n-n-nobody could possibly have a dog
The frick is wrong with you?
Is this some new untapped level of hyper moronic autism?
This post had to have been written by an AI
In the future, posts will be randomly generated!
No, there's been an uptick in morons playing at being Sherlock Holmes. They think making moronic leaps in logic makes them a master detective, rather than a defective.
Worst I've seen was two patrons looking at each other's trade binders and one offered to buy a card from (not trade cards with) the other patron while inside the store. The cashier overheard it and kicked them out.
My local used to be a mess, so much shit was on the floors of shelves and scattered on the tables that I'm surprised nobody ever tripped and sued. Unfortunately the guy who used to run it passed away, and now his family takes care of it, to honestly a refreshing standard. There are double the game tables now while the store itself feels so much more open. I hope I can get to play some 40k games there soon.
Just the usual
>Board games are 20-30% more expensive than on the internet
stuff
Went from being a really nice shop with a good selection of all sorts of tabletop games, to a dingy shithole that mostly sold used DVDs and piercings. But they had a couple of boxes of MtG cards behind the counter so in the owner’s mind that meant they were still a games shop and he didn’t have to change the advertising or branding for the store.
Granted I moved out of that town well over a decade ago, so who knows what it’s like now. I don’t really have an LGS at all where I live now.
my lgs is really nice, only problem is that it is in one of the biggest crime infested shit parts of this crime infested shithole of a city. morons occasionally try to break into the store, even though it is right at a town square.
never been inside the local game store in my city, mainly as it looks like it's been closed for a decade.
cardboard cutouts in the store windows faded to the point of being light blue and white, no lit lamps visible when passing by.
at least there's a local games club here that host game nights with D&D, MtG, 40k and Necromunda, so that's nice.
i walked in while mtg tuesday or some shit was going on, i swear to frick like 20 gross sweaty nerds simultaneously stared up and glared at me for having the audacity of opening the door. it was weird walking into a building and automatically knowing you were the coolest one in there.
You were raised by a single mother.
FRICK DREAM WIZARDS
I fricking hate this place, and I will hate it to the day I fricking die.
Everything in the store is overpriced. Including stuff that's been gathering dust for literal years.
Doug, seemingly the only guy that works there, is a huge jackoff.
The place smells awful. They've put in a new filtration system, replaced the carpet, and it still fricking stinks to high heaven.
And god forbid you actually want to casually buy something on a day where they're running an event. Casually stopping in on a friday or a sunday afternoon? Prepared to be treated like shit.
And then there's the people who play there. Shitheads. Want to play warhammer? They're shitheads. Want to play magic? Shitheads. Maybe you want a pick up D&D game? Now you get weird, cliquey shitheads.
Wow, another Dream Wizards hater. Yeah that place stinks. I only pop in once a month now to buy the new White Dwarf and I may even curtail that minor purchasing activity now that they've got a gross ass troony working there. And it's an actual troony. Ugly dude with little HRT breasts, acne and a fricking Pikachu cap.
It's always amazed me how it's the only gaming store in fricking Montgomery County Maryland that has managed to survive any length of time. I wish I was closer to Virginia so that I could go to Huzzah in Ashburn.
Mine's pretty cool, they bought the old Disney Store spot and kept the layout. So there's a ton of room to display stuff and run events on a lot of tables.
>they bought the old Disney Store spot and kept the layout
How the hell do they afford that? Or property taxes?
Every Disney store I’ve seen was in a mall, and malls in the US are desperate for literally any business to occupy space
Disney™ killed all of the Disney Stores, probably because of the forced lockdowns ruining business. They’re just empty mall spaces now, if no one has occupied them yet.
Wait a second, isn't that Legends? Are you in SJ too anon?
WTF how many of you people are there, I'm in SJ too.
You nailed it on the listing. Oakridge has the coolest stock, but Eastridge has a great wargaming section. Whenever I walk into the other two I wonder why I even bothered.
How would you anons rate the Game Kastles? Santa Clara used to be my favorite, but half of the employees are really standoffish now, the mask rules are moronic, and the shelves are pretty empty nowadays.
I've been going to the West Valley one more and more instead. Fremont is cluttered, but cool. I was in a D&D campaign at that location before the coof. I've only been to Redwood City twice, they have a nice space but I miss the ginormous Mountain View one.
Oh nice more SJ guys.
How would you rank the Legends stores?
1. Oakridge
2. Eastside
3. Great Mall
4. Valley Fair
Wait... Why does this actually work really well. What the frick?
The Maus knows presentation is half of business
They don't have Mephiston Red. They didn't restock for at least 3 months. I still need it. I know there's a war going on, but cities closer to the frontline have more paint in stock than this piece of shit store
>needs red in Ukraine
Plenty of that about I’d have thought
Russians bleed oil
Nope, there's plenty of Blood for the Blood God tho.
It's probably because their clientele has been "depleted".
My local one is run by a guy who makes consistently weird decisions; it went from the town's small shopping mall-type place to an industrial unit out the ass-end of town (he cheaped out on decent removal so loads of stock was damaged beyond sellability), changed the name to something stupid and terrible for SEO, had the audacity to try to run his game night at the same time as another long established local club and charge more for it, and in a way more cramped space.
Now he's reducing discounts, launching a not great game night annual fee thing and other weirdness, apparently he also does weed on the side which doesn't surprise me, but I suspect he'll be done by the end of the year.
What he should do to save costs is run the shop online and rent the local hall which is literally over the road from the industrial estate where he currently is for one night a week for gaming, but I doubt that's going to happen. He's a weird grumpy frick who I'm fairly sure would kill himself if he wasn't doing this so we'll see.
Has a bar but only one guy working at a time, so you either need to pull this guy away from the bar to buy hobby stuff or vis versa to buy a drink.
Aren't Alcohol licences incredibly expensive too?
I once went to a bar in Netherlands that looked real hipster and shit and later i found out to my surprise that it had a long corridor connecting it to a big backroom with something like 10-15 tables and it used to hold unofficial mtg tournaments while you could go to the bard and grab a beer or snacks and come back and play. It was a real eye opener.
>gw store in my town, as a teen I get into 40k right around Dark Vengance. Redshirt that runs it was the type to literally try to hump you when you walk in
>Redshirt sees profits go up with dark vengance release, thinks he can have that all to himself. Quits and opens his own store down the street,
>practice to dryhump customers carries over to store he opens, constantly trying to sell.
>with regulars its pretty obvious what things we like/ what factions we play. I play guard. I have disposable income. Easy sell, when new guard comes out and as long as its something that fits my army I typically get it no sales pitch needed
>He goes out of his way to try to convince you to buy random things, like hey I know you have played guard and only guard for the last 6 years, but what about this Tervigon model? Or how about this Eldar flyer for the nonexistant eldar army you dont have?
>Always complaining about barely scraping by, come to find out he was selling his trade account stock at full price the entire time
>new actually friendly local game store opens across town, selling at a slight discount and the staff dont hump you when you walk in
>redshit's shop closes within the year. Ive since moved out of that town but when I stop in ill buy something at the new game store just because I can
>constantly trying to sell
Had that happen at a gamestop once. My GF and i took my younger sister with us to get a birthday gift and the fatass b***h behind the counter kept waving stuff in her face telling her how cool it is and how much she wants it. We bought a giant eevee for 50 dollars and she wouldnt ring us up at first, saying “Awww how could you possibly separate them??” referring to the second giant eevee in the store. After that she went on a three minute sales pitch about gamestop memberships, and when we told her “look we’re fine, kinda in a rush” she dropped the smile instantly and didnt say a word to us for the rest of the exchange, even when we tried making small talk while she was doing her job.
I used to work in retail, but these kinds of people make me sick
I worked at GameStop for 4 1/2 years. If you don't offer the membership and push at least a few times, you get written up for it. Shortest thing to get written up over, but then again, I got written up for not having a perfect survey score. 8 months into the year, and I only had 10 surveys filled out. Because of the low sample size, I got written up. Manager told me even the regional manager thought it was bullshit. Apparently I was one of their best part timers.
A local store near me is really barren or empty most the time - with visible markups on everything (printed box MSRP being 20-40% lower than "Store" ticket prices). They offer the "We can order it in for you" thing too but whats the point in this day and age.
Clearly its the good intentions of someone who likes the idea of a gaming store but has little to no understanding of how a business actually works.
I don't expect it to last long. LGS' are razor-thin margins in the UK to begin with and relies more on a robust web-facing part of the business. In addition it's located in a central area of the city where rent must be insane; and it's reliant on foot-traffic because the nearest parking is about 30 minutes walk from it - so most it's patrons are those with skirmish, board or easy carry card games. Barring magic it's not that much of a strong market.
