Pretty fun game.
>viking waifu arpg with boats, no wokeshit
Sign me the frick up
>extremely capable and strong viking girl that the whole story revolves around
that sounds pretty woke to me, ngl
Revolves around her dumb ass getting possessed and having no emotional control.
>getting possessed and having no emotional control.
Boy Falcom really loves to reuse that one over and over huh
They seem to think that all German equivalents have some sort of Odinic war boner that comes out at the slightest drop of a hat.
>German equivalents have some sort of Odinic war boner that comes out at the slightest drop of a hat
Man, I WISH I could do that. Instead, I'm stuck dancing in my room to Heilung.
BASED, jrpgs are saved.
Ẁish we could say the same about your penis
Why are you so obsessed with his penis
>his
I don't think he'll approve
Holy frick they put sonic adventure grinding rails in
The gameplay actually looks incredible.
I have a really good feeling about this one. I think it's gunna be another banger like 8.
I'm sorry, anon.
this is pretty much what i expected, but it's nice the falcom sound team jdk is still a hidden gem.
>switch
lel, i hope to God none of you actually use on of those as a primary console
shut up homosexual
He's right, dipshit. The switch is absolutely not real hardware for playing games.
see
Those anons are correct, you are a moron for using a switch for anything. It's like admitting you're a cuck.
it's easy to pirate on
So is a PC
This comment about the composer/the soundtrack in particular is baffling. They outsourced almost everything to Singa and as far as I know, he keeps getting shat on by fans.
>SP generation
You go into almost every enemy encounter with full SP since it recharges out of combat.
I would rather listen to Singa than whatever is going in FF16 or a Western AAA's game soundtrack.
Singa hate is a meme.
When reading the YouTube comments (yeah, I know) under any video of something that Singa composed, I do get the feeling that the hate is a bit cult-like.
>you have no consistent way of filling it like you do in VIII
Flash guard and do one normal combo, boom. You can also charge valkyrie hammer while using skills. So if you use e.g. Yufa's spin to win skill and charge valkyrie hammer, you release it right after the skill animation is done and get most of the SP back. Skill finishes also fill up your SP.
Aside from that, encounters are usually over before/when you run out of SP so you're full again when the next enemies come along, even on the higher difficulties. The only exceptions are some larger non-boss enemies that don't attack often but are very tanky.
I actually remember complaints that SP are too easy to come by in IX when the game came out, but here you are claiming the opposite.
>You go into almost every enemy encounter with full SP since it recharges out of combat.
And consequently spend it in 3 seconds, at which point it regenerates slowly and you have no consistent way of filling it like you do in VIII. It's an objective downgrade from that game. There's no amount of fanboyism in the world that will change that.

It's good
Famitsu scored it higher than ys 9, take that as you will.
It's ok, the actual gameplay is fun but they break up a lot of it with these fricking dumb ship battles that exist just to bloat your time played.
The comments are so weird.
>I can't wait to play this on my gaming computer!
>wow daybreak AND ys10, nisa you crazy!!
>I can't wait to livestream this!
>I need the collector's edition!
Every day I believe the theory that 90% of the internet is just bots more and more.
Wow, it's almost like people outside of Ganker can still get excited about new games.
nta but they literally dont sound like real human beings. like, why do they talk like that? and why are there so many of them? theres just something very........ off about them, like theyre ai trying to mimic humans but without a soul to make it believable
>why do they talk like that?
Refer to my previous post.
no i can perfectly understand being excited for a new game, just..... theres something different about them. i cant quite place it, but like their word choice, or the reasoning for their sentences feels manufactured and not made by someone able to retain an actual conversation with other humans. maybe im just not autistic enough for the internet (or *too* autistic??)
>or *too* autistic??
That. Or just terminally online. Those two often go hand in hand.
t. Enjoys yslop
>slop
Seek help, the sooner the better.
that wasnt me. i wouldnt say im chronically online, i go outside and talk to people. idk i just feel like if someone said those irl, everyone would look at them like a fricking weirdo
Wow! What an impressive trailer! I can't wait to buy this game and play it on my gaming computer!
i've played a fair amount of ys games. ys chronicles (1 & 2), ys 3 (snes), oath in felghana, origin, ark of napishtim, memories of celceta, 8, and 9. of all of those, i've dropped 4: 3, celceta, 7, and 9.
celceta was just so slow and story-heavy, which is probably the worst thing falcom does in any ys game. 3 had terrible controls and mechanics. 7 got repetitive and boring. 9 was absolute trash, from the aesthetic to the annoying world traversal abilities that are forced into the game (and the world scaled up in size 4x to support them).
i have this wishlisted, but i'm going to wait for a sale. my gut tells me falcom is leaning way too far into trying to rip off atlus/persona and other shit, which tends to just take away from the attraction of the core ys mechanics and gameplay loop. falcom kinda reminds me of square, but without the past money and success to really lean into destroying their franchises.
