      >How do you fuck up a sequel enough, that people would rather play the first game?
That happened to a surprisingly large amount of sequels.
      Witcher 1 into 2
      Victoria 2 into 3
      All the Battlefields
      Most all Bethesda games
Risk of Rain 1 into 2
      Stalker games
It's surprisingly common that the sequel will be overall worse than the previous game.

Contrariamorons are just dumb. DL1 was a mediocre game people only liked for the parkour, which was massively improved in 2. And the devs even removed the artificial diffficulty that made it impossible to parkour at night, which was a welcome change by all players.

You're not totally wrong. 2 did dramatically improve the parkour. But by changing the night they took away a big part of the sense of danger. In the original, you had to get all of your shit done before the dark or you were stranded in big murder country and generally your only options were a tense game of cat and mouse or a desperate sprint to a safe zone. The devs made it so that night time was functionally indistinguishable from daytime, except darker and if you somehow totally fucked up someone screamed at you and you had to run fifty yards to a safe zone. Plus they dumbed the game down and it hurt the combat. Fighting zombies in a zombie fighting game shouldn't feel boring and floaty, but they managed to take away the heft of your attacks and the tactical dismemberment, and made it so that fighting zombies was just a chore to complete your checklist rather than an entertaining and enjoyable experience. I liked the meter that made doing things inside feel tense, but pretty quickly you get a big enough timer and refill your bar inhalers that it becomes meaningless.

I liked 2, but that's because I love open world exploration games. Anyone who liked 1 because it was a zombie fighting game probably disliked 2 because it really did not focus on that.

Sure, but now there's night exclusive stuff with good rewards like killing special infected, the bossfights, etc and you can do stuff indoors that you can't do during the day. In DL1, night time was just "get the fuck inside" and I never played it. DL2 probably could have made night a little more tense, but I enjoyed how they actually made it as important as daytime in terms of stuff to do in the world.

Those literally exist in 1, there are zombos that only come out at night, nevermind the fact that you can literally farm volatiles with the basic starter shotgun for easy money and exp.

Yes, and like I said before nobody engaged in that content because the game had poorly thought out night mechanics that resulted in the vast majority of players simply staying inside at night.

So? You're saying theres nothing to do at night on dl1 and i'm saying there is. You claim theres no incentives when theres literally double exp, bosses, quarantine zones, bolters for their exclusive materials, pvp mode night hunter, midnight airdrop. It looks to me you're complaining about a game you never played, you are more powerful than volatiles you have a uv light which stuns them and its a base item, then you also have flares/zaids flares which stop volatiles attacking you all together for around 30s per.

The guns in 1 were a lot of fun, especially in the Following expansion where gunshots didn't attract virals everytime, also this expansion added new guns.
It was no Far Cry yeah, but you had the basics: six-shooters, handguns, assault rifle, double barrels shotgun, semi auto shotgun, submachine guns, bows, crossbows, they even added handguns with silencers at some point.
The main problem with 2 is that they fell for the "20 years later with overgrown vegetation post-apo setting" meme, which forced them into this weird neo-medieval shit.

DL1 still has tons of custom maps and campaigns that keep me coming back.
DL2 didn't get mod tools until last month, and thus far most of the modded maps are broken and even just getting to the maps requires a shit ton of time (and RAM, since you need to open the dev environment to load any maps, and that's going to eat up like 6 GB of RAM by itself).
In DL1 all I need to do is open the custom game version at launch, and I can get all my mods from he workshop instead of having to use mod.io, which sucks ass.