I know people scoff at the whole "working from home kills the high street" but it's true. Major parts of the city are empty because all the corpo's now remote in. The only things left are discount stores, the big brand shops who run as loss leaders for their area, those pseudo-pawn shops / 2nd hand stores and coffee shops.
They do try hard though - holding different nights for different systems and run a skeleton crew of 3 people; but it's clearly hard on them (days of 14+hour shifts). Most customers are broke ass teens and goth kids who smell like wet-dogs. Their "mature" people are weirdos and parasites; whilst the actual customer base they need people like me who have the money - are kept away because you can get things cheaper if you wait a day and shop online; rather than go basedjack fomo about needing to own something then and there.
Every game store needs to follow the Argos model but instead of rows of fricking catalogs and tablets, just have 1 tablet, maybe a few stands for shit like card packs, and then use the rest of the space for gaming tables.
Anyone in their right mind will just order online, or on the tablet in store and someone will go fetch it. It’s gaming spaces that people usually can’t do themselves
>Every game store needs to follow the Argos model
So be located in Sainsburys?
For real though what you propose isn't a half bad idea to be honest. I was surprised alot of the LGS' didn't adopt a food industry style model where you got a table and then scan a QR code, order what your want and have a staff member bring it over to your gaming table.
Several LGS I know have side hustles of Barista machines or tea and cake. I could really see people using this to up sales of boosters, cards, accessories etc.
IIRC though there's a shit load of rules around stock displaying for some products. Brick and Mortar rules are really archaic in the UK for both good and bad reasons. My ideal LGS would be two tiered - with gaming on the floor below and food and product on the second floor; but it would go bust insanely quickly because most of the main "gaming" demographics are poor anyway.
>IIRC though there's a shit load of rules around stock displaying for some products. Brick and Mortar rules are really archaic in the UK
Maybe GW has rules about displaying their products. I think I heard from my LGS that they demand a certain amount of floor space before they send you more product or some shit.
But having worked low management in retail I can tell you I WISH there was some fricking instruction on displaying product. It’s fine in supermarkets because they’re all planned out and built for purpose, but when you work for a chain in a tiny 1930s building that was converted into a shop and the higher ups dump a load of product on you and tell you to figure it out- we’ll you get the picture
Yeah I hear you, been years since I worked retail myself.
Seems it varies from place to place - WHSmith used to have a deal with pen companies like Parker that product was displayed in fancy cases at specific purchase tills. Great idea, but when you have to fit that, a post office, all the art crap and then 1000 dvd's, books and newspapers and a metric ton of sweets and drinks into what amounts to a garage it gets cosy damn quick.
I can't think of another business model that inner-city LGS could follow though; the successful ones like Zatu and Triple all basically run the "Superstore or Industrial Estate Unit" approach.
The one downside is that means it's a lot harder to just browse and window shop. My LGS did this, and it means I'm a lot less likely to just wander in and pick up a cool mini from seeing it in blister. This is especially bad as their stock recording is dogshit and doesnt include half their actual stock.
Where in the UK?
South West.
There's a couple in these parts. The based ones though are over in Cardiff like Firestorm and Rules of Play which do well from what I can tell.
Clifton Road Games in Exeter used to be decent, although I haven't been there in 10 years.
My FLGS if fricking amazing.
Clean play area, proper wargame tables with free terrain. Proper lighting and ventilation together with proper fixtures for personal hygiene.
But there's only sell two brands of paint and only miniatures from two systems, which sucks.
Let me guess, Warhammer 40k and whatever current D&D line-up?
You have to walk through a goddamn vape store to get to it. It's like a small room near the fire exit in the back of the shop.
It's got one small rack of 40k/WH stuff with a mish-mash of products with no organization or cohesive layout. There's a single rack on the wall with random-ass Reaper paints that have probably been there for years. There's a GW paint rack about 1/17th full. There's no signage outside other than a store decal on the vape store door. The "shop" is probably like.... 20 feet by 12 feet. Shit sucks.
Became a funko pop merch house slowly but steadily to the point they simply removed the tables to make space for more useless and moronic merch. They also started selling lots of nerd paraphernalia like key chains, stamps, clothes etc. all obviously overpriced. They removed the comics section as well. They sell some leftover rpg books and miniatures still rotting in a forgotten corner and a big pile of dnd 5e shit in the most visible spot possible. The only other real tg thing they have, is a wall for mtg and yugioh cards, sleeves, deck boxes etc..
All you ever see there nowdays are Critical Role/Dnd 5e babies and fake nerd people that know what DnD is all about because they watched Stranger things. The owner is an obnoxious piece of shit that pretends to be semi pro in magic just building overpriced meta modern decks and pretending he;s good at the game and a marvel comics fanboy. The employers are mostly e-thots, the girl gamer type that fat 20year old nerds love to drool over and a couple of old mtg fiends that live with their parents in their late 30s and work there just to get better deals on mtg cards and make some money to sink into mtg. They ve recently been getting into cedh. Stand up guys overall.
Unfortunately the more they sell out to pop fashion nerd trends the better they re doing and are planning to open a new shop in a basement somewhere downtown to contain the grognards.
There was another shop that was actually good but it got murdered by inhouse drama and serious mismanagement. W used to play board games, mtg and rpg's there at least a couple times a week for a few years. It was good while it lasted i guess.
One store is a 40 minute drive but has a pretty great owner, has a ton of 40k stuff in stock as well. Came off a bit abrasive at first but realised it was just some fun bants. Place is carpeted and has a bit of a smell to it unfortunately.
The other is only a 5 minute drive but has almost no stock and the owner kinda just stands in the corner staring at you, haven't played a game there yet so maybe the playerbase is good.
I have multiple stores around me on long island.
>Biggest store has product at msrp or higher. Elitist attitude from staff and players
>small shop that mainly deals in TCGs can't even tell you when they have an event going on and smells
>Small shop on the south shore thats changed locations and is now mostly tables. A shell of itself.
I go to a local board game cafe for commander nights and I dont care what anyone says, it's worth the 15$ to sit down and play and get a free booster packs. The place is nice and the people are friendly. The other shops aren't worth visiting imo. Too many spergs and stinkers. Staff is moronic.
>it's worth to pay to get a "free" thing
not the anon, but most board game cafes i've been to charge around that price to play and you don't get anything with it aside from a table and access to the games they have. Getting a booster pack included with a service that is the same price as other places would be a free thing
The one board game cafe I went to had a 2'x3' code of conduct poster screwed behind plexiglass on their bathroom doors. I walked out. Midtown Omaha soys are the fricking worst.
I dont care if its not "technically free" I view it as a nice bonus on top of being able to play games with socially well adjusted people who don't smell like their piss jugg filled rooms they crawled out of.
I have three stories about two different shops.
First one was when I got dragged to a MTG night by some friends to hang out. I have been out of the game for years at this point and brought some of my old, mostly white border, decks to play against friends after everything was said and done. One of my friends drew two foil really rare planeswalkers or something that was some new golem one. It looked like one of my older cards I used and I asked if we could trade after the game was done. A huge hamplanet came up and went off on a tirade about how trades are banned before the game night thing. I said that is why I wanted to trade after. He proceeded to look at the cards I pulled and said the were all shit and worthless compared to the golem planeswalker, that was the truth to be honest but I had no idea at the time, and thought I wanted to scam my friend. The store owner took him to the side to talk to him because I guess he scares off customers a lot. During the competition I scrambled out a pretty bad deck since I have no knowledge about the meta, and got some advice. One other dude jumped in to say why am I even here if I am not trying to win or know the current meta when I asked questions about why a certain card was good with the dude trying to give me advice.
Later on I asked my friend again if he wanted to trade later when it was slow, but he decided to sell it since the cards were worth a couple hundred each so I stepped back and said that's great you can get that much for them nowadays. The hamplanet from the first incident came up and started yelling over it and kept asking if I am slow to every friend with me, then tried to get me thrown out when I called him a fat douche which led to the owner having to get involved again to tell him to knock it off. He later saw me using my older decks against friends, went up to look at my cards without asking, said all of these old ones are worthless if I wanted to know, and bent one to test the authenticity.
1/2
The second shop is the shop my friends and I still go to and is generally good, but there were two stories that stand out. The store bought out of a franchise and changed their name recently because of some controversy or something. One of my friends asked why they did the name change after he hadn't been there in a while. The managed said something about wanting to buy out of the franchise for a while and how some customers kept trying to start something or ruin game nights over the old name. Then another employee and some other customer jump in to bring up how my friend was some sea lion or concern troll trying to start up something in the store again and how could the manager say concerned people were just starting something out of nowhere. They also called us old fricks who need to get with the times since we are in our mid to late 30s and have no idea what the frick is going on at this point with internet drama. The manager of that store, who hangs out with us occasionally and we know on a first name basis, threatened to kick them out if they start something again over a question. It is still awkward when they get passive aggressive over the smallest things but most of the people there are cool.
