Are video games gains goblins? I’d argue that the best video games for keeping fit are the ones you can walk away from at any time with no commitment. I like arcade style games on the occasion.

The shoving of political views into vidya has made it an unjustifiable hobby for me. Once upon a time I would have argued for moderation since life is more than just drudgery and work, but it feels like more stubborn effort to get through games that are the digital equivalent of a Chinese factory made pride flag.
Have you played any indie games? Try Risk of Rain.
The most recent game I picked up and genuinely enjoyed was A Hat in Time. It did Banjo-Kazooie style shit way better than Yooka did. But there is too much shit to wade through, especially in the indie scene, for me to give games enough hunting time.
Based. Can't wait till i get to play this gem. Got to finish Persona 5 Royal first though, I dont like playing multiple games at once.
>Try Risk of Rain
>Verification not required.
Yea pretty much. Video games were fun when they were actually made to be fun. Now, they're made by people that seem to hate the people playing them. You either have to have no self-esteem to subject yourself to that shit or you're looking to get demoralized.
This is such a pointless and inane complaint. There are many more things wrong with modern games than just 'muh politics'. Politics in games is basically a nonissue compared to everything else.
In fact, the only example of politics being inserted into a game I've experienced is the body type changes in classic wow. But I'm also able to switch genders at the hairdresser without paying $15. So its a win.
There are in fact many things wrong, but politics takes me immediately out of something. Saints Row used to be a fun nonsense crime game until it was inundated with Reddit anti-capitalist memes.
>wowbuck
>can only think of body type change
Opinion discarded moron
I said classic wow. I havent played retail for over half a decade.
>Hire troons gays and Black folk
>They weed out actual designers that like games
>Game ends up being convoluted mess of miscegenated people, lgbdvorak+ takes and the demonization of the playerbase pre-troonification of the company.
Also
>ESGbucks
kys you fricking israelite
Just stop playing western shit.
>muh politics
Shut the frick up incel, video games have been political ever since one guy made a game on the Atari where you play as a cowboy raping Indians
>Shut up incel
> You have to accept everything big corporations want you to see
> If you don't you're an incel
Kek, Custer's Revenge? A game that sold 80,000 copies on the only gaming system available at the time is hardly an example of a politicized game. Plus that was a game for adults so they could get a bit of value out of the system they bought for their child(ren). Find a better example.
The political issue in video games is that they are inorganically warping the political views of young impressionable minds towards marxist ideals. If you don't have a problem with that, you're better off dead.
meds
This, I have an Xbox 360 with games from 2007-2013. It is all I will ever need
I have two naked prisoners that my naked vampire psychic couple routinely steal blood from locked in a wall on my segregated cocaine farm in rimworld. Shut the frick up about politics in games
videogames make my hunger goo away like cigaretts
Has the exact opposite effect on me. I end up craving and binging snacks because I did that for so long in my life. Almost Pavlovian.
This. I go to the gym at night and when I come home I play a shooter to keep my mind off eating and hunger until I go to bed.
Alcohol is the gains goblin.
I haven't played a game since I was 17
I don't get how people can enjoy them
Every quest or sidequest feels like fricking chore
not fun
Poor bloke, his wife will divorce him
>Are video games gains goblins?
Yes if they distract your focus away from anything else you should be doing. I quit gaming when I realized, one day after a workout, that I was just trying to get the workout over with so I could sit and play video games. I wasn't even really enjoying these games, they were a habit that I had since childhood.
It was too difficult to quit entirely for me, I'm not perfect, but I made a personal commitment to only practice Tetris and nothing else if I'm playing vidya by myself. That way it becomes more of a skill I'm practicing, like lifting or piano.
What's the issue with having rocks around?
i feel like zoomers are going through this phase where they're 20-25 and they think video games are a waste of time and they need to do something more meaningful with their lives but they'll just inevitably get back into them anyways because they'll realize outside of work and their 1 or 2 hobbies they really don't have anything better to do, so to answer your question
>Are video games gains goblins?
who fricking cares, either play them or don't
Depends on the game. Monster Hunter is purely anabolic.
What happened to men
I don't know how long you can work out per day, but it's definitely not all of your awake hours. There's nothing wrong with having a hobby.
