Most of the games were ported to other platforms and it doesn't have exclusives like PC engine and other Japanese computers from that time.
It was a development platform for a lot of arcade games so it has some excellent ports.
Just get a 9800 instead of that overpriced meme machine
There's an X68000 mini coming if you'd rather go that route.
I wonder if you can install OS 9 on the new one just like on the old one.
wasn't there a pc-98 or 88 mini? did it have input lag?
There was PC-8001 mini, even older model with really rudimentary games.
All minis have input lag, they're emulation machines with really cheap hardware.
HAL Laboratory new product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUBYgtzqkpU
>Outside pokemon, GameFreak releases shitty games that no one gives a crap about.
>Outside Kirby, HAL makes mini computers that, while they are exceptionally alien to anyone outside japan, they are still respecting their legacy.
any more proof about how HAL is the superior 2nd partier in nintendo?
Sir Sakurai and late Nintendo president. Any more?
Game Freak full of incompetent when come to milking.
For me, the soul of the x68k resides in its doujin titles, mostly shmups ft. puzzle and fighting games, with the former showing off what the system was musically and graphically capable of. Picrel, Mahou Shooter Pucchin Purin, is my favorite so far.
Unfortunately, none of these would realistically make it there, only Cho Ren Sha has a chance. Oh well, at least they could also toss Chobi Ren Sha in as an easter egg.
You guys got any place where I can download doujin and magazine floppies?
=)
one of the most powerful gaming systems of the 1980s, with a price to match. influenced the design of the CPS arcade system board. near identical hardware and functionality (x68000 has less sprites). only thing that came close to this was the amiga, but sadly amiga didn't support tiles.
no thanks
> gaming
i found most of the real soul was in the actual community releasing music/graphics/digital magazines. it really reminded me of the passion of amiga users except for some strange reason there were no scene-like demos, even though the machine is capable of some amazing effects.
Some of the later games did feel like playable demos, such as Angel Dive with its looping backgrounds and some enemies, or XX-Files R's name entry screen's rotating spheres that are there just to flex.
https://archive.org/details/Sharp_X68000_Collection
This has almost everything known. A notable exception I can think of is 2v2 Vs Memorial, a Tokimeki fighting game that plays like MvC.
https://archive.org/details/2vs2-vs-memorial
Some other doujin have been uploaded to nfg gaming's forums. Still missing some stuff hoarded by individuals : blue wings 1, death ephemara, exceed, buray force or guided ms to name a few.
Are XM6's controls unresponsive to anyone else? I need it for those games the px68k core doesn't run.
or Moon Soldier II
Founded two YouTuber and gamefaq discussion about.
Do you read Japanese? If not, then don't bother.
Best versions of a lot of multi-plat. games are found nowhere else.
better than fm towns, if nothing else
the street fighter port is very overrated, it has sound issues. they didn't even bother optimizing SF2 new challengers, so you need a top end model or it runs like shit
mostly arcade ports, but has a handful of console exclusives from pce, genesis and even snes
has the best version of Ys 3
>has the best version of Ys 3
And if you don't like that version, Falcom's releasing a straight port of the PC-88 version for X68000 later this year.

What is this time machine wizardry?
Holy shit, nice.
Good stuff.
>has the best version of Ys 3
That's the Turbografx CD
>That's the Turbografx CD
>worse graphics
>godawful scrolling and annoying voices
the music is good though
>annoying voices
What the hell happened with the English voice acting in 3? 1&2 English VA was fine.
They spent big on professionals for books 1 and 2. Probably spent about 5 bucks on 3.
Well, it has castlevania and uh... I guess some porn majhong or something.
Like all of these Japanese-only pre-Windows PCs it's pretty cool but not worth trying to nip up the real hardware anymore. Shit's mega expensive in today's reseller market, and the majority of the OEM components in them are guaranteed to need replacement or maintenance.
Emulators and MISTER have already hit cycle accuracy and the entire library's been dumped for the x68000 (you can even run the original OS and pretend you're using it for non-game shit), so you should check that out first before trying to commit.
Wait what? Last I checked the Mister core is unfinished.
same, iirc it can play popular stuff like the castlevania games, but is otherwise bug ridden with issues
Hmmmm
>and the entire library's been dumped for the x68000
No fricking way an entire library was ever dumped for any notable personal computer system, I bet there's doujin games only ever sold on comiket that faded into such obscurity nobody on the internet knows they exist
ok
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cho_Ren_Sha_68K
That's available on PC.
yes its ported to windows 10 and free
check it out its great
I honestly prefer the emulated X68k version over the windows port, it runs at 55fps and has slowdown when there's too much shit on screen, making it much more manageable (and, for me, more enjoyable) to play
the games arent worth it, most of them are on multiple floppy disks
fricking fatal fury special is on 9 disks...
do you not have the attention span to do a one-time install with multiple disks?