2/3 ( thought the post would be shorter)
The thirst story is when of one dude in our friend group becoming a huge that guy after the 2016 election and lost his girlfriend. He tried to start fights with everyone over the most minor things that offended him. I'll stick to the game shop story unless people want to hear more about him. Lets call this guy josh and the two friends he tried to start shit with nick and tom. Nick is and was dating a black girl, and josh thought that it was awful that a boring white guy was dating a black girl who he thought was out of his league. Josh was also mad that tom was dating a mexican girl as a white guy, but tom is mexican himself. This was apparently colonization and people dating above what they should have. Josh is also a white guy.
Josh found the social media accounts of the two girlfriends and started to dm them about how they should leave nick and tom for him. He tried posting body shots and dick picks but got blocked. The next time Josh tried to show up for game night, Nick, the borther of nick's girlfriend, and Tom were waiting and almost started a fist fight with him while he tried to lecture them about he is a better fit for them as he is not a completely boring white guy like them since josh was part nordic and native american. This was the breaking point when everyone was done with his shit and told him to leave.
Later on, he tried telling the local game store he slept with nick and tom's girlfriends and spread a lot of bullshit about everyone there since he got made over the whole thing. When all of us went into the store, someone there wanted to talk to nick and tom privately to break the news. Josh was still in the store and another fight almost broke out with nick and tom's girlfriends threatened to file restraining orders if he doesn't stop trying to start shit with everyone. Josh ended up getting banned from the store when he went on a tangent about boring white people, colonization, and morons/bawds who don't know better.
I always find it funny how these people who think so highly of themselves (or at least project it) are so painfully pathetic.
I have quite a few stories about this one guy alone if anyone wants to hear them. I am surprised we put up with his shit for so long. It was weird too since he tried to be really progressive 24/7 only to say awful, borderline racist shit if things didn't go his way. Then he would flip back into lecturing people on how to act. He also expected everyone to accept his "banter" and insults but crumpled and got mad over minor banter thrown back.
In lighter stuff, I guess the one big complaint I have is that every single game store near me only sells dnd shit, and pathfinder once in a blue moon, for any TRPG product. I really want to see some smaller stuff get represented.
Frick it, let 'er rip Anon.
I have a few. I will say in advance that is seems like Josh got a way with a lot, he did. He used to be a cool guy who helped a couple friends out during some medical/financial issues but just became too much of a dick over time.
The stories are the time he tried to dm, his board game rages, his race obsession creeping into games, the time he was truly euphoric, some more thirst stories, and his constant attempts to min max resulting in arguments. There's more stuff behind the scenes, but these are the /tg/ ones I remember.
The board game story involves the game night josh hosted. Josh refused to play anything else besides stuff he owned, and hoe only owned dominion and risk. Eventually Nick, from the previous story, managed to convince everyone to try out an old game he owned where you played chaos gods from warhammer fantasy. Nick tried teaching everyone how to play there faction, but josh didn't believe the advice and then lost. The game was immediately trash and not allowed to be brought back. Josh also got food on it despite never allowing food near his stuff but justified it by saying the game was trash anyway. Come a few weeks later we play risk, and Josh starts yelling at nick about how much of a scumbag he is for switching sides during some risk game. Nick thought it was a joke, but josh was serious and kept going until an argument broke out when he said he was glad he got food on some shitty rare, old board game.
The thirst story involves the two times he did a 180 about what he likes because he wanted to get with some girl. Nick wanted to try dming some game set in the project moon universe, Lobotomy corp and library of ruina, just for something different. Cue Josh getting angry over weeb shit and b***hing about it up until some female coworker of a friend wanted to join out of interest in those games. Josh then loved it until it got awkward when it got revealed he knew jack shit about it.
1/?
He sounds like a truly "exceptional" individual. Why the frick did you put up with him for so long?
He was a childhood friend of some of the people there, and like I said, he also helped out a couple dudes with a place to crash and doing some stuff for them when one had serious medical and financial issues. He used to be a great guy. People wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt since josh lost his girlfriend and some family died.
The min-max story is also partly because josh thinks that DND5e is the best system ever made. He says he would be down for anyhting, but quickly would start trying to make comparisons about why the current system was bad for not being like 5e. He tried to min max a character in forbidden lands by making a mounted knight guy, but got mad if any enemy brought ways to counter him being on a mount. He would freak out over losing stats when you take damage. He would try to min max in pathfinder with only ac but get furious if someone forced save checks. Any game, he would get mad if his min-max plans ddidn't work.
Josh eventually did get a chance to dm 5e to show us how good it was. However it was his first time dming and josh refused to take any advice given even after asking for advice. Nick is our mostly forever dm and wanted to try playing a monk for once since he never really played one before. Josh wanted to do an "epic" and serious nordic themed campaign. Josh was mad it would clash with the setting, so nick asked if he could just make it like a wildman berserker thing and reflavor it, but josh refused since that is not rules as written. So cue him finding any way to screw over an unarmed character for any unarmed hit done. He railroaded if anyone did anything out out of line, made spells not work if they revealed traps or ruined his puzzle, he got mad at no one buying anything in his low gold setting, got mad when no one wanted to split up the party to make money, and kept taking rewards to hype a villain over and over again so no one had motivation to look for gear.
3/4 (last story in a couple hours)
The second thirst story was a bit before the big fight between josh, nick, and tom. Josh kept trying to poison the well by making nick and tom look bad in front of their girlfriends. He would keep bringing up tom being a former cop which shows how awful he is, he would keep bringing up nick having a ton of anime/game/sci-fi collectibles and would try to talk about how pathetic it is to nick's girlfriend but got shut down quick with his funko collection getting brought up. He even tried to talk to nick's girlfriend about how bad he felt for her for dating a near incel and expressed "concern" over the offense his nickname for her, hot cocoa, could cause. Josh got told to shut up for the most part when people realized he wasn't joking, but people didn't realize how far it would go. Josh also tried the incel thing again when he realized nick owned guns and tried to talk about how concerned he was. A fight almost broke out there when nick said he would have to be b***hless like him to be an incel. After that, cue the original stuff that happened at the game store.
The euphoric story is when another friend from the group lost a dog due to some spinal issue and loss of motor control. He still tried to dm a game but kind of petered out when there was a character who had a pet dog in it he forgot about. He said something along the line he hopes his dog is in a better place where it can run again and be free. Josh said that the dog is just rotting in the ground and he needs to accept that and to stop belieivng in childish religion shit. This started a huge fight where Josh said it was uncalled for when the owner of the dog said he bets his dead uncle is dissapointed in him because josh would never demean former family members.
2/4
This is so absurd and moronic that I almost don’t believe you. Almost.
>went up to look at my cards without asking, said all of these old ones are worthless if I wanted to know, and bent one to test the authenticity.
Would've slapped that homie's breasts off for that. Shit.
>t. Hasbro shill
It can't be beat
>comic book shop
>comic sans
all is right in the world
They moved two doors down and I think they changed the front sign, but their old building still has the comic sans sign on the freeway-facing side of the store. Every day I see kino from an age before me on my commute to Uni
CQ is legitimately one of the nicest LFGSes just in terms of cleanliness and organization.
frick this is triggering a nostalgic longing in me for something I never had.
We have two. It will be funny when the nice WotC one goes under and the groggy one takes over.
>owned by a self-proclaimed That Guy who loudly watches anime on his phone
>the place used to be a laundromat and the floors still have marks where all the machines used to be
>regulars are a clique of warhammer nerds who go quiet and eye everybody who makes the mistake of walking in
>has stuff on the shelves that's been there long enough to gather dust
>lights flicker all the time and there's a persistent AC leak + drip pan situation that's been going on for months
These are the best shops unironically. The polar opposite is a WotC premium store, people crawling around the new flooring looking for loose MtG cards to get their next hit.
The only reason I drop by at all is because they sell Final Fantasy TCG stuff
>Funko-Pops take up a third of the store
>Upcharge everything so badly that ordering online is a better deal always
>Only sell singles of MTG and Yugioh
>Only do game nights for the above plus pokemon
I considered buying some Digimon packs there but they charge $2 over the normal price.
Lost Empire Games in AZ?
My game shop is next to a sex shop. Grogs choose Pathfinder over Thai trannies.