>annoying world traversal abilities
Those were the only good part of the game anon.
these new games are so soulless i just dont care anymore
>muh PS2 visuals
You weren't even alive yet when PS2 was at its peak, and you clearly haven't seen a PS2 game ever, Jesus what's with all these zoomer pseuds here.
yeah PS2 games actually looked better than that
>PS2 visuals
Impressive.
Very beautiful, definitely worth the $60 price tag (unless NISA bumps it up to $70 like they did with Disgaea 6 and 7).
People get excited for weebslop that looks like this? Lmao what is this still the Vita era?
Is this your first time? Weebs literally only care about the female lead looking good, everything else might as well be N64 tier
it's like they just copied over judith from kuro. even uses the same animations
A super low budget, low effort Falcom game in current year? No way!
Black person tyou speak as if the west isn't even more of a offender when it comes to reusing assets
PS2 was the pinnacle of video gaming, so it makes sense that if you make your game look like a PS2 game, you'd channel some of that energy.
I'll play it later still have to play VII and IX tbh
You won't want to play X after playing IX, lmao. It's that bad.
I assume you are wrong tbh given this website's track record of critique.
Ys IX is an abomination. Direct downgrade from VIII. They botched the combat system by changing SP generation. You no longer have a charge attack that almost fully restores your SP. You instead get a late game attack that is similar, but infinitely slower and does not serve the same purpose, so instead you abuse the food mechanic to give yourself infinite SP. Story also sucks. And it's incredibly ugly, both technically and aesthetically. Also has the worst soundtrack in the series. It's bad. BAD.
>Also has the worst soundtrack in the series.
Marionette, Marionette is really good though.
Ys VIII got me into Ys, and I played the earlier games because of it and liked them too.
Monstrum Nox was such a piece of shit that I stopped playing Ys.
>words words words
Post physique and I might take it more seriously tbh
>boasting impressive PS2 visuals
Unironically my favorite.
Ys 8 is on sale for $14.
Karja is cute
>generic anime face model with generic anime hair model
Amazing. This is probably the lowest effort design I've ever seen.
Nah, she doesn't have the fluoride stare you see in gacha characters. That's an original donut steel waifu.
This dude doesn't even know the name of the game anymore, only that he will buy it because the anime girl
This is why gaming is fricked today.
Last game of this franchise I pirated played was ys 8. Right away I was shocked how poor the graphics were gave me early 2000 korean mmorpg vibes. Then there is the gameplay that is hack and slash dodge repeat 9000x. Uninstalled less then a hour in.
Who the hell plays these shit games?
>Who the hell plays these shit games?
Guys with huge dicks.
You realize this is made for asians right....
Could not be more wrong.
Braindead weebs. Fanboys act like the shit braidead gameplay and N64 graphics in these games is actually a good thing.
>n64 graphics
What ?
>what is a hyperbole
Why do people still buy falcom games?
The music isn't good anymore. The gameplay is meh. The writing is trash. The graphics are outdated. Voice acting is incomplete.
And they hate the fans outside Japan? Like why do you even want to support such a company? Isn't it better to replay old Falcom games?
>Why do people still buy falcom games?
Kiseki is still good. I wish they didn't give up on all their other IPs just to keep Ys going when it hasn't been any good since Origin.
>The music isn't good anymore.
Stopped reading there, shit taste and equally shit opinions.
nah he's right, ys x has quite a lot of bad tracks
Well okay, I haven't X yet (and that guy likely hasn't either), but IX still had some really good music, not to mention the bangers of VIII and the earlier games.
ys 9 has one of the worst soundtracks ive ever heard in a game. some of the songs were so completely annoying i had to mute the game which i never thought i would have to do with a falcom game. idk why people have such a hard time admitting that falcom are shit now. people cry about how shit modern kiseki is but modern ys is just as bad.
>people cry about how shit modern kiseki is
Only because they haven't played the Kuro masterpiece yet.
Shame about Kuro 2's stupid ass "main plot" because the mechanics are really fun and the character work is enjoyable. Fricking Auguste Compte I swear to God.
>Why do people still buy falcom games?
Pleasant characters.
Nice setting.
Good aesthetics.
Great music.
Enjoyable turn based combat and character building.
Exciting, hype moments every now and then (see pictured).
There isn't much else coming out on the market that appeals to me.
Pic related was the real hype moment of Hajimari.
I always thought he was the biggest homosexual with the biggest homosexual appearance, the biggest homosexual name and the biggest homosexual demeanor of the entirety of Kiseki
I forgot to mention I fricking love being trans
Explains why you like McBurn then
>ironic weebs and westoids seething
KINO
Falcom is simply too Japanese and too powerful.
I'm playing Ys Origin and it's kind of kino. Takes me back to playing Recettear.