Video games are NOT a hobby. A hobby produces something. Reading is NOT a hobby, neither is watching TV or movies, or listening to music.
Making games is a hobby. Creating music is a hobby. Writing stories is a hobby. Writing/producing reviews of games/shows/movies is a hobby.
Sitting on your ass playing along to someone else's work is NOT a hobby.
Largely a time killer, and there are way better time killers.
I'd argue reading is a hobby if you're reading non-fiction and classical works of fiction to improve your life. Modern fiction is equivalent to video games in that it really doesn't do anything other than stimulate feel good chemicals.
I can immerse myself in fantasy rpg games, then I take a break, eat natural foods I saw in the game, workout hard to resemble the chad in the game. It can actually inspire you, if you have the right mindset.
>wake up at 5
>gym at 6
>work at 8
>done at 4:30
>home by 5
>play rimworld and/or borderlands until 8
>read until 9
>sleep
>repeat till the weekend
it's a good life, i feel like i'm having my cake and eating it too honestly. I don't get why people think vidya and fit are mutually exclusive. Of course I have no social life to speak of but I get a lot of social interaction at work due to the nature of my job so it's fine. my desire to look better sprung partially from the contrast between myself and my avatar in ESO. I will agree 100% that mmos are gains goblins, glad I don't play that shit anymore
Finding that one game that you can just sandbox forever is so damn nice. The worst feeling is when you have free time and just swatch YouTube for 5 hours.
Youtube is legitimately the biggest gains goblin there is. I am sure that if I could never use youtube again, I would be at least twice as happy right now. I wish I could quit it so bad, but it's a lot of effort, so I'm still working on it.
I wouldn’t know what to replace it with
My youtube addiction is so bad that I even see watching TV or anime as productive, because at least some of it is worthwhile and memorable.
Wtf are you guys watching on YouTube?
Not those anons, but red-pill shit can suck me in for hours and then spit me out with even less respect for modern women.
Redpill stuff on youtube for me is also a huge timesink, and i come out really hating women, ive stopped watching all redpill content, unsubbed from all rp channels. Maybe watch a timestamped vid once in a while when im sick of the gynocracy around me, but thats it. Have been more productive and happier ever since
I watch lots of stuff. People building stuff, people growing their own food and raising their own animals. I also enjoy watching people make miniature stuff. Like little fountains/gardens and display terrain and figurines. I also enjoy watching professional carpet cleaners clean carpets. If I like a person's voice and the period I also like watching history documentaries. I also like cooking shows, Tasting History is an enjoyable gay to watch and there is some German/Dutch woman I often find myself watching, her I enjoy because she doesn't talk.
>Youtube is legitimately the biggest brains goblin there is.
ftfy
I replaced my YouTube addiction with just mindlessly reading Wikipedia articles about subjects that interest me. At least I get a bit of education while procrastinating now.
Man this. I have YouTube on in the background at my WFH job. I noticed I don’t get any work completed when it’s on. Jx4m8y
Cooking? Eating? Hygiene?
Good thing some of the best games ever made are pick up and play. If I can't get instantly back into a game 3 months later because the systems are too complicated its not worth my time. Earth Defense Force is one of my favorites for this reason.
Everything in moderation, probably. I have weeks/months when I'm not in the mood to play anything, then I find something and play it one or two hours in one go per day, some games I play an hour a day, and very rarely I play more.
I remember during my twenties when me and my partner played Final Fantasy XII for hours on end during the nights and watched Sailor Moon in the early morning on TV afterwards. That was great, but only feasible for a set period of time.
Why 12, I prefer 6, 7,8, 10, and even 13 to 12
Because it was a great game with a great story, great characters, great soundtrack, great world and great presentations. I think the story wasn't as "in your face" as other Final Fantasys and dealt with a bigger scope. And Al-Cid Magrace was an absolute killer side character. Voice action was awesome, too, and the German localisation (text only) had great language.
It will always hold a special place in my heart.
We also played X and X-2 a lot. I played all Final Fantasys aside from 2, 9 and 15, but for me, 12 will always be the best.
>I prefer 6, 7,8, 10, and even 13
Why no FF9? Great game.
they're the only ones I've played.