>If your game doesn't have a happy ending you can just get one next door
Sexshops and neckbeards seems like it'd be a potent combination.
Fan Boy 3 in Manchester smell of BO. Frickin nauseatin. Element Games is good, but I've never played there, only bought.
There is one near me that offers under 25% tcg player mid for trade ins and sells cards/new product for around double msrp. They never have events, I have no idea how they have stayed in business for so long.
Mfw it's a drug dealer addicted to MtG as well. Deals drugs to pay for shop and it's really a front for his own card collection at wholesale prices.
pros of my place
1. nice staff
2. good prices and selection
cons
1. smells bad
2. theyre so lazy they havent rearranged the store from covid times so you cant actually browse the products and have to get the staff if you want something off a shelf
That's normal for a good store. If it isn't a living OSHA fire hazard nightmare, it's not an real game store.
There's gotta be at least one new York or close to new York anon in here.
Anytime I take a trip into the city I hit up compleat strategist. Place feels like a used bookstore with how cramped everything in there is but their selection is generally great for board games. They have a big RPG section but I don't really look through it myself so I can't vouch for it.
Workers are hit and miss, the younger guys are friendly but there are a couple older guys who I think have maybe been doing it a bit too long, can be kinda gruff, but I've gotten them talking once or twice and they can be friendly. It's cramped, and disorganized as frick, but I honestly kind of like it, makes it fun for me to search through the shelves for hidden gems, which has happened on several occasions. Last time I was in I swiped a mystic vale expansion that's been out of print for a while which was the only one I needed to complete my set, tucked away on a random shelf.
Played some frostgrave there once in the basement a long while back, decent space, but it was just the one time so I can't really say how good it is overall for tables. Overall fantastic store for the selection alone, but it isn't super local so I couldn't say how good it is if it's the store you play games at all the time.
I like my local game store. They seem to sell things way cheaper than most. I never really interact with the staff other than to buy stuff so I can’t say much.
>asks for msrp on GW products in a town where there is a GW and also a store that has a 15% loyalty discount but just expect you to buy shit there to "support the lgs"
>"sent back" most of their older GW stock that people were actually interested in since it was hard to find so even LESS reason to buy GW from them
>Have to ask employees to search through their binders for magic singles
>never have any relevant staples
>employees act pissed off and annoyed whenever you ask them to search for singles to the point I just ask to see the binder I think they're in and grab them myself
>have a used mini cabinet where they sell built/badly painted minis for 15% off msrp
>decide to schedule pioneer days on SUNDAYS and then get surprised when only 2-5 people show up
Their only saving grace is that they carry any fricking board game you could think of, AK and other cool products that no one else in the town carries so I go there for neat paints but support the other LGS for most warhammer stuff.
They put the basing materials next to the yaoi mangas section, so people look at me when I'm getting stirland mud and grass tufts
I play online exclusively with my friends so I've never been inside but the one nearest to me is in a Black person neighborhood and is literally called "Section 8 Gaming". I think it might actually be full of Black folk, too, based on the cars I see parked there when I drive by.
Based, you should go there with a bottle of Hennessy, it would probably be alot more fun then with the smelly overweight cringy autistic white people that usually inhabit those places. Either that or the place is a front for ice or something.
Section 8 refers to insane soldiers too. Like that failed videogame. A more likely reference for a game store than housing.
Not local to me anymore, but frick Odyssey Games in Pasadena, CA. Really sucks. Especially bad because it was good back when it was Game Empire
Live in suburban america. Since you can't get anywhere without driving, there are no local games stores.
I have come to the conclusion that the most consistent factor in determining whether an FLGS survives, thrives, or dies, is whether the owner posts and enforces hygiene standards.
Absolute opposite for mine. Great little shop that also specialises in retro vidya plus I'm friendly with the owners and they let me tout my painting commissions from there.
I don't want them to go out of business we have a good group. There's a few nerds, bugmen and autists who attend but in the whole everyone is at least tolerable and there's a group of proper solid lads who create a good atmosphere.
Nice models, anon, but
>cuckmask
Fricking, why?
Near 2 yr old photo. No one wears them in there now
Fair enough. Any plans on collecting/painting the new Seraphon range coming in 2023?
My city has two LGS and everyone wants one to fricking go under.
>Overly clean in that doctor's office/car dealership kind of way, feels like if you spilled something it'd be an affront to God
>Literally only stocks D&D5e, FotM board games, TCG stuff and Warhammer 40k, that's it.
>Specifically moved to be a block down from the other LGS cause they wanted to take customers
>Told the Extra Life board game/rpg group in the city to frick off and couldn't host events there cause it wasn't 'helping the store's brand' enough.
>The LGS then hosted their own separate game nights on the same dates to try and take customers.
>You will get banned from ordering decks if you mention buying cards cheaper online.
By comparison the other LGS
>Feels like chilling in your friend's basement/game room
>Had an attached sandwich shop that made baked goods and pizzas before they had to move location (turned out the basement had black mold and the landlord didn't want to do shit)
>Stock pretty much everything, even old vidya
>Hosts a lot of events, not just FNM and D&D nights
>Amazing rooms and separate areas if you want to host your own shit.
>Owners are actually bros and don't frick you over, always willing to give discounts to regulars
>Owners deeply involved in the community, end up getting to host D&D at local bars in VIP areas and shit
The second store sounds kino. Have fun anon.
>store has no discounts, some items even are more expensive than msrp
>homosexual owner gets pissed if you buy elsewhere, split box sets with other players, or bring in printed out stuff despite him having dogshit prices. Literally yelled at a kid in the fb group once for asking if anyone wanted to split a warhammer set
>owner only cares about mtg and doesnt know shit about any other game so if you dont play mtg you're fricked in terms of getting on the event schedule
>store lined with shit like funko pops and rc cars
>mtg guys seemingly have no community despite being the most played game there
>kids running all over the shop and screeching like its a fricking daycare, one time they got into a physical fight and had to get thrown out
>warhammer guys are a bunch of rude dickheads and also WAAC consoomers that cum and paypig over every new release and competitive change and make fun of you if you don't play in their preferred way
>yugioh and d&d guys were driven out of the shop long ago probably because they didnt make the owner enough sheckels
>one guy is creepy as frick and felt up people and tries to hit on every girl that walks in but didnt get banned somehow despite multiple people telling the owner he's predator tier
>this is the only LGS in the area, would have to drive 2 hours out to get to the next closest one
>homosexual owner gets pissed if you buy elsewhere, split box sets with other players, or bring in printed out stuff
I always wondered why LGS don't lean more heavily into selling printed proxies themselves?
Isn't that literally something that would increase business?
yes it would but the issue is that most LGS owners are clueless on business and are manchildren that fell for the "turn your hobby into a business" meme
they then realize this ruins the hobby for yourself and that it is not a sustainable business so they start coping and acting like moronic homosexuals in desperation to keep the lights on
>store only does magic for card games and maybe Pokemon but only to sell to collectgays and (man)children
Fastest way to get me to 180 the frick out of the store. Well that and a lack of a store hygiene policy.
>store has no discounts
I have yet to find a store in my whole fricking state that does discounts.
One store has a loyalty system, where you get 10% store credit for everything you buy, which is decent, but if it's not 15% why am I bothering? Most of my purchases I get on ebay for that reason.
At a different store, I tried to ask if they did discounts. He waffles about, "oh, we can... sometimes, I try to do like... 10% on 100 dollars or more... we can only advertise a discount of so much..." ok, cool, I wanted two troops boxes anyway. I walk away to grab the boxes, come back to get rung up and he rings it up at full price.
I'm not quite poor enough to argue with some jackass about 10 dollars, but I guess I just won't go back there.
I don't understand these homosexuals. You've got all this fricking product eating shelf space, why the frick don't you want it to move? The store that does the 10% loyalty has kits that I know have been sitting there since 2015. They've still got the shit Eldar vs Dark Mech box. They've still got Pariah Nexus and a bunch of other old kill team shit that's not going to move. Offer a fricking discount, you fricks, I KNOW you idiots get it at 45% from GW. Why are you buying 10 of fricking everything for it to rot on your fricking shelves?
They hold good swap meets, though. Got me a Eldar Vyper for like 10 bucks, NOS.
My local bookstore sells GeeDubz with a 21% discount.
Well isn't that nice for YOU
>:(
Hey don't hate the player.
our flgs scene is actually pretty nice all around, but the local trendy toy store decided the best way to cash in on the D&D craze would be to stock nothing but extremely expensive dice and those kobold/orc prepaint sets that cost 45 dollars for 5-6 figures.
I pop in now and then to raid their heroclix bucket for kitbashing purposes. In two years I dont think I've seen any of that stock sell. I wish they had a mage knight bucket instead.