It's a cool game, just don't play Hugo first, his gameplay is nothing like the other 2 characters.
i hope you enjoy it anon, its one of my favorites. if the weird, sort of wistful atmosphere at some parts of the game sticks with you like it did with me, definitely try ys i&ii at some point
ys 1 & 2 are good. it's okay to use a guide. your moronic lol. just accept it and stop torturing yourself.
its not okay to use a guide. i went in completely blind and now both i&ii are two of my favorite games ever. just talk to the npcs its not that hard
your going to need a guide. don't listen to this guy. just use a guide and ignore this guy lol. he's pretending you don't need it to trick you into having a bad experience. he's a part of a discord shill campaign against ys by a kiseki discord trying to ruin ys so kiseki will have more resources.
oh i got baited. i was wondering why your first response had nothing to do with either comment
the kiseki discorder cries out in pain as he strikes you
>using a guide
>for ys 1
there is literally nothing in the game that you need a guide to figure out
>get item that increases hp
>nice
>HP increases by 1
What did they mean by this?
Maybe they originally intended Ys Origins to have DnD type numbers where everyone has like 10 hp and endgame content has like 100 hp originally and forgot to update that item when they updated all the other items
>>HP increases by 1
You must be playing on Nightmare, it gives a bit more on the lower difficulties.
>boasting impressive PS2 visuals
I wish this meme of using "PS2 graphics" as an insult would fricking die. Most of the time the PS2 looked better than whatever the person is talking about.
PS2 was the weakest console of its generation.
hehe
me on the left
Never played this series. Should I start?
Do you like anime? Because these games are cheesy as frick, and later entries have pages upon pages of your typical anime dialog.
The ones in your screenshot are mostly retro style action RPG's though, with Origin and Oath having somewhat decent combat mechanics with a big focus on tough bosses.
Note that Chronicles (I & II) was made for an ancient Japanese home PC, the gamepad for that thing had only 2 buttons, so there's no attack button in the game, you just... bump into enemies, but at an angle (otherwise you take damage). Very acquired taste.
you don't have to like anime to like the ys games. you can totally ignore the gay moronic stories and just enjoy the gameplay. ys 1 & 2 are very distinct gameplay that you might hate. try out oath in felghana. if you like it, play origin. if you like that, play ark of napishtim. it's basically diet oath & origin with an even gayer story and gayer characters. if you liked all of those, try ys 8. ys 8 is the most story heavy of them all, but it can be fast forwarded without skipping so you can track progress and stuff iirc. that one is like some super gay ass anime bullshit, but i found it inoffensive and easy to ignore.
The only ones worth playing were made before Seven. Start with I&II Chronicles (make sure to use "Complete" mode in the config menu so the game isn't zoomed in and the art isn't replaced with generic anime slop). If you enjoy it, play the rest of the series in release order (the games range from 5-20 hrs to beat):
- Ys I
- Ys II
- Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (Skippable)
- Ys IV: Mask of the Sun
- Ys IV: Dawn of Ys
- Ys V: Kefin. The Lost Kingdom of Sand (Needs a translation patch)
- Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
- Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Remake of III)
- Ys Origin
I should mention both versions of 4 need a translation too, and Mask of the Sun is closer to canon (although not anymore). There *is* a remake but it's pretty bad and overstays its welcome unlike Oath so don't waste your time
Don't buy the ones from Clouded Leopard Entertainment, they're inferior ports and not translated. None of the DLC is worth getting either, you won't miss out on story
III, both IVs and V are absolutely skippable. Moreso III since it has an amazing remake. IV also has a remake but it kinda sucks.
I&II Chronicles+ is great, but can be skipped too if you really can't stand bump combat (I'd say still at least try to power through it).
Origin is best played right after I&II as they are directly connected, but it's also the most polished Napishtim engine game so going back to Felghana and especially VI itself will be tougher.
The story of VI also kinda hinges on you having played pretty much every game up to it chronologically, if you even care about that.
Modern Ys (SEVEN, Celceta, VIII, IX and now X) is not quite AS bad as some of the purists here would like you to believe, even if it is more generic and the combat suffered greatly from the addition of dodge/block/skill spam. VIII in particular is a wonderful game in its own right, even if it is very different and kind of a disappointment for a lot of older series fans.
>I&II Chronicles+ is great, but can be skipped
Damn that hurts, I can't blame you though even if it is my favorite.
Also my problem with modern Ys is they're longer and don't make up for it at all in my opinion... on top of being some of the most forgettable jrpgs I've ever played (save for VIII of course, but that one is the longest and should've been a standalone game). If you're a neet with time to waste then sure try them for the music alone, but otherwise you're way better off playing literally anything else
How come the series has two different publishers on steam?
There's like 5000 DLC's for the two most recent games too, wtf?
ys6 is the last good ys game, everything after it is dogshit that gets mogged by xanadu NEXT