I enjoyed it more than 1. The story is better and more involved, and there's choices to be made and whatnot. Still very flawed, but I enjoyed it. The parkour is amazing, and the city environment is beautiful. I don't know if the changes to the night are good or bad, but the game is still very scary if howlers spot you and get a chase going. The difference is now you're incentivized to spend time outside at night, and it's not quite as horribly oppressive. Night in the first game was so bad that I fucking hated whenever I had to actually go out in it. DL2 it was still risky and you had to be careful, but it wasn't nearly as bad. Not sure if that makes it better or worse tbh

Cry all you want, it's a legitimate mechanical decision to make night less terrifying so that more people actually engage with it mechanically instead of just treating it as something they skip. (which is how the majority of players played DL1)

            >The story is better and more involved
Let me guess, you skipped all the cutscenes in 1 and didn't even play The Following.

No, the story was just pretty mediocre. DL2 was far from perfect but it had an interesting and intimidating villain, and a lot of different choices you could make. I enjoyed it.

              Anonymous

The night time in DL1 being genuinely terrifying was what made the game stand out from other zombie games.
You were supposed to dread it and avoid it as much as possible.
But, if you went out at night you were rewarded with x2 XP, and absolutely thrilling moments.

Yeah, and I literally never went out at night in DL1 unless the game forced me too. And that's what the majority of people did, meaning literally all the night exclusive stuff they designed for the players to do was wasted. Night in DL2 is still fucking scary if you aggro a screamer, the chasing zombies are fast as fuck and you can absolutely get run down and killed if you're not careful. But it had a nice balance where I still went out and did stuff, and the rewards were better as well.

Don't care. If the devs wanted more players to engage with the mechanics at night, they made the correct decision. Did they go too far? Could they have made it a bit more challenging? Probably, but I was able to enjoy the night content in DL2 and I didn't in DL1.

I don't think DL2's nights are perfect, but it definitely was an improvement over DL1 where I just never went out at night ever because there were swarms of volatiles everywhere who would basically instakill you. The way the rooftops were safe and the ground was dangerous is a cool dynamic, and it made me shit my pants a little every time I had to leave the roofs to get somewhere.

I'm playing DL2 now, it ain't bad. It feels different from the first because the first had something that could be arguable as bad, the buildings were very similar in their size and same goes for the streets, stuff was quite "blocky" which gave the world a much more homogeneous appearance for better or worse. I just started hours ago, there's a bit of a frustration on the night chases at low level right now, I feel a bit overwhelmed at climbing routes with 10 shits on my tail compared to the first. I'm unsure about the changes to climbing with stamina now, in a way it does bring something new to how it was in the first, also I don't have it yet but I heard the grappling hook was nerfed and that's good news, because that shit was broken good in the first. I'm liking the parkour overall a lot more

Despite the first game not being a strictly runner game like Mirror's Edge, I always thought it carried that torch of First Person Perspective platforming rather well, the platforming in this so far is pretty nice and that's good to have, Fuck that gay britcunt who whines about FPP platforming too, how can a person be so dumb not require 3rd person to do platforming, your walk/run speed is a constant, it shouldn't need a camera to know when you'll be at the ledge, retarded commie cunt

Dying Light is a zombie game with parkour.
Dying Light 2 is a parkour game with zombies.
I played Dying Light for nearly 300 hours, and I always came back to it over the years, it was THAT fun to me.
Dying Light 2 I played over 40 hours, and eventually dropped it out of sheer boredom.
Which is a shame because yeah, parkour has more variety to it in 2.
But the weightless combat and floaty movement killed it for me entirely.
I also loathed how they made the combat in 2 animations based, rather than bringing back the physics sandbox from 1.
In 2 you have to use the correct skills in the correct order to do cool shit, often waiting for animations to fucking end.
In 1 I could be more creative during combat, I could slide+tackle a zombie to break its legs, then stomp kick his head. Then I would use its guts to camouflage myself, and then snapping another zombie's neck from behind.
Parkour in 1, although not having as many options as 2, still felt more satisfying to me, it felt snappy, just like the combat.

I don't know, the first Dying Light had pretty good parkour despite not having the stamina system, chases at night were really interesting going around and switching directions and shit.