Not a game store specifically but a hobby store near me
When I found the place:
>40k is very small in this store
>maybe a single 4ft section for models, another 4ft section for books + magazine stuff
>mostly just new releases, some random stuff
>owner is a nice guy, offers to special order anything so long as you don't mind waiting GW shipping times
>30% discount on all 40k
As of last month:
>40k dominates half of the front of half of the store
>All new releases, huge selection of models
>More of a selection than the actual GW store nearby
>Haven't seen the owner since, just younger employees
>All 40k is MSRP.
I've never been so disappointed by a shop. At least they have some fun models in the display case.
its literally soul vs soulless lmao
It's literally soul-crushing is what it is
awful place when trying to find a boyfriend-free girl
>girl
Anon I don't think you're going to find those at a shop. You might find.... something else...
What's it with that slant register table Design and old LGS? I've seen that layout a ton and it always looks weird.
good way to survey your entire domain and make sure no one is stealing shit. You actually see this sort of counter setup a lot with more high priced/valuable goods, like israeliteelry or precious stones.
The shit one already died years ago
The good one's been trucking along since the 80s
My LGS threw out all the tabletop stuff in favor of larp and cosplay gear and witch supplies for goth girls. So now there's no LGS anymore and the scale model shop also closed down.
That's about it.
I have fantasized about opening my own LGS but I realize that's a pipedream because there's probably a economic reason my area has no lgs anymore.
>because there's probably a economic reason my area has no lgs anymore.
Live in America or Canada?
Rural germany. It seems like German zoomers are also ultra not into tabletop or model building stuff anymore, since a ton of shops I knew elsewhere have also closed down and were replaced by weird vape shops or money laundering slot machine casinos.
Meanwhile all the kids are doing is sitting in the city park and getting drunk/having mass brawls.
The two closest ones to me got rid of their wargaming tables because of the cold. Two years later, they have zero plans to ever bring them back. I hope they fricking die so someone else can buy the space. Frick it, I'll fricking do it and just open tables my fricking self. Fricking shithole state. Now I've gotta go 40 minutes to the big state college to play and while that store is fantastic and I hope they last forever, I fricking hate the drive.
Pretty sure alot of LGS in my city are run by hipster SJW leftist shitbags.
I love how you don't even know. You just constructed an enemy list in your head and self-isolated.
To be fair, most of /tg/ is just hermits making up excuses to be alone.
>Oh look a game store in the mall that used to house a GW!
>Walk in, MLP and Funko pops, no tables, very bare selection of games
>Owner(?) is just sitting back playing Touhou as I browse
>Dies
>Oh Boy a game store that is just one town over!
>Great selection, tons of models, great employees
>Moves like a month after I find it
>New location is twice the drive and geared more towards RC guys
>HOLY SHIT A GAME STORE ONLY 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY HOME!
>Its just an MTG store, but with a decent selection of board games
>Owner is decent but gets awkward when I ask him about wargaming
>Magic players in the store give me dirty looks when I do
>Dies during IL's lockdowns
When will it end?
>Dies during IL's lockdowns
When you say that do you mean the store or the actual owner? Because I remember an owner dying of their heart imploding due to stress during the beginning parts of the lockdown.
I don't recall reading about the owner dying. I just noticed during it that the store one day was almost empty when driving past it, and a sign saying that it closed indefinitely. Months later what was left was cleared out and even the sign was gone.
Ah ok, then we're thinking of two different stores. Thanks for clearing things ups.
the LGS is run by an 70+ year old woman who's always, ALWAYS at the front of the house from open to close every day.
she's cute as heck and knows everything about every tabletop game basically ever
Its a comfy place.
Based granny. I wonder if she's an OG gamer who's been playing since the 70s? I bet she has some great stories to share.
Just suck her dick already
A certain LGS in central North Carolina is pretty cool, opened up recently. The staff is cool. I kind of had a night where I wasn’t thinking right and I sold most of my collection and the owner told me that he would hold on to it for seven days before putting it in his system and I came back a few days later and got them back for what I bought them for. My favorite LGS.
I was stationed in Fort Campbell for a little bit and Frontline Games seemed to overcharge the shit out of their product. I tried to sell some cards and they offered to buy them for very cheap. Not my favorite LGS.
>stationed at Cambell
Ugh, How can you tell if a homosexual is air assault?
He'll tell you.
I hated Campbell and I never did air assault. My unit was super hooah and toxic and that kinda led to me getting out of the army.
>have to drive 60 miles to the closest stores
>two in Dothan, one in Panama City
>Dothan two are manned by a troony that flirts with me when I go in and a down syndrome girl that flirts with an autistic black guy who is always there
>will ignore you at the counter if mid flirting
>both have barebones selection of stock that never changes
>Panama City one is run by a pedophile who has tanked every store he runs
>ducks out of the store to have another staff member take over when a kid enters
>stock constantly rotates but is never what you want or need
I hate north Florida so damn much.
>down syndrome girl that flirts with an autistic black guy
Name a more iconic duo.
There can be none.
Actually, the worst thing that ever happened in the LGS involved literal shit.
>Some stupid guy, looked about 40ish. Would come by every Saturday afternoon to play DnD and buy a few sourcebooks or models.
>That in and of itself wouldn't be bad, but he brought his kid along.
>And basically just left the little brat to wander around for hours and disrupt whatever everyone else was doing.
>Kid got into everything
>And was loud
>And would insert himself into other people's games without invitations
>Numerous complaints, but dad was a big spender so never got anything done.
>One day, they're gone.
>Apparently the kid took a shit on the floor and started dancing around it for some reason and that finally moved the owner to boot him and his shitty kid out.
>three in my city
>one is all TCGs
>one is a Gamestop-esque general "nerd shop" with anything from dice to pop-its
>one is GW
>have to drive over a half hour to go to a LGS worth a shit
>most of the store from the clientele to the employees are grogs so it's going to go to shit within 10 years
I used to live in the Chicago suburbs and was always happy to drive out to that store. Had good times there, if they ever went under I would be legitimately sad.
Oh hey, this place is actually on my to-go list. Sucks to be south suburbs since most of the places are mainly trains n rc, all the gaming places are basically downtown
The two big ones around are great locally owned stores with good comunities from what Ive seen. The only bad experience I've had was going to one we didn't know and just stopped into. There was some kind of MtG shit going on and the store layout was foreboding. There was this little section of the store crammed up by the door with all the 40k, D&D stuff, and all the board games in two aisles about 10x15. The whole middle of the store was long rows of tables for the Magic players, and the rest was MtG and Funco Pops. I went up to the counter to buy some D&D plushies for my wife, and I stood there until eventually asking one of the Magic grogs if anybody actually worked there. The employee was playing and facing my direction. He just didn't want money I guess. I seriously considered just walking out with the plushies.
Akiba Underground in Madison CT
This place sells mostly anime/japanese stuff like gunpla, manga, japanese candy, etc. but also sells a lot of 40k stuff.
huh, that's not that far from me, honestly. although i'm not sure i want to drive 40 minutes just to take a gander
>Tennessee
>ONE good game store outside nashville (The Keep)
>All the reaper minis got pushed out in favor of Nolzurs and Deep Cuts
>Nice growing community of Battletech and KOW but little left for me post-covid
>Everything else is magic shop trash or funko funland garbage that could fall into a sinkhole for all I care
>Longtime, very close friend offers to room with me in Ohio
>Decide to look up all the stores in the city we want to live in
>Literally close to a dozen, even the worst shops are mostly better than any of my worst stores with the exclusion of a really shitty little gaming cafe
>Museums
>Art exhibits
>Model shops
>Toy stores
>Real malls
>Realize I've slowly become a shut-in for years because the only thing to do in this state is listen to country music and give yourself liver damage
>Get reduced to tears by the rich scenes and all the possibilities to make friends and have fun like I haven't in years
Literally the only downside is its Ohio.
Which city for the love of god I humbly ask for salvation from ghetto hell
Columbus. Guard Tower West and The Soldiery both look exactly like the places I could die happy in.
Cinci honestly looks pretty good too.
I'm so fricking excited. There's shitty larps and Pittsburgh has a vtm larp domain. Its ohio so there's even a huge furry scene, which is more for me than anyone else I imagine, but still.
Bruh, I hope you find jesus
We're both in luck, Ohio is annoyingly christian. Like way worse than anywhere else.
You guys are going to be crushing puss
Depends on how much they like beaners. Then again I can just look on /soc/
My olny real complaint about the local game store is the lack of variety. They only really stock the most recent d&d, magic, and warhammer releases. They say they'll order other games, but it's a crapshoot whether or not they'll actually do it.