>classical
The hang up I have there is I like the idea of Don Quixote far more than the way it's actually written, and as far as rotk, and the water margin go Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, and Song Jiang are all insufferable gaylords who are propagandised hard
>my partner
Just admit you're a homosexual. You're anonymous. Nobody's going to care that you cuddled a man while watching Sailor Moon.
You can't win, no matter if you say "my partner" or "my husband"
I'm not a homosexual, I'm female, but that's of no relevance to the thread.
>I'm female
even less respectable
Are you fit
You know the rules
Idk why girls say partner irl, I always just assume they’re gay
Probably in the vain hope that it will just be glossed over, although not sayng gf often is a giveaway that the poster is either gay or a female. I don't say partner in real life, btw.
How the frick do these people manage to get married
female standards drop a lot when girls pass age 22.
>needs to rely on a coin toss to decide if he'll do something healthy or something unhealthy
Easy times create weak men.
Why did it take so long for someone to call this out
What a fricking pathetic homosexual
Do your Galaga reps gays
They're good for cutting though.
>Play Call of Duty or some shit for 12 hours
>Oh frick I haven't eaten today
>Down two scoops of protein powder
>Go back to blasting noobs
or maybe that's the adderall
yea but I don’t play that much and I got only 1 game on my ps.
The best vidya for keeping fit is VR.
Gotta make it fit your life, and not the other way around. Was a huge MMO geek, still am. Fit now and have been since my late teens (former fatty). Now work in games, so I hate seeing lazy pussies blame gaming on their shit lives, take some accountability
Just about all non responsible tasks are gains goblins.
But everything in moderation
>Are video games gains goblins?
They’re gains goblins, time goblins, money goblins, sex goblins. They’re life goblins
NGL, if you’re over the age of 12 and still play video games, you’re a genetic dead end and shouldn’t reproduce.
Probably the biggest gains goblin unless you can moderate yourself (which you cant probably)
Yes, OP. Video Games are gainz goblins. Here is why:
1) They do not improve your life in any way whatsoever, with the exception that you may get an occasional serotonin spike.
2) Most video games are built around cycles of play that give you dopamine and modern games look to make that reward cycle as short as possible so you'll stay in the game longer (often spending more money).
3) Many competitive games are known for being "toxic", why? Because those games create an environment that make you feel good when you win, as if you were the cause, so that you'll continue to play. When you lose, the game will try and make it feel like you were not the cause so that you feel like you should play another game to "win back your placement". They do this by making the gane snowbally, or deliberately making the teams one-sided (see "loser's queue"). Ask yourself, do you feel good after playing? Often the answer is no.
4) Opportunity cost - so, now that you're spending hours a day playing games, what else could you be doing? Many people want to find a grand purpose they are missing out on, however this makes people feel like they aren't missing anything. "I wasn't going to start my own company anyway, so I dint need those hours". But is your room clean? Is your laundry done? Is your spouse/partner content, or would they like to spend time with you? You have a partner right? If not, why are you sitting alone instead of going to a bar or some other social venue, (concert, bookstore, arcade, literally anywhere outside of your house)?
I say this as a video game addict. I started playing video games as a young kid with a Gameboy, and I never realized what I was missing or what a negative impact it had on me. I started playing competitive games in college (overwatch, league, hearthstone), and I found myself taking out my bad temper on my gf (later fiancé and then wife). Luckily I got away from playing videogames, but it took years and many, many fights to escape.
Agreed. It took me years to realize the same thing but I'm off of video games completely.
It's sad to see guys my age (early 30s) that are still caught up in this cycle.
i think sometimes theyre ok,
they relieve stress when i type Black person at people
Any video game that isn't multiplayer with friends is a life goblin. That one exception should only be 3-5hr/week max too
>those fingers
How old is that dude?
Probably far too old to have a rainbow backlit keyboard, let alone playing video games.
Gamers are so cringe, to the point of it not being funny
Why morons like video games so much? I mean I get it it's kinda mainstream now but still weird for a man to spend so much time on videogames if he's older than 15
AAA games are the devil.
Only play retro games (yes, this includes ps2/early ps3-gen games by now) and indies
also, get rid of that gaming pc. just play on a steam deck, some old laptop, a psp, whatever.
Only long match games like League or Civ. If it's something short like MW or Titanfall you can do push ups and pull ups between games.