>9 disks
Cart chad here.
The game you chose there is worth setting up an emulator; it's fantastic. I'm sure you already know, but it also got a PlayStation port. It's supposedly vastly inferior to the X68000 original according to at least one anon on here, but I frankly can't tell much of a difference and appreciate the arranged mode it includes.
I've mostly played arcade ports which all play very well and have great graphics and music. It must be a truly impressive machine in person.
>X68K
>Dragon Quest IV
WHAT THE FRICK?!
Most Dragon Quest games have been ported everywhere.
Does the X68K version have any substantial difference from the Famicom version? There is no info about it anywhere except one youtube video in which monsters appear glitchy but that may just be the emulator
Music is quite different, that's about all I notice from a quick youtube vid
https://kyokugen.info/dq4/
Going by this explaining the differences with the PS1, DS and mobile versions and not mentioning the X86000 I can only assume it is identical to the famicom version. Wonderswan JRPG ports run at 75 hz and you can get through them faster so maybe the X86000 version runs a little slower than the famicom.
https://kyokugen.info/dq4/
I don't know anything about it, but it's probably inferior to the Famicom/NES version.
Look like Nintendo didn’t purchased right to Dragon Quest and SMT series.
Doujin port
That the case
Nintendo’s co-teammates
The main thing the X68000 had going for it were arcade accurate ports of arcade games. Also Cho Ren Sha 68k.
You'll learn more surfing Japanese twitter than you will anything you read here. With deepl and twitter auto-translate you have all the tools you need.
Star Wars: Attack on the Death Star is another great title, with shockingly good digitized voice clips from the movie.
The thing ran at 55hz so if you don't know what that means and you're trying to emulate it, you're going to have games running at the wrong speed/jerky scrolling etc.
There's about half a dozen good games on it that are original, the rest are arcade ports and homebrew rubbish.
I wish they would manufacture new tower cases that could take modern components.
If you want real hardware it's horribly expensive. Via emulation I've found that I enjoy FM Towns ports more.
That being said it's a great machine full of fantastic games, and some games natively support SNES and MD controllers, if you have the adapters for them (or are just emulating)
X68000 music is on another level. Having a dedicated drum kit to add on FM synthesized music, especially on real hardware, sounds absolutely incredible.
>Having a dedicated drum kit to add on FM synthesized music, especially on real hardware, sounds absolutely incredible.
Kinda wish GBA slightly use ym3438 and N64 with latest FM synth arcade technology.
yamaha's chips weren't cheap enough. nintendo are notorious for using the most cost effective methods possible.
>yamaha's chips weren't cheap enough
It is that really?
Low cost method is some bullshit I ever heard.
>weren’t cheap enough
For example, SNES using 68k cpu result 200 dollar price tag. Another one was GameCube mini disc cost than PS2/Xbox offers.
>playing castlevania with mt32 music
what a great machine
For me, arranger and CM64
Sovl system
Its by far the best japanese computer for gaming, plenty of arcade ports or multiplats that even improved the original experience. And the main reason why the platform is still remembered is the music, the music is out of this world
Zuiki
Wtf i thought the mini thing was just a joke
Gonna buy it soon.
LETS GO!!!
Been confirmed. Amiga homosexual lost.
God I want this thing so bad. I hope it comes with Genocide 2, that game is so cool.
Also new port like western point and click adventure, CPS1.5, Konami arcade and original games.
its a pretty cool game, but I'd say it takes a bit too much influence from Mad Stalker, esp the 3rd stage (iirc) looks so much like stage 1 of Mad Stalker
really, that companies best game was mr mosquito, hahahaha
>its a pretty cool game, but I'd say it takes a bit too much influence from Mad Stalker
It's the other way around actually lol.
Genocide 2: 1991
Mad Stalker: 1994
how crazy, i never realized!
What chip does this run on?
so far, all that has been shown is just teases, but actually X68000 emulation is not that hard, im sure a CPU of the level of the NESmini would be enough for any game on the system.
now granted if they were to integrate a way to choose music type (FM, XG, GS, GMIDI), that might require a bit more juice, probably something on the level of the PSCMini.
Man, its kind of a bummer everything these days is the same ARM produced by a handful chinese fabs
but, you don't read Japanese, Anon-kun...
There are very effective ways to use machine translation to play the games now.