Why do you guys go to a stinky store to play games, and not just play them at you or your friends houses?
>moves for job
Huh??? Why didn't my friends come with???
I do host games at my house but I am the only one with enough space. Problem is as well that I have the only job in the area that affords this and I have a 75 hour work week.
>I am the only one with enough space
I regularly host for 5+ people in my tiny 35 square meters studio apartment. What's your friends' excuse?
>35 square meters
Shoo shoo bugmen.
It's 2 hours and 30$ in train one way to get to my closest local game store.
Enjoy them while you have them.
It stopped being a local game store to focus entirely on manga, action figures and assorted japanese novelties.
The only other LGS in town only cares about MTG, doesn't organize any other games, only has tiny tables, and is ran by the greasiest nerds you can imagine.
Feels bad brothers.
There are no LGS here. Unless you play Magic or Pokemon. Tabletop gaming is a dead hobby.
>store owner is great, constantly positive and hyped about events
>will dig for any mtg card you ask for and toss in promos if you spend $30+
>events posted publicly and always fire on time
>regular players are shy but very polite and like new players
>varied events, actually active Legacy scene
>cleanest bathroom ever with heated toilet seat and bidet. Customers are always responsible with trash and cleanliness
>good selection of snacks and drinks from vending machines
But also...
>tiny shop, shit parking, chairs and tables made for midgets
>foreigner customers expect me to be their translator just because I say hi in english
>cash expected, credit card tacks on 5%
>it's an hour drive into the deep city
>product sometimes late due to remoteness
>only mtg focused store in the prefecture
Don't come to Japan. We're full.
Please god where, I might be moving in a few years and I'm not sure if I should just entrust all of my wargaming shit to my friends or pay to bring it with me so I have something of my old life left.
>wait a decade
>half of Japan dies of old age
>move in, marry local femcel in her 30s
Everything is coming up Pancho.
>>move in, marry local femcel in her 30s
howwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Their interior is an absolute fricking clusterfrick of a mess; delivery boxes everywhere, no room to even move between isles, not enough wallspace to have minis in blisters on display, a crapton of crappy boardgames swallow up every last bit of shelfspace, stacks of boardgames in front of said shelves, so you can't even approach the fricking shelves, kinda kills the idea eh?
The last two times I went there to get a nice third party mini as a gift I couldn't even browse minis, a huge amount of minis in blisters cramped in a box, how am I supposed to even look at them, I left sad and without buying anything.
WTF, I only go there to buy paints anyway though.
I live in a city where there are plenty of games shops, but almost all of them are soulless chains. I've been going to one shop for almost 20 years and have followed them around the city at various locations. It's a really bad show all around, on multiple levels but I still get a small sense of satisfaction for supporting a genuine local business.
>open the door of mine and youre instantly hit with odd wet-dog musk
>massive area filled with what used to be the entire range of Reaper miniatures, now is about about a third of the original quantity with dozens upon dozens of empty hooks where new stock should be good. none of it is organised in anyway so if you're looking for a specific figure you better have half an hour to spare/if you ask the owner he just shrugs and says "I think we had one at one point"
>owner is a weird autistic guy who has to get his wife or step-daughter to remove everybody from the shop for 15 minute intervals every so often because of his social anxiety/sensory overload. he will go and hide in the backroom for hours on end at times during which some random friend or family member will come and man the til
>single cards restocked using a single booster box from a set so all the popular cards are gone within a day of coming out and the owner won't ever replace them
>the mark up on the single cards is outrageous, even for a LGS with the prices being usually double what the average price is online
>people who don't know the guy sometimes attempt to haggle with him; when he's put on the spot about his high prices he will become angry saying how he barely makes ends meet and then will go out the back for another extended period
>the guy that runs the Organised /Adventurers League for Dungeons and Dragons is an old grog friend of the owner who is a total pushover Game master and will indulge morons in "I roll to seduce the dragon" type shit so the games run at the shop are really really shitty
I really could go on here. Apologies for the giant post
is a weird autistic guy who has to get his wife or step-daughter to remove everybody from the shop for 15 minute intervals every so often because of his social anxiety/sensory overload. he will go and hide in the backroom for hours on end at times during which some random friend or family member will come and man the til
How the frick do people like that have people to help them in life to such an extent they can have a business and a family and I'm rotting here in poverty, holy frick.
It was in 2016 I think. Before finding friends to play d&d with, I went to the LGS because they had a basement with many big tabels for groups to play at and the manager behind the counter told me I could just come in on Wednesdays and Fridays to check out if a group wanted another player.
Found a group playing pathfinder which wasn't hard to adapt to (I only read the 5e phb at that time). They welcomed me and gave me a premade character of an absentee so I could learn the ropes.
And that's where the positives end.
GM was a 40+ unemployed wierdo playing with somehow even wierder teenagers (13-17). In hindsight I get hard grooming vibes.
The older teen's char had two naked elven slaves on chains on him at all times and the GM was a total pushover, letting the players change the scene and rules at any time of they wanted to have a cool moment for their character.
It essentially was a sandbox campaign where a bunch of antisocial teenagers could release all their angst and cooming fantasies, directed by a failed existence if a boomer.
I endured it for half an hour, then excused myself to leave early and never returned.
If this is how people are willing to play in a public space without shame, I don't wanna know what losers who post anime images on /tg/ play on their discord servers.
I'm glad shit like CR and stranger things popularized the hobby among normies so I can play with mentally sane people with a stable career and knowledge about basic hygiene and decency. In 2017 I convinced people from my office to play a oneshot I DMed for them because they voiced curiosity for TTRPGS and we've been playing weekly since then.
>The older teen's char had two naked elven slaves on chains on him at all times
Hell yeah dude
>live with parents
>LGS is in a strip mall a few miles away
>LGS shuts down for a move for four months
>LGS opens 10 minutes from my parents' place
>covid restrictions go up, no LGS gaming allowed
>I move next to where the LGS used to be
>covid restrictions end
No, mine went out and now I can only get AP primers online. Everyone else only stocks Citadel and I hate it.
Hobby Chest Camp Lejeune, NC
>Local commerce is nothing but predatory used car lots and vape shops.
>Local population is all Marines and the govvies that staff the base.
>Dudes in the shop are all pretending that they aren't in the military
>>>They're all hyper degens
>Store is run by some ancient Asian man who always seems to have a head cold.
>Merchandise is piled everywhere. You can find OOP metal models for their original price underneath an opened copy of Monopoly:Duck Dynasty and a yellowed blister of RC airplane parts.
It's still better than 99% of modern Funko / WoTC / GW peddlers
I've never had problems with marines. They're usually nice, but some are kinda gay with each other. Its nice when more get stationed here because some times we get more Yugioh players.
I loved playing with Marines. They usually showed up on time and (relatively) sober, even if they brought a dip spit bottle and a concealed carry weapon. They are all HUGE degenerates or closeted weebs, though. It's gotta be some weird coping mechanism where they hide it all week and then sperg out on leave. Still, I'd rather have some motard with a severe nicotine addiction at my table than your average arts student.
Why are so many marines manlets? 3 of the current ones are like 5'6. There were a few more that left that also were under 5'8. I've only ever met like 4 that were 6'1+
They haven't crossed the primaris rubicon yet
That shop actually sounds pretty decent. I miss finding stuff in game stores.
Ours is a place called Patriot Games, some decent lines and a lot of minis so I like it. It's in this fricking weird bit of Leeds though so park anywhere near it and you're stuck in Leeds' one way system forever more.
I found a store selling unopened robotech model kits from the 80s for $20 a piece.
Considering they've been just collecting dust in the shop for 40 years I don't think they're going anywhere soon but I've been toying with the idea of buying one and building it.
Fricking hell I would of bought every item in the shop for that kind of price.
That's the shit. I got a small band of metal Kislev models (boyars and the patriarch on the bear) for the prices listed on ancient little stickers. It was all less than $40.
I bought a sealed West End Game Ghostbuster RPG in small rural shop like this.
I paid $10 for what is now a $200 book.
price tag from 1986, sat on the shelf since the same owner ordered it 30 years before
God shit like that make me feel like some day I will walk into a store and see Starwars toys in the original blisters for $1.25
A small store is easily filled with stench.
The only thing I don't like is my Lgs charges a door fee for casual play days
My store is fine most of the time. I only have problems with Yugioh players. They're white guys and Mexicans and are openly racist and transphobic. They're always saying the N word and other things. I've reported it to the owners but they didn't care because they buy product and participate in tournaments.
Bait.