What Dying Light as an IP badly needs is to add some momentum mechanic to the combat, take a bit of a hint from the Mount & Blade mechanic that melee strikes with speed have increased damage. Could also use vertical strikes from jumps to deal extra damage. Maybe make them cost more stamina or whatever, the idea of sprinting and bashing some skulls sounds pretty good and it's a system made for a game with emphasis on movement/parkour

I mean Dying Light 1 already had satisfying and meaty combat (because of the physics, gore effects, and sound design), but they decided to throw it all away to serve us this animations based garbage in 2.

I didn't dislike the combat of DL1 but I always thought it could be improved with momentum mechanics, the dropkick was too abusable and there's just a wasted potential of not allowing the player to deal immense damage by dropping from a certain height and smashing skulls like a watermelon with some 2x4 or like I said allowing power strikes while sprinting. The series could also experiment with light strikes and heavy charged strikes, then you charge and run/jump and hit, deal massive damage, it seems logical to me that a game all about movement would integrate speed into boosting the damage of the strikes, not as a requirement but as another thing that can be done

I haven't unlocked that yet but I wanted more than a single ground slam attack. I want mechanics that make speed boost the damage of your strikes. So you sprint and smash heads = bigger damage, you jump from a car and hit stuff, it deals extra damage etc, much like in Mount & blade if you are on horseback and if you dish weapon strikes while the horse is sprinting, the damage increases, but integrate this with the parkour/jumping/sprinting instead

DL2 is better than DL1 + All DLC. I finished DL1 for the first time just before playing DL2. However I didn't finish DL2 for the following reasons:

    >Early Launch Bugs
    >Bad Voiceacting/Story
Which was just as shit in DL1, but DL1 looked like shit so it matched, it's even more jarring here. Main Protagonist wasn't that bad but the rest was.
    >Lack of Content
DL1 has like a decade of DLC and Add Ons, DL2 has none of that.

I overhyped DL2 too much in my head, and what I played I liked, but I wanted it to get better, then I got distracted by better games.

I'd assume it's better. I can't imagine pulling off the more advanced movement, as quick as I ended up doing it by the end of my DL1 playthrough, on a controller. Plus you have to aim guns. It's a very camera heavy game where you always want full control of where you're looking at.

lel no, that's actually the opposite. DL2 at least has the interesting dynamic of rooftops being safe at night while the streets are dangerous, meaning players are punished if they fail at parkour and end up on the street.

The majority of players are not playing night hunter game mode, you can literally turn it off and theres cheaters who instant kill you and have infinite uv torches. It's not a mode per say it adds onto the game itself not seperate to the main game.

And yet it's still true that the reason more people are playing DL1 is because of the multiplayer DLC modes that DL2 doesn't have. Cry about it all you want.

I think this all boils down to you being terrible at the free running mechanics because I have no idea how you'd ever accidentally fall off the rooftops and play the entirety of DL1 without being able to easily shake off volatiles. Dying Light 2 has completely static nights, thus completely killing what made the first game stand out in the first place.
In 2 you have to actively taunt the enemies for minutes to finally have a worthy chase around the city.
In 1 you HAD to be careful because Volatiles could be anywhere.
The night in 1 actually changed how the game was played, in 2 they just made it tedious and boring.
The infection timer in 2 was also incredibly tedious.

You had all kinds of tools helping you getting around at night
There are 2-3 volatiles in the area you need to go/do shit in? You could either trigger a car trap, attracting the volatiles to it because of the honk. You could also trigger UV light traps to make them flee.
You even had UV flares, your UV flashlight, firecrackers, and of course just using the level design to find the appropriate route without getting spotted by volatiles.

I only played DL2 for like 5 hours before giving it up.
Who the fuck decided to make the combat complete ass compared to DL? In DL2 you swing a weapon in the air and three zombies next to eachother do the exact same stagger animation with no impact feel, in DL1 you hit that fucker right in the right shoulder with your axe, the feeling is miles better.
Also sneaking around in gay little timed dungeons looking for upgrade shots fucking sucked, create a better upgrade system you retards.