How does this play on the mister? Heard someone say not so good elsewhere here
BTW, here's a great vid for you if you're interested in seeing the delicious insides of the X68000.
been meaning to sell my x68000 set for a while now but locals are more into amiga
ill probably do $300 if anyone is interested [s]pasokon#8971[/s]
So what about public domain?
I hate how badly I want to impulsively spend $300 on this, but then I would also have to collect games.
I'm not gonna buy this, but how hard is it to play backups of games on one of these things?
>but then I would also have to collect games
Can't you just stick all of the pirated games on a hard drive?
Oh, duh. It's a computer.
Only poorgays ask such silly questions.
It's more of a question of convenience, it's an obscure 80s PC exclusive to Japan and only way to get games "legit" is auctions through a proxy, with 1 month wait to get them delivered.
This sucks whether you can afford it or not.
You sound poor in mind and spirit.
Pathetic
Play 100 hours of X68k games on an emulator and if you still think it's worth $300 then buy it.
That's precisely why I won't buy it; I know I won't use it enough. I've just always thought it was a very handsome computer.
that damn thing is so fricking beautiful
Gay
I'll buy it. You stateside or EU/UK?
Did any x68000 games have netplay?
pls respond
What's the best PC emulator for it and can I setup it to output at original resolutions and refresh rates to my CRT?
I have a mister but X68000 core on it is currently fricked, can do original refresh but resolution is wrong, sound is shit and half the games don't work
xm6 pro-68k so far played every game I threw at it
and it runs on literal toasters
The handle.
X68000 Mini confirmed
biggest scam
Based
Cringe
>Z
New CPS2-style Hyper DBZ port?
hopefully we get info about it tomorrow or later today.
also...
>Releases in October 8th.
better that info be REALLY good, cuz regularly a mini console takes 9 months to a full year from announcement to release, all the miniconsoles have been like that.
Same month when Bayonetta 3 debut.
Oh yeah…
The TGS is open now, but actually there wasnt anything related to the Z except a proto model for display. no trailer, no gamelist, no features, no nothing.
and just discovered the October 8 date is not the release date, but the preorders opening. so Bayonetta is not gonna mog it.
I really wish companies would put in a bit of effort and make some clone chip asics or something. I really dont see the point of these things when you could just grab a raspi and a case
Of all the big name Japanese meme computers (PC-98, MSX, X68000) X68000 is probably the one least worth getting. Extremely high price (I could buy multiple 98s and MSXs for the price of one), and while it has a lot of great games, most of them are arcade games you can already play a million different ways now. Granted, they are amazing ports, but are they worth spending at minimum 1500 (closer to and above 2k if you buy on ebay)? If you want to get into older Japanese computers, I'd suggest the MSX primarily for being the cheapest (~200-300$), with a great library, plenty of games you don't need to know Japanese for, and being the easiest to get up and running (comparatively). If you can speak JP and are willing to deal with something more complex than I'd suggest an early PC9821, but that'd require its own discussion.
>minimum $1500
>$300
whats going on here
I refuse to believe that dude is actually selling for 300. Go on eBay and Yahoo auctions and look at real prices for these things. Once you figure in a keyboard, mouse, and a compatible monitor/upscaler 1500 is a bargain.
schizo
?
Anyone out there trying to run X68000 stuff on Retroarch: for the past few years, this core (PK68) has been broken and will not work. If you download a nightly build, however, it works fine. If you're launching your games and you get a blank screen and then nothing, this is the bug fixed by using a nightly build of PK68.
The keyboard
>25 year-old monitor has better contrast than my modern IPS panel.
Why do we evolve backwards?
If you're talking about the LCD in the picture it most certainly doesn't have better contrast than anything.
Better than my IPS LG 850b.
How could you tell? You're looking at a photo of it through your IPS monitor.
The difference between the black bezels and the black area.
Compared to the NEC machines, It's a little easier to get into if you're an EOP and has pretty good arcade ports for it's time. It's also built for smooth scrolling from the get-go which is also a big plus for action games.
It also has a few good originals like pic related
Any recommended doujin soft? Preferably with some nice graphics.
Sailor Moon or abandon Metroid remake.
>abandon Metroid remake
can't find any info on this one
It forgotten fan project
Where are all the favorite game posts?! I need my lists of games to play.
Any way to switch sound processor for the retroarch core? Too lazy to set up the standalone emulator and ht looks like the xf keys are not supported In RA
All i want is a translation of the X68000 Port of Mechwarrior 1, it is the best port of all 3 and endorsed by tatsunoko and studio nue.