Mexicans are extremely racist.
everyone in mexico is regarded as the same race by the government, so this is actually a false statement and you are being given a ticket for lying
Right, there's no castizo bias in society and zambos and mulattoes from central America aren't treated like shit.
By order of the government, I see 48 mestizos. Racism has been solved in Mexico. The only people that think racism is a problem are the actual racists.
I don't understand why he'd even bother to throw out bait that weak. Not a single mention of black people playing Yugioh? Who does he think he's fooling?
I live in southern Arizona. There are almost no black people here.
Impossible, black people materialize into reality wherever a game of Yugioh is being played.
There was a marine that was stationed here for a while, but that was around 10 years ago. The last time I saw one, he was from out of town and just had come for a Regional.
Its rough finding Gamestore in New England. One i went to long time ago went to became more for selling comics and basedshite. there are some in Boston but those are a helluva drive and i have to pay Mass Sales Tax. there's a GW in Portland, not big and only a small outlet, owner is a good lad and doesn't try and sell you something when you walk in the door.
Used to be some near Laconia and near Concord but they went breasts up. Manchester and Nashua ones are more for Cardplayers or Comic Collectors. Recently one store near Dover shut its doors after only a few months of operation.
>Recently one store near Dover shut its doors after only a few months of operation.
That's fast. Usually they just start pawning off their backlog of merch on ebay while struggling instead of just closing down immediately.
well the previous owner died of coof, new guy took over and it just didnt get enough buisness after 6-9 months
Refuses to honor sticker price for items constantly. Owner berates employees in front of customers. My friend group takes paints from them all the time. Frick those guys
>store has decent stock of supplies
>but only carries Magic single
>Nobody pays anything other than Commander and 40k
>Try to bring my own games and provide decks to teach and play with others but hardly anyone wants to branch out
>come in once a week to see if anyone wants to play a different game for once
>get nothing and feel like I wasted my time
>at least I get some decent exercise walking all the way out there
Maybe things will improve in spring when the days are longer and people are more free to hang out, store seems kind of sparse these days...
Feel you bro, our store used to hold variety of games but it has devolved to 40k+MtG only with the players being "GW only or bust" attitude.
Ours was 10/10 for the longest time until the old owner got cancer and passed the store to his nephew. Now the store's shut down.
The old owner cared a lot about tabletop gaming and providing a cool hangout spot. One time he was quoted in the local newspaper as "providing a venue where anyone could come and enjoy themselves and be comfortable." He always seemed to have fair prices, had pleasant staff, and the store was divided into comfy areas based on what you were interested in doing that afternoon. Most stores would charge you to rent a table or play video games, but he didn't so long as you were buying snacks or a booster pack or something.
The new owner was his nephew, a nasty normie who literally doesn't know anything about gaming or comics, he just saw it as an opportunity to make money by selling cardboard and have a job where he could slack off all day. He eventually had some trouble for selling alcohol without any sort of license and also being really gross around minors. Every single female that walked into his store he'd make comments about and if you pointed out they were underage he'd make some comment like, "Even better. We can talk now and meet up when she turns eighteen." The last straw was when he basically threw half the store's content away and filled the shelves with funko pop shit and novelty Big Bang Theory-tier shit. Now the store is a memory.
>located in a mall, too far away from every living district in the city, so you'll always have to spend 20-30 minutes on a trolley
>no way to book a table in advance by phone, unless it's a tournament
>roughly 10% of the stock are wargaming stuff, while the rest are light board games and card games
>wargame related stock that mostly "start collecting" sets and small units that lie there, collecting dust
>citadel paints cost the exact same as they are on gw store
The worst bit is that there's another lgs in my town that's 10 worth of walk away from me, that focuses just on wargames, but most of the people from my league rarely play in it because they live too far away from it.
One opened a few months ago in my zone. It's nice for the most part. MtG seems to be the main thing. Kill Team might be growing but there's not much 40K going on beyond that. Some guys are trying to make Flesh and Blood a thing, it seems neat so I wanna give it a try.
AoS is on the shelf but I've never seen anyone remotely interested in it.
Lots of blue hairs work there. Mostly board game nights. Owner makes people wear masks.
Red Caps Corner?
Nope, but I've been there and checks out.
>Ran by a guy with passion for comics and 40k, will talk your ear off about it if you give him the chance
>10% discount on GW stuff
>Actively discounts random wargame stuff, got two boxes of assault terminators for $25 each
>Healthy mix of Star Wars, AoS, 40K, & Bolt action
Very cozy
Redcap's still requires masks? I've been meaning to go there and play some of the new Battletech.
Mine only sells funko pops and Critical Meme merch and everyone in it looks like a gigantic iPhone wielding turbonormie. Half the customers are women.
How do I go about asking my FLGS if they would be interested in stocking stuff I make? Right now my current tactic is to visit more frequently and try to socialize, but they seem like a quiet bunch. One woman was very chatty though and we talked a bit.
They shut me out during the covid hoax for not wearing a mask and not getting an experimental gene therapy. Still angry about that.
shop 1
>viya games, tcg, minis
>clean, well-stocked, organized, friendly staff
>owner will beat or at least match online prices for mtg because 'why would anyone buy my cards if they can get them cheaper online?'
shop 2
>former grognard lair
>bought-out by a group of local dudes
>clean, well-stocked, organized, friendly staff
>board games, comic books, toys, tcg, minis
they both run magic cards tournaments, but they do different formats on different days (one of them even runs a later at night FNM) so they're not pulling players one way or the other
I couldn't count the number of game shops in the city... all just card games with funko-shit, all in malls full of bad smell, only a couple with board games or wargames, of which only one has good assortment (by request) and they usually play... plastic furniture full of painted GW miniatures, all full of dust, no cabinets with glass... only cheap furniture, dust on dust, almost no product in sight, game tables with bad scenery (with dust) and cheap plastic benches practically everywhere, the good thing are the prices and the accessibility of being able to take away your own printed pieces, as long as you eat a snack and one time per year buy something big... the bad thing, I need to spend 2 hours traveling to that store, besides that the activity of the place is nocturnal according to what I know...
The worst store was one that started with board games, huge events in the city with local geeky restaurants and cafes, even sponsoring Roleplay and board game events... free tables for play and good snacks
>one of the majority partners, bought and/or stole the part of other partners, taking over the business completely
>leaving the golden age of events and free tables in the store
>they opted for GW, soon after it became an exclusive place
>¨anon if you do not buy a minimum purchase you cannot play at our tables¨
>the minimum was $20 a month, and later more and more money
>They were severely whipped by the local GW community, since they treated them worse than trash...
>The gw clubs boycotted the place and ironically the covid started...
>soon after they ended up selling anime figures and gunpla by catalog over the internet
>The store is full of animu boxes and a souless vibe
>making the owner's girlfriend (in cosplay/ ero cosplay) stream to promote the store (she´s hot, but the prices are to high)
>making the owner's girlfriend (in cosplay/ ero cosplay) stream to promote the store (she´s hot, but the prices are to high)
so the owner's last resort was self-cuckoldry? Nice.
Got any visual proof of this hot cosplay wife?
I made a virgin vs chad meme about the two stores here.
I suppose enthropy eventually drags down even the best stores. You start out energetic and happy but deal with obsessive gamer nerds for years/decades, probably stop enjoying games because they remind you of work, grown men want you to arbitrate disputes like a playground supervisor, etc.
There are two hobby shops that I know of in Malmö. Both venues are clean and staff are decent.
Sci-Fi Bokhandeln
Mainly sells books, nerdshit, DnD, a small corner is dedicated to Warhammer with some third party hobby craft items, and board games.
I buy paints and hobby items now and then. They offer a 5kr discount, not even 50 American cent, on Warhammer stuff. Staff is alright, helpful but a bit unsocial even for Swedes.
Playoteket
Lots of board games, much more miniature wargaming stuff and card games as well. Not sure about discounts, only ever bought some paint from them. Staff is nerdy and helpful, but a bit unsocial. The store has some tables for games.
I'd rather have a shitty LGS than none, actually.
I live in ~105k pop post-industrial city in central Europe. We have no real university, but two (decent, though) colleges, so student life is pretty limited - young people tend to escape to bigger cities with unis all over the country. Only people you can actually play with are from group of friend (which actually seems to tear in seams more and more), and even then you can really get 2-3 people REALLY engaged in the game, with others showing up occassionally or taking it all half-assed.
Adding insult to injury, we are already 30+ and it is EXTREMELY difficult to pull new people into the hobby without getting weird looks or comments - RPGs ain't really popular (or even known about) outside universities.
Sheesh, I just wish to be able to stay in the hobby even with me and friends starting families and going about with our lives normally.
>100k
I live in a city with 32k people and there's multiple game shops here. Granted they all suck, but they're here. How can so many people be in one place, but not have made a niche out of games?
My city has 80k people. The only thing resembling a LGS only cares about MTG, and has just a handful of light board games and Warhammer boxes to pretend they're anything else than a den of card-crack addicted landwhales. It's also about the size of a small cafe.
Having a large population doesn't mean much when most of that population is old farts and drones.
Well I can only guess that it boils down to low popularity of /tg/, although board games are slowly appearing in cafes and similar venues.
Poland is so grim.
How so? Based on that picture that looks beautiful, i'd love to live there
I'm writing from italy so not a bad looking country either
I live in a massive metropolitan area and nerd stores never last long here. There is currently no lgs in my city.
It was excellent. In over ten years of going there, barely any negative memories. Due to the location, the players were mostly doctors and medical students. Not a sweaty grog in sight.
Then last year the war happened, half the customer base fled the country, the rent skyrocketed and the store rapidly closed. Not only is the next closest one farther away from my home, it's on the third floor of an apartment block, and you have to call the owners to be allowed inside. Not that it helps, as during my one and only visit it was filled with zoomoids from the local school and sweaty grogs who actually smell for real.
Local game store doesnt properly hand out promos for Magic, says theyre holding out to promote the store....
The shop I went to during my university years would do that. They'd hold the majority of their promo cards, only giving them out to the first and second, sometimes third placed player. Then they'd re-sell them a year later for a ridiculous mark-up.
Our local owner is very two faced, so our town has a music venue that’s rented out by a bunch of great guys, you pay if you play and they get a discount because they do maintenance on the venue.
Now a member of the clubs opens his store in the same town, in a pretty run down area (there have been drug deals going on every time I’ve gone to the store). Alls well though it’s cheap enough and replaces the old shop we lost
Then he starts not showing up on Tuesdays (club nights) and starts conveniently hosting his own store nights on a Tuesday but doing them for free. He then starts rearranging his employees shifts since a few of them went to the first club so they fall on a Tuesday so they can’t go anymore.
Everyone can tell he’s trying to leech people off but no one says anything since he’s the only store in town now
Oh and can’t have a conversation with him without him trying to sell you shit very hard seller type
There's no game store in my town, but the local game café is run by the most annoying frick ever.
He's not an butthole, he's actually trying to be nice. But he never says anything clever or funny and yet, that's where my friends gather to play. In the café run by this boring, dim frick. I keep hoping he goes out of business or my friends realize we're better off playing anywhere else.
You're obviously the actual butthole and I hope your friends realise they're better off playing without YOU.
Nah, I know what he's on about. There's people who tell a flop joke every five minutes, the entire time you're with them. You can't even pretend to laugh politely or anything after long enough, it's just grating.
The store two towns over that sells Army Painter paints beside Citadel paints posted this today:
> A little bit of an awkward post here, but hopefully everyone understands why I'm posting it.
>A polite reminder to everyone for game nights. The store is a small environment and everyone is pretty close together in an enclosed space. So I politely ask you to consider others when in, and if you can, use some deodorant or similar products before coming in. We also keep some sprays in the bathroom that people are free to use if needed. No one likes sitting in a store that stinks. It's been very bad lately.
>We've also had someone, who is coming in on Fridays. Either cutting, or biting off their nails and leaving them all over the floor. It's pretty disgusting, and I'm fed up of us having to clean them up. We found enough under one of the downstairs tables to probably be from both hands and all fingers.
They just sell pokemon plushes and cards and shit as well as a ridiculously large amount of warhammer stock, but it's all too expensive because warhammer. it's always awkwardly quiet and silent and sometimes random spergs are in there painting while the owner sits around. i've never actually played any /tg/s I just like painting figs but it sounds like a horror story to go. there's like 4 ultramarine players out of the 8 regulars.
Oh shit and I forgot to mention
>the games they were playing
>Horus Heresy, Bolt Action, Star Trek: Attack Wing, Kill Team and some MTG
they sell paints and terrain stuff though so it makes them convenient. they're the only store within an hour radius but they don't do the "buy 9 paints, get 1 extra free!" that GW stores do around here.
>Star Trek: Attack Wing
I didn't even know this shit existed
Any decent stores in southeast PA? A buddy and I are trying to get into playing warhammer. He's checked out Redcap's, but I've heard mixed things about it.
my shitty lgs had their employees beat the shit out of me for getting my fingerprints on a display case, then they stole my clothes and made me walk naked to my car where they followed me home and then gangraped my mother and sister. they then made me thank them for the experience and write a good google maps review at gunpoint. then one of them shot my dog and forced me to make stock from his bones. He had a knife to my neck the entire three hours the dog stock was simmering and then forced me to add salt and pepper to taste. I was still naked by the way, and they then made my family drink the entire stock pot of dog soup. they then left, telling me on the way out that i got off easy before stabbing me in the groin and leaving me bleeding out on my living room floor. the next day they came back and burned my home down.
did you survive?
No, the burn wounds I received compounded with my dick stabbing are fatal, i am slowly dying in a hospital bed right now. I am dictating my words to be posted in this thread by a close family member. In order to do this, he and i developed a language consisting of patterns created by my twitches and gasps of pain.
MY LGS TURNED ME INTO A LAMPSHADE!
It was a dingy basement and the shitter was right next to some of the tables and one of those fat nerds always had to shit. Staff was alright I guess. They got bought out at some point and I haven't been there since.
Mine is actually good, the owner used to work for the old LGS in the area but that closed down after the owner got fed up with the community when $15k worth of goods were stolen and we lost a good LGS for a bit. Real big shame too cause if you got yourself a membership ($100/year) you would get 25-30% off of almost everything in the store. Now I think the one that replaced the old LGS is only 20-25% off but they had an end of the year sale which I got shit for 35% off so I was happy.
Only downside is the owner is an ultra leftist who got really upset with me year's ago when I had a pepe phone background saying "you know that's a racist symbol I l tight?", you're also not allowed to conceal carry in the store but I guess that one is for the best since autists would try and kill each other for stupid shit, oh and you have to show proof of vaccinations if you want to enter the store without a mask.
But again besides those personal complaints the store is fantastic lots of open space, staff is friendly, quite a number of gaming tables with great terrain, as well as stocking non-GW stuff which is even better
>everything priced with a around 50-100% markup
>shitty employees
>shitty owner
>banned the old pokemon tcg professors because they could gouge the players for more if they ran the event themselves
>pokemon tcg best of 1, $8 entry, no entry pack, only 6 packs for top 3
>charge players playing in events table fee
>freeplay for non event players
>never enough table space
>despite having a large 40k player base only 1 40k table
>will happily take your money and only give you store credit back if they frick something up
>magic players scam kids
>pokemon players scam kids
and much much more!
forgot to add that the store is almost half the size of a city block, there's plenty of space for tables but there's only 6 tables
>Gamestore A is nothing but MTG and MTG accessories. Owner is a nice dude though and pointed me to where I could find TTRGPs and 40k
>Gamestore B is a 20 minute drive. Enormous playspace. Mostly MTG again but 40k and AoS gays meet up twice a week
>Gamestore C is a 40 minute drive. Kcould be cozy except both floors of the store are packed. Play space is reserved about 2-3 weeks in advance and highly sought after. No card games at all allowed. No clue how it stays in business.
Its right next to a laundromat that seems to breed anger. I don't know if it was cursed or they play some MK Ultra shit over the speakers but every time I go to the LGS there's a fight happening in the parking lot, one time we had to lock the doors because someone fired off a couple rounds. I don't even live in that dangerous of a city, maybe the neighborhood was better when they opened but its a pretty shit place now.
Mine is full of morbidly obese MTG players that smell like rotten cheese.
AC is always broken and it's smaller than OP's penis.
Please don't make fun of OP's penis. He's very insecure about it.
My LGS has a pretty chill community and a wide variety of tcg and ttrpg stuff. I can't really complain.
It’s not so much a shitty local store issue, but the old store I went to was nestled close to a petstore & hardware store and was there for a decade or more. I’d go there frequently after two closer local stores to me went out of business. The owner was a nice guy and had tons of miniatures and old RPG books that there collecting dust, there were multiple tables that facilitated the vast amounts of people being there from Battletech, WHFB/40k/AoS, Star Wars, MtG, etc. As usual, covid happened and the store took a hit but after covid it wasn’t as bad, not as many people as before however. The original owner of the store sadly passed away and the ownership went to his friend who was apparently a manager of some kind for FLGS but then he sold the store/product to Coliseum of Comics and it’s been empty ever since. I at least got some good stuff from that store like an original copy of a Rogue Trader book for around 70 dollars.
